Would love to see how you build that box.
Looking good! Fitting that washingtonia robusta in a box for overwintering will be quite a mission this winter i think 😅
@@pawelelektryk2985 ya for sure
its picking up Jimmy ;) i got it scorched too here in Saskatchewan . My winter inside i get two fronds a month. No dormancy. Heat and light and gallons through it almost daily. Key to indoor palm care.
I bought 4 Mexican Fan Palms yesterday because of your recommendation! Thank you!
Everything looks great James
This Trachy by the pool has gone crazy. It looks great!
Looks good. So box up your windmills as well every year??
Great job James👍 what age do you plant palm trees in the garden?
@@biriki34 five years old roughly but it depends on the size
Looks good James palm!
are thin shreds at the end of the fronds normal? Thanks for sharing
@@ix_conscious_xi yes perfectly normal for Mexican fan Palm
@@TheJames2929 ok, cool. I have two majesty palms which have the same thing when put them outside.
All my seedlings died 😢 but I’m going to universal studios Orlando and key west Florida so I’m getting super many seeds
@@Lucapalms nice 👍 have a great time
@@TheJames2929 thx!
There is a thing that you can purchase to put on your pool that is specifically for animals that can't get out. I don't know what it's called, but I'm pretty sure that they are easily searchable and not expensive. And I just purchased 3 Gaussia Gomez Pompae yesterday and I'm psyched!
@@woowooone awesome thanks buddy
5:23 same
Looks great! You inspired me to plant a windmill palm here at almost 60N, USDA zone 7a in northern europe! Survived the winter barely when the power went out at a record 2f/-17c and the protection failed, did push out new growth now!
Hey James, as the Mexican fan Palms get older and rooted do they still need boxing up in the winter?
@@jasoncrawl2692 depending on where you’re located I’m pretty sure they are always going to need it
I’m Georgia were you was passing through last year in the hotel in north Georgia
What mix of soil do you usually use for your palms? I have several potted up, and they've been growing slowly (medjool date palms, W. Robusta). But I wonder if I don't have the right mix as I've just been using potting soil and don't have any sand, etc... I saw one of your other videos where you added sand to the mix. What type of sand do you use? Is it just playground sand or coarse/builders sand?
I bought some medjool days from Walmart and germinated about 20 of them. 8 of them grew roots, and i just out them all in their own red cups right after that. It's been a few weeks, and 3 of them are poking up through the dirt now. Seem slower growing than yours, but I'm a beginner so maybe i did something different. I'm in Northern Utah, so a bit hotter and drier than Ontario i think (zone 6b-7a) . I have some W. Robustas growing, too. Slow going, but exciting. Thanks for the videos! They've helped a lot.
Sorry if you've answered this question before ... but how do your palms survive the winter in darkness? Because I just got 3 Spindle Palms, which I'm planning to "winterize", but I'm worried how they'll survive 5 months of very low light or darkness.
That sucks I’ve never seen a palmetto come back from spear pull 😢
I have sabel minor palms here in Virginia and one of my neighbors has two of them and i keep finding seedling up to a mile away from the tree
Nice
Wow! Palmetto’s are really good, or really bad. No in between, found that out the hard way. Here they grow natural in the southeast. And they are relatively cheap for size. I got one for free. Dug it up, and I planted it in a decent spot, but it was a place that gets stronger winds than most yards and place. And we had intense heat and rain and then had the spear pull and since it was so large it didn’t recover. Tried trunk cutting it. Looked green, but nothing
Yeah there’s billions of them up around by Tampa and Orlando not as often in Jacksonville or Miami though. Still very possible to grow though!
When will you transplant the little washy?
Not sure I haven’t decided yet
My one has 4 leaves already but no trunk, it is just green
What type of Washington palm is that one next to the kids playground and what will be it’s max height? And do they super fast
"Mexican Fan Palm" and "Super Cold Hardy" don't go together. Similar looking California Fan Palms are hardier. Windmill palms even more so.
Hey, cool video, thanks for that!👍🙂
Just beautiful imagen how old the sables in silver springs park FL are
Oh ya Like 70 years old easily
Hey James I’m in Arizona right now and it was 111 today, palms are much more resilient than people think.
I had the neighbors bring mine in every winter, mine was a tree loved it
Omg I love those I want to buy a start
Great job James!!!
looking good! have you ever thought about growing sabal minor palms or european fan palm?
My guy, I'm from the North of the UK and have tried growing washingtonia in the past, to which all have succumbed to the freezing cold. The jealousy I have for you is immense. The only success I've had is Trachycarpus Fortunei and Wagnerianus, which are quite slow growing but most certainly hardy. Nothing beats the washies tho!
you should buy a bismark palm
Are they those huge things?
My washingtonia is taking its time but its growing..You have inspired me to document my landscping learning journey on CZcams...Great stuff!

Looks like time for best collection of seeds is august to september or october. I usually Visit Destin. Enjoyed the video, thankyou.
No problem glad you enjoyed
love this video I have a washington his outside in big tub here in uk
The height is measured only on the trunk, therefore excluding the leaves.
Great videos. I have always loved palm trees, I used to live in south Florida and had some nice specimen palms, but now I am growing them from seed here in central Indiana. Got a question for you - you seem to be able to visit a lot of these tropical areas, so I'm wondering why you don't live where you can enjoy palm trees and the tropic life year round?
Hi James I have a palm tree seed a date palm seed
it worked tysm dude
Thanks it worked thanks a lot🙏🏼
Can’t find this product anywhere and they are sold out online. My 1 year Mexican fan palm is sterling to go pale in colour (except for the new leaves) and they are bending (again, except for new leaves). Even the sunniland company is out of stock. Do you have any suggestions on what to use until I can find some? Hope your day is good.
It’s kinda a myth that many palms are hard to grow indoors though as long as you have a sunny window and around 75F indoors, as well as decent humidity my coconut ,arenga engerli palms ,and thatch palms and more grow like weeds in my sunny office, that way you don’t have to worry about pests sun acclimation and other stuff if you always keep some indoors, even coconuts like mine can do great indoors only if you have a good spot though, here’s my channel if your interested czcams.com/video/sQCKmUqEiBo/video.htmlsi=CKlBTWykOej4oJWI
What is the name of the last palm that you showed?
phoenix reclinata
Yard is looking good! Always fun watching your vids... only thing is that you didn't open up a beer ... little disappointed 😂
i have a question about new fronds. i got a windmill palm a month ago and it began putting out new growth. this new frond has opened quite a bit but it hasn’t gotten any taller. it’s opening at the base. is that normal?
Large sabal had spear pull, recovery chance? Didn’t catch it too late but caught it late enough to the point where there was bugs. I pulled the spear and poured hydrogen peroxide then two days later copper fungicide and every so often hydrogen peroxide. I’ve had spear pull on this stubborn Pindo and it always came back. But it was small, how long to know on a large palm? And sabals are native here, just had transplant shock and strong winds over the winter months it looked like it had good growth till we got flooded with rain and winds
