  • I don’t have a lathe but was still able to make a round or cylinder candle holder for my outdoor patio. Outdoor candles look pretty crappy. To dress up the candles in my outdoor space, I made wooden candle holders from white oak. Here’s how to I make round woodworking projects without turning them on a lathe. It requires a few other woodworking tools but it is completely doable! I used a router to make circular wooden pieces. I then glued those parts together to make a circular candle holder. A billion people will think you should use a drill hole saw for this woodworking project. If you have a very, very large one you can drill out the center hole, but that's the easiest part. A hole saw doesn't give you a round object. Regardless, there are always more than one way to make something.
    My outdoor candle holder has a removable lid and an extra compartment underneath for a box of matches. Now’s the time to get in the workshop and make those special woodworking projects for your outdoor patio area. Don’t let not having a lathe hold back your woodworking journey.

    A lot of people will probably say I should have used a hole saw instead of a router. It would take one heck of a large hole saw to drill out the center. But a hole saw doesn't make the outside of the candle holder round. Regardless, remember there's usually more than one way to do something and make sure to have some fun along the way!

      I was a bit surprised that you didn't actually get rid of a lot of the inside with the use of fostner bits, and the bandsaw for most of the outside materials before putting the router to good use. Oh, as for the mind blank moment, I hate to say this, but buddy, it isn't going to get much better or easier over time. Unfortunately, it's a little thing that's known as AGE. The damn thing eventually gets us all at some point or other 😢!!! I just can't wait until I can forget the names of my children🫣😳, at least this way I can tell the wife that I don't know who these people are that are alway's wanting help or should I say handouts with money 😂😆🤪

      I personally was surprised you didn't head to the bandsaw to cut out the center like you would for a bandsaw box. I feel like that would have been much more efficient, but like you said there's more than one way to accomplish any task. Love the channel and your videos! Keep up the great work.

    Other youtubers: "I'm going to get my Festool tool out to cut a piece off this slab."
    Newton: "Nah, I got this plug in bosch jigsaw."
    Love it!

    Please do more non leathe items. Like bowls,platters etc. How to create suction fit lids like what's done on leathes. Just without the leathe

      Yes. Those of us who aren't ready to take on a whole other learning curve and expense in woodworking would love more items we can do without the lathe.

    Nicely done. Could've saved the router bit and all that dizzying rotation and just made the entire project using the band saw and sander only. You know, like a band saw box...cup...candle holder.

    Beautiful work, Billy! It turned out amazing! 😃
    But I guess you need a set of hole saws. It would've made things much easier!
    Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

      I knew that people would mention using a hole saw. It's a solid choice for the inside circle, but it doesn't make the exterior round. That would take something else. Gotta roll with what you got!

    I'm just a newly retired old fart trying to learn woodworking before it's too late so I watch a bunch of videos trying to learn something, anything. I especially like watching yours but need to see all of the steps even if it's just a glance. Did you joint that wood before it was run through the planer???

      Yes, I did. I typically show that but cut it out this time.

    Couldn't you have used a hole saw and drill press to get the same results

    • @TadTheTinker
      @TadTheTinker Před 11 měsíci

      Yes he could have. But that would have been WAY to easy. His ability to find the most difficult way to perform the simplest of tasks makes me wonder if he gets his ideas for doing this from a female. It is truly amazing how hard he works at dome of these.

  • @TadTheTinker
    @TadTheTinker Před 11 měsíci

    Could have used a small chunk of log to do the same thing. Slice off an inch from the bottom to make the match slot then reglue it to the bottom. Cut a slice off the top for a lid. Us a hole saw or forstner bit to drill out the center. Multiple bore holes may be needed with clean up with a small chisel and spindle sander.

    Why not some hole saws
