- The heat really brings out the biting deer flies. While they can transmit disease, it's very rare and for me the opportunity to get closer to these wild animals outweighs any risk from these flies.(mosquitos are still much more of a threat)
It would be useful to include a pic of a deer fly for any viewer not familiar with them.
I've found that deer flies, once trapped in a car on a sunny day, quickly die of the heat. I first discovered this while driving on a dirt road to a river fishing spot. While driving slowly with windows down, the outside air temp being not too hot at only about 26C, in a surprisingly short time the little buggers were, yep, dropping like flies up against the front and rear windows, where the material beneath was heated by the Sun shining from on high.
@@glennledrew8347 I meant to find a photo, but forgot, again, until about 10 seconds after it uploaded. My memory and I have some issues.😂 Next time one of the deer show up with their pesky little companions I'll have the camera ready and hope one pauses for a second. Oh those pesky little flies. Those big, beautiful Deer Ears sure were working as fly swatters as best they could. Appreciated your written information about the insects Derek. I never knew they had spots on the compound eyes, so that was cool . I totally get what you mean about being close to your animal family despite the flies. Talk about dedication ! @@myfloridaourplanet.444 All the danger is worth it when people enjoy the videos!🤣😂 I really should have tried to get a decent photo of one to add, I meant to but forgot. It seems that my memory takes its own vacations whenever it wishes. It must be miserable in this 100° heat alone, the flies are almost too much. There isn't much she can do about the dozen or so perched on her nose, maybe someday she'll let me shoo them away!🤔 I wonder if Tricky skinned her nose trying to itch it and that's why it seems to have no hair. I hope it's cooler over there and everyone is doing well, I've already had enough of this heat.🥵🌞

I think I need to wake up earlier if I want to see the fawns, mom saw the doe with her twins this morning so they must be doing ok with this heat. Us Oregonians don't do well if it's over 90°!🤣🤗❤

@@goldiethompson6569 I think the flies are what's keeping the fawns under the trees where it's cooler. I feel sorry for the poor deer, it's another 100f day with those pests. Mom said she saw the doe with the twins early this morning, but I haven't seen them for awhile. Goldie has been laying around the house just like her mother used to, hopefully her fawn will join her once it cools down. Have a great evening!😊
@wildlifeathome I feel bad for them in the heat. It's been so humid here. Saw a squirrel 2 days ago , finally. I miss them. Not too many birds around either. Saw kitty, she lays in the shade. I hope your cat is doing good, and you and your parents. Have a cool day 😎
@@goldiethompson6569 I keep telling myself to get some video of my cats, Socks and Pepper. Pepper is the one who looks like kitty, his brother is long haired and not the brightest boy, Pepper is one of the smartest cats I've ever had. They like to investigate the cabinet under my bathroom sink, Pepper will open it with one try every time, Socks hasn't quite figured it out. Even though he knows that it swings sideways, he keeps swiping down or the wrong way usually getting frustrated and leaving.

@@paulag4536 They sure spoil the enjoyment of being very close, three or more feet and they don't seem to see me, any closer and I become a snack!😠😂🤣
