I tried to use construction lumber to make some trippy modern home décor artwork to hang on my wall. To make this woodworking project cheap, I used 2x6 construction lumber. I think 2x4s would have looked even better because it would have given more visual interest. Scrap wood would have been an amazing choice too. But ultimately, while using the construction lumber things went terribly wrong. It was a mistake that could have ruined my entire woodworking project. It was most definitely a huge setback for me and I don’t think it would have been an issue if I was using hardwoods like walnut or oak. There is something about the softness of construction lumber that made this mistake a big obstacle for me.
Once I got the woodworking project back on the right track, I decided to use water based wood stains in a family of colors that I really like. Dye or bright paint would have looked really good too! If you want to test your woodworking skills or simply want some cool wood art for your home, give this project a shot. Just make sure you learned from my mistakes to save yourself some time and money.

Lol this is incredible. Can’t believe this is free on CZcams. You are brilliant sir!
This is definitely something I'm for try at some point
Nice work!
You could use magnets instead of glue for even more customisability.
"Brilliant" project. Looks great! JimE
Awesome!
Im into this and going to try this weekend. Thank you
That is very cool looking. I'm not sure I'd have the patience to cut all those triangles though!
This turned out way cooler than I expected. Very nice!
Pretty neat idea, Billy! And it turned out fantastic! Nicely done!!! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
BTW, I'm about to turn 45 in less than a month, so... Yeah, I feel your pain. 😬
Looks awesome. Thanks
GREAT project and the "how to find a solution to a shop hurdle"! !! !!!
Yeah, very cool.

😂
Really enjoy your channel. Nice work.
Wow! I love it! Gonna watch it again , I see $ signs ...big $'S!!
Very neat project!
I wonder what kind of geometric art you could make with the cutoffs, as they look to be all similar 🤔
Really neat, Billy. I'm waiting to see what you make with those cutoffs. 40 is nothing - wait until you hit 74.
Bill
My first thought when I saw the design, was to cut it out from a panel, using a track saw.
Since I don't own one, I'm not likely to try that myslef 🙂
Wait, I thought having the center of the tree in a wood, it was less likely to warp? As whatever it swelled or anything would be even in all directions?
I thought the ones with circle all in one direction like the one second from the bottom at 0:41 would cup in that direction?
Have I really been doing the exact backwards way this whole time? 🤔😬
The further out from the pith the better. Quartersawn is the most stable. Rift sawn a close second. Then there's flat sawn which has those rings with the smiley or frowning face. They can cup, like you said. So imagine those next to each other and pushing in opposite directions. Too much movement.
