- Terrifying dashcam vision of a crash, which left a semi-truck precariously dangling from the edge of a Louisville bridge has been released.
On March 1, the 26-year-old driver, Sydney Thomas, was airlifted to safety after nearly plunging into the Ohio River when attempting to avoid a vehicle swerving into her lane.
The footage was shown in a U.S court this week. The driver of the swerving car, 33-year-old Jeffersonville man Trevor Branham, has been charged with wanton endangerment and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended licence.

The pickup driver , Trevor Branham, was speeding and weaving through traffic on the bridge. He swerved to avoid an electric vehicle that had stalled but struck the rear of the vehicle. He was charged with four counts of wanton endangerment and driving on a suspended license. Sydney Thomas, age 26, a military veteran, and mother of a five-year old son was driving the semi for Sysco. She is the daughter of a semi-truck driver. She gave her first interview earlier this month and stated the semi's steering was lost upon impact with the pickup. The Clark Memorial Bridge spans the Ohio River connecting Jeffersonville, IN to Louisville. NOTE: information regarding Clark Memorial Bridge. A four lane bridge with no emergency lanes. An average of 24K vehicles cross the bridge daily. Eighty-three accidents occurred on the bridge in 2023.

I've crossed that bridge hundreds of times and that is exactly why it gives me the creeps! There's not much keeping you up there!
The bridge itself is very well made. Which is part of the reason she didn't go completely over. That and the cab didn't separate from the trailer. The biggest problem with this bridge is that the lanes are too narrow and no one ever goes the speed limit.
Nothing made me feel more relieved to see that she was rescued and safe!

At first I thought, "no! why are you turning off the bridge!"

Those fifth wheel pins are strong as anything. There's a reason they're called "kingpins". They are the strongest part of any trailer, designed to withstand forces of at least 150,000 pounds per square inch. That's about the weight of two bulldozers.
She turned clockwise, the correct direction, the truck didn't respond because of physics (it's called understeer in car lingo). Why are there THREE vehicles stopped on that bridge??
I have a strong feeling that the steering linkage broke up in the collision which caused no steering response and the collision was in a way where the left front wheel would be yanked forcefully into an unaligned position which lead to the trucker going off the bridge.
That's mean the brake also malfunction?

I'm sorry, for those of you who seem to think that the driver who pulled into oncoming traffic wasn't the cause of the crash, and wasn't in the wrong, here's a little fact about road safety laws. On a bridge it is illegal to pass over into oncoming traffic, this is shown by the solid yellow lines separating the different directions of traffic. That line is not to be crossed over at any point, under penalty of law.

It appears the car came into her lane and broke the steer tire leaving her with no steering or control.

She was NOT the cause of this crash! If you watch carefully at the beginning, there was a stopped vehicle on the other side of the bridge facing in the other direction and another car swerved right into her to avoid hitting the stopped car. The person that stopped that car caused the whole thing.

Why are there cars parked on a bridge
Looks like the first domino here is actually a car stopped in the leftmost lane. Pickup swerves to avoid it but goes into oncoming lane in the process, hitting and damaging the steering of the semi.
For all the people who can't tell their right from their left, the driver was trying to avoid going over the bridge by turning towards the passenger side of the truck, which is on the right.

For anyone who thinks she is in the wrong or could've just turned, here:
She was on her lane (yellow line separated lanes in case there's someone young or uninformed here) so she wasn't in the wrong. Idk about the country she is in but over in my country, drivers cut lanes a lot to go ahead of slow drivers, though they 99% of the time check before going out into opposite lanes. The one in this video appeared to have not done that.
2. It seems like she lost control of the truck. She was turning right but it kept going left, so don't act like those idiots in the comment section and argue with people. Think before you act (or you'll be dumb like me 😭)

It's always not obvious to identify from far that a car in front is not moving. It's only when you get closer that you realized it doesn't move. In this case, driver seemed to be coming faster. And just reacted when it was already too late. 2 Lessons here. (1) Don't speed, (2) When you car break on a highway or bridge Put Hazard light on, make it obvious for car coming behind
It seems that the pickup truck turned to the right lane to try and beat the trucker (to pass them), but they didn't see the parked vehicle in the left lane; so then swerved over to the right, ultimately hitting the lady in the video.
Evidence: The other two parked cars behind the pickup truck in the right lane.

This lawsuit is gonna be crazy. Who do you think will be liable for the damages? The parked cars with seemingly no hazard lights on? Or the pickup truck driver?
Nevertheless, everyone involved in the accident has learned a very valuable lesson. For the driver, it will probably haunt her as she will never cross that bridge ever again.

Umm, anyone saying she is at fault is brain dead and you should have YOUR license revoked. The pickup crossed into her lane and caused the entire crash. If you're driving a tractor trailer with a load in the back, you need to compensate for that weight. It's physics. Thank goodness the trailer got caught on the pillar, that saved her from ending up on the water. Something you can't survive in a vehicle.
I live in Kentucky and cross this bridge constantly. I can promise you that it is extremely easy to get on a wreck on this bridge. That woman is incredibly lucky that she survived this accident and that 26-year-old driver that almost killed her got insanely lucky That she didn’t go over the bridge. It’s unreal how quickly things can go bad and on this particular bridge it doesn’t take much. Almost last weekend Someone caused a wreck with us going across it. In my opinion, it’s too small for four lanes.

I instantly stopped myself and then just sat there for a while contemplating how before I left the gym I had taken a few minutes to untangle my headphones. I agree you said what you said.
