I'm my new boxes I added fans that run 24/7. I think the big issue is the stagnant air in the crown. Even without the lights on my boxes will hit 30°C during the day with the sun on them.
Hey James, might be a stupid question, but assuming you can keep the trunk and top of the tree warm enough, don't the roots freeze and kill the trees? I'm more north near Montreal, and our ground freezes a little more than down in the GTA. Heat strips around the roots, maybe?
I think the runners above frostline do die off but as long as centre of root ball is healthy and mature it will send out new ones come spring. I suggest planting no smaller than 15 gallon palms. Also don’t brake up the root ball when planting you want roots to stay compact together and not spread out like crazy. Thats my observation though take it at face value.
Hey James, have you ever considered a heat source that doesnt produce light? Do you think think the palms benefit from the light or could survive complete darkness for the winter?
The lightbulbs just produce the heat they definitely don’t not benefit from the light. You can keep them in full darkness as long as they are at a cool temperature.
Hey james, another quick question. What's the footprint of your largest mexican fan palm box? 4x4? Do you think you'll need to make it wider in future?
Great tips!!😊❤
Hey James
another question. Which Oaklex are you wearing? Which model?

I think it does. Not 100% sure.

What are your thoughts between Robusta or Filifera in a dry zone 7 here in Northern Nevada. Without using any heat source or structure
For sure I would try a California fan palm.
@TheJames2929 My thoughts as well. Since they can handle dry cold climates
