10 Ways to Make Miter Joints!

- I love that in woodworking there is always more than one way to do something. I examined ten different ways to make a miter joint. This is a joint you’d use for picture frame. Some of these techniques could apply to making a wood box, but I think that type of joinery should be its own video.
I made all of my miter cuts using the table saw and a miter gauge. Any additional work was done on the table saw or router table. Here’s the list of the miter joints I made:

You're definitely one of the best (influencer for lack of a better word) you make things clear without things getting convoluted
Other than having woodworking as a hobby I've been a interior trim carpenter over 30 years I really like and I've never seen before shooting 23g threw the blue tape the filling the nail holes
I'm not sure how I've never thought of that 200iq stuff there
I died at the mini river table! 🤣🤣🤣☠️☠️☠️
Loved that mini river table! You make some of the complex mitre joints look so easy. It would be great if you could cover the very basics such as how to consider saw kerf and how to account for it when cutting a mitre joint. For example, using 3/4 material, if I want the inside dimensions of a box (cube shape) to be 12" x 12" x 12", what should be accounted for when setting the cut based on the kerf of the blade. I will have to try some of these complex mitres! Great video!
I watched nearly 2 dozen videos searching for how to join miter cuts for building frames and you are the only pro who showed how to do inside joints without having to build complex jigs or buy pricey machines that don't really do the 56 degree angle joints. Seriously, thanks for making the video, I learned a lot and will try both methods on my next frames.
I love how you use exotic wood for a throw away example.
And then you break the remaining and make a joke that kills. And with wood glue! 😂 🤣
And on top of being entertaining, very informative. Learned a few new ways of making miters! (Now I just have to actually remember to try and use them next time I make some... Always the challenge)
I wasn't planning on breaking it. I sort of got carried away haha!
@@NewtonMakes haha, that will happen sometimes. You were quick to make into an amazing joke out of it!
Necessity is the mother of invention. I taught myself #9, with an added dowel, when my mitred window frames were failing.
And oh yeah, all I had was a hand saw and a miter box and a drill.
The river table comment literally made me laugh out loud! Consider me subscribed! 😂
I like the many different ways to do this. The mini river table was awesome 👌
Making lemonade out of lemons!
@@NewtonMakes I was in bits at the mini river half expected u make wee set legs out it aswell. 🤣👍🏴
Would love to a video testing the strength of all these joints.
Awesome idea. Leave that one for me and I'll see what I can do.
@@NewtonMakes I'll second that. Results could be interesting!
"Mini river table" :D Great video, as usual!
I don't know why that popped in my head! haha!
Thank you,
it really helps.
Me encantó, muy útil
Wow - You are Fantastic - Thanks for sharing Brother!
Awesome instructional video! These are definitely my favorite! Out of all the joints, #10 is the best! I have never seen something like that and love it!
Hopefully other people stayed until the end. That one is an incredibly strong joint.
OMG. Absolutely love the mini river table. I will buy it for $10,000. Lol. I had to pause the video cause I was laughing so hard. Thank you
Almost spit out my drink when you did the mini river table
Really like the lap miter joint and enjoyed the video!
That one was fun to make. It is incredibly strong when glued together, and it's not difficult to make.
Hahahaha mini river table! Brilliant!
Really great ideas.
Glad you like them!
Perfect
The half lap miter joint looks very unique and strong ( if properly glued ) 👍
It's a great joint option. A ton of glue surface.
If I only was able to cut those damn pieces accurately at 45 degrees with the damn miter saw…
Really great tips, Newton! Thanks! 😃
I need to try the last one!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
It looks complicated but as I started cutting it turned out to be really easy.
Those are nice man, great video of different methods for miters witch can be a tricky joint sometimes
I ended up having fun thinking about different ways to do this. There are so many more to do.
@4:15 The river table remark left me in stiches😂
Nice river table, man.
Only the finest things for me!
Great video. Not sure how I haven't come across your channel before, but happy to subscribe!
Mini river table... 🤣 That’s awesome. Great video with joint strengtheners I didn’t know about. One of the best ideas was the wax paper on your bench top.
Yeah I learned a while ago that dried glue on my bench is a pain!
@@NewtonMakes Glue still sticks to wax paper. Any better options?
@@troywalker8078 Parchment paper! I buy it in 1000 sheet flats from a paper supply house. The type that has boxes and bags. They are 18x24”. Also great for laying across bar clamps.
Great video, Billy. It looks like that hidden spline is a version of the domino joint. Take care.
Bill
What is a spline really but a thin domino? Or perhaps, what is a domino but a fat spline? Haha!
@@NewtonMakes Don't forget to throw tenon into that discussion. Lol
Hi, great video. Is it possible to do external spline, example 6, with router table? Thanks
"mini river table" Lmao!!
How do you make sure the saw blade is at the right height for #9 and #10?
Love this! What dowel jig did you use?
I just dropped the link in the video description. Mine is discontinued but I found this one that looks identical.
Thanks for sharing. Is there going to be a separate video showing the "finished mini river table"?
That might be an exclusive video only Patreon members - How to Build a Tiny River Table
Where did you get that dowel jig
How much to commission you for my very own mini river table? They are so unique I simply must have one!
Do splines add much more strength?
It gives you two more large gluing surfaces. Wood glue is actually stronger than wood when it cures. 😊
So yes… we like them
Yep, a lot more!
Iam in Uganda how can we work together
