@@critterallywithjohnernest. It's so funny watching the fawns try to get to the food while they are still a bit clumsy. I did put a little food on the ground hoping it would find it, but I think it wanted to have what Mom was munching on. I'd love to know what it was thinking as it approached me. I hope you and your mother are doing as well as possible, we're just trying to stay cool. I have been dealing with worsening lightheadedness, seemingly caused by issues in my neck. I actually fainted and fell twice before I learned to be more careful. Hopefully the doctors will figure it out soon.

@@wildlifeathome Thanks Derek, we are doing okay here. Mom is really getting bad with her memory but still doing okay. I'm so sorry to hear that you are having more difficulties with your neck and back. Kind of like a pinched nerve?? It really sucks when Doctors can't figure out and help with the problems at hand. I sure hope they can get it right for you. That must be horrible to faint and fall. I just had a guy i worked with that died recently as he passed out while going down a stairs and broke his neck. @@myfloridaourplanet.444 If the doe are who I think they are, the first one the fawn was with is Tricky with no fawn of her own. Goldie was the one chasing the little guy, probably because she has her own fawn to care for. And.then the doe who was the last to arrive had to be its mother. It's fascinating to see them interact like that, but what was really a wonderful surprise was finding the little fawn resting alone behind the greenhouse! The mother was nearby, but far enough away that they couldn't see each other. While I was chatting with the little one, I took a step too close and it stood up so I squatted down and kept chatting. After a moment, the fawn lay back down and has been there most of the day. I even rode our mower around knocking the tops of the dandelions down and went in and out of the greenhouse. The last I saw was both the fawn and mother back behind the greenhouse in the tall grass and shade. It still amazes me that I've managed to earn their trust to such a point that they hang around even when I'm not constantly putting something out for them to eat. Like your gator friend, which I imagine would be a very cool story to hear about how that came to be. I'd love to hear the story, maybe on Instagram if you wish to share it.

I truly enjoyed your account about the fawn behind the greenhouse ! What a memorable encounter. Derek, I'm not at all surprised about the trust the Deer have placed in you. You are part of their herd. You are their family. Everything about you gives them the sense of trust around you. I've always believed animals are good judges of human character. The actions of the Does and the Fawns herald their belief in this particular human. They reward you greatly by all the moments like the one by the greenhouse. I don't just watch your videos, I analyze them. And my heart leaps with joy seeing the peace & serenity between "man & beast". Yes, I have several alligators that have given me their trust. The big female shares her brood with me every year. I call them and they come or if they see me first, here they come like a submarine, stopping just short of where I'm standing, intently and quietly looking at me with nothing but curiosity & do I dare say friendship ? Yes...reptilian friendship. Hence, because of experiencing firsthand the bond a human can have with a wild animal, your videos, your encounters, really strike home. Pretty darn deep. Am looking forward to watching your journey for a long, long time.....

@@myfloridaourplanet.444 I think what touches me the most is that these animals have never been habituated by other humans. It was like a journey, one I will tell you about on Instagram as it is mostly stills with the story of Nicky. It will be a little while as I'm digging through years of photos. It will also give me a chance to learn how to use Instagram. Completely off topic, but you may find this amusing. One of the first trips to the Zoo we have in Portland when I was around 10 years old left me with what is still one of my fondest, yet shortest, experiences. I remember walking next to mom and dad as we went by the giraffe enclosure, one of them decided to say hello by bumping my head with one of its ossicones. It was a light tap, but very surprising as I didn't see it coming. I felt as though the animal was expressing some type of friendship even then, and now I know how hard they can hit if they want through the many documentaries I have watched. Or maybe I just have a hard head.😁

I even rode around on our lawnmower and went in and out of the greenhouse only to be surprised to see it with its mother returning to their spot in the tall grass by the greenhouse.😄It will be nice seeing them more often, I still get the doe and fawns confused except when Goldie joins me at the stump.

@@critterallywithjohnernest. That's how I feel looking through my photos and videos, knowing how many deer I've seen through the years grow up and move on. One really cool thing that I saw today after this video was the little fawn laying by itself behind the greenhouse. It stood up when I went one step too close, then laid back down while I talked to it. The last I saw after riding the mower and going in and out of the greenhouse was both the fawn and mother resting back behind the greenhouse. It's always great when I realize the little fawns are no longer staying under the trees.

I will definitely give this a try and let you know how it helps. I know plants from the mint family make great insect repellent, I grow catnip for our cats and we haven't had fleas for years. Our veterinarian was surprised when I told him it must be the catnip keeping the fleas away. Thank you for the tip! Cheers!

It seems that my memory takes its own vacations whenever it wishes. It must be miserable in this 100° heat alone, the flies are almost too much. There isn't much she can do about the dozen or so perched on her nose, maybe someday she'll let me shoo them away!🤔 I wonder if Tricky skinned her nose trying to itch it and that's why it seems to have no hair. I hope it's cooler over there and everyone is doing well, I've already had enough of this heat.🥵🌞

@@goldiethompson6569 I think the flies are what's keeping the fawns under the trees where it's cooler. I feel sorry for the poor deer, it's another 100f day with those pests. Mom said she saw the doe with the twins early this morning, but I haven't seen them for awhile. Goldie has been laying around the house just like her mother used to, hopefully her fawn will join her once it cools down. Have a great evening!😊

@@goldiethompson6569 I keep telling myself to get some video of my cats, Socks and Pepper. Pepper is the one who looks like kitty, his brother is long haired and not the brightest boy, Pepper is one of the smartest cats I've ever had. They like to investigate the cabinet under my bathroom sink, Pepper will open it with one try every time, Socks hasn't quite figured it out. Even though he knows that it swings sideways, he keeps swiping down or the wrong way usually getting frustrated and leaving.

Thank you. When we moved here in 1982, it was just an overgrown logging road. We lived without power and water for a year, luckily we had a wood stove and plenty of firewood! 😁

It could be a year before I'll know what sexes they are, hopefully they come around enough to get comfortable here and give me a chance to learn any differences between the two. Goldie doe and this doe have been laying around here avoiding the heat and insects, but no fawns, they're probably under the trees still where it's cool. It would be great to see all the fawns together playing in the yard, something I really haven't ever seen yet.

I'm not much of a people person, I have more animal friends than human and one of those friends just moved to Texas just in time for the hurricane that is on its way. One thing about him living in Texas is I'll have a place about halfway across the continent to stay if I should ever be fortunate enough to travel around.

​@@EllenmendenhallI feel sorry for the poor deer. When I'm closer than about two feet the flies start in on me, but only a few nothing like the swarm on and around Goldie. I can't imagine not having hands to brush the annoying little blood suckers away.

@@soarornor I haven't seen the twins since, their mother is here, laying wherever the flies are the fewest, so I'm sure the fawns are close. Goldie found a place to lay between the house and cars, practically invisible until she stands up and startles the pee out of me! They sure find some of the oddest places to rest in the attempt to escape the heat and insects.

@@wildlifeathome Today I discovered that just about everyone is making the area under my deck their private lair to get away from the sun and flies. Even the little Bambino is hanging out in there. It’s like their clubhouse. It’s an excellent getaway for them as it’s all bushes around the outside perimeter. It’s like the bat cave for them. It’s pretty amusing. Everyone is running fast these days like they have to get back to somewhere in a hurry. Discovered another fawn today but just for seconds. Don’t even know whose it is yet. Everyone is being so damn secret! 🌿🦌
