Why would you put welding as an intro😂
Why not?
Somehow missed this post when it came out, so catching up now. I've not got one of those tools, but they look quite handy.
Will hopefully put it work soon.
Those wire rod thingys at the rear of the seat base. How do you dis-egage 'em and worse, how do you re-engage 'em? it is all soooo annoyingly not obvious or easy....
Mine don't sit correctly. I know how you feel as mine only pops in on one side. Yank the seat up as hard as you can.
I'm not familiar with those cars but there is obviously allot going on during the assembly of that car with lots of overlapping panels which makes repair difficult and even more so without new steel or a good donor car to cut steel from. That is a big project and without looking at it in person it's tough to come up with a plan of attack. Ideally you would replace parts from the inside out but it may come down to a do your best type repair to be as close as possible and maintain structure.
Yeah it is a bit complex but I think I can do it I just need to drill out tones of spot welds from the inside yes. Many of which have rotted away. Yes I will try to repair as best as possible.
Fully understandable , Unfortunately TeeCee is not a quick fix, but you will get there with your very sensible attitude
What a bummer . I can't belive you didn't cry. I would of 😢 x
You need to weld onto clean metal , i.e. shiny metal. when the metal is brown it is rusted and the heat from the welder just burns straight through. Also try the wire feed speed down to 3 or 4 and adjust up if you feel the need. Definitely use a twist knot wire wheel on the grinder great for cleaning up any area you need to weld , will save you going through so many of the flap discs.
I am happy to listen to you have a rant and ramble on as you put it , like many of us with old cars they can be long term projects with many other things in life taking both time and money. The important thing is to not give up and do what you can when time and finances allow.
Gutted for you, but TeeCee is in good hands with you, Rustivals will come and go, I too will miss yet again the next one but we all have a limit with costs...we love these old cars but gosh they do try us...plus nothing wrong with seeing more on the ZZR...🤑😁
Don’t worry…. You are prioritising doing a good job that’s all, only thing with doing the whole legs is all the millions of spot welds and getting aligned etc… I’d personally give a lot of thought to making up sections , whilst saving, so you’re not loosing time, but it’ll all come out in the wash…😊
Hi simone how u doing enjoyed watching your channel and watching the progress on tc good luck with getting tc sorted look forward to seeing the next video
thanks Andrew I will do my best.
I've got a really old 'Black and Wrecker' version of this finger file - really handy tool to have. There is an adjustment on it for tensioning the belt btw, little black knob on side.
I will be using it to help fix the hole under the drivers side headlight.
I do like that car having seen it in the metal, keep up the good work and see you at a future event :)
Wonder if you could do the car on your welding course. Years ago my son finished my Trikes petrol tank when he was on a body work course.
It's doubtfull. It will be a city college.
When I did mechanics in college they let me take my classic Mini in to do some welding jobs and even offered to repaint the sills. So it could be worth looking into if you were ever considering a welding course👍😎
@@Car_and_classic_lover I start a course in September.
@@CortinasAndClassics Good luck Simone! You'll be amazing at it👍👍
You got do what you got to do. I have to do this many times wait until i had the money. Its unfortunate but sometimes it is the way of thing's. Paying for workshops are not always an option cost is a big factor. As you know where I live the weather is another factor. 😊
It's a mine field Ali
i don't think you need full chassis legs. they mainly go at the rear and at the fork area as those areas used to be available as pattern parts. if you get really stuck i could make a pair of rear sections copied from my car 👍
Oh wow thank you Ian that would be amazing. I will look for the fork sections and see what I can find.
I feel really sorry having watched this video this morning. Must be really disappointing to get to this point and see that Rustival etc is out of reach at the moment, but we can clearly see in the episodes you have put out the extent of the work required. I am just sad that these parts you need are not cheap and easy to get hold of, and the struggle you have to do this in the limited space available to you, but admire your perseverance. I really hope this all works out well for you and TeeCee in the end x
@@simon.easton Thanks Simon, yes it's a bitter pill to swallow but it's the logical thing to do. I am not even sure if I will attend Rustival even though I have my ticket.
@@CortinasAndClassics Well it would be nice to see you whatever you come in, but I appreciate it is not exactly a short drive away, and it depends what else you are doing at the time and how tired you feel. The welding course sounds like it will be very helpful.
yep get done right - do it once and do it right sort of thing - pay off in the end youll be happier if done right
hi simone it will take a waild to due .you will get it dun .👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😄
Is there an owners club for these can anyone help from there ? .
@@dreammaker730 I am a member of the owners club. I have been asking around.
I hope you get there simone 👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👏👏
I hope so too
Those looking for £££ for bits of metal are disgraceful. The wheel arch looks grand now. I can't see a power pack running a welder, but what do I know 😮 I hope someone has the bits you need cheaper/free and sees your passion for this old car. Perhaps an email to a company making these chassis bits for any help might work 🤞, my mam had a saying " if you don't ask, you don't get"..... Look forward to the welding training, it might take some of the guesswork out of set up etc
it would run a small welder but i would say for minets lol before it would need charging again
You're doing the best you can. Doing a great job! Keep up the hard work!
@@frothe42 Thank you Frederick 🙂👍🏻
Nice one Simone 👍😊
thanks Ali, should be very helpful
awesome :)
Very nice Simone! Hope it does work for you!
Fantastic little machine.
That definitely a strange looking sanding machine for your help Simone 😊
It's a harsh thing to say but that car should not have been on the road and an insurance company would not have paid a claim. The car is dangerously unroadworthy and would not have survived any impact. This is where MOT exemption is a farce.😮 She's beyond repair IMO. Sorry😢
It is repairable and I will get this car repaired.
Hi Simone I have to admire you, so many people would be totally daunted at discovering so much rot and give up but not you my love. It will be both interesting and inspiring to see how you tackle it.
@@davecroucher732 I am daunted. But there is no point panicking about it. The problem I have is that I am doing this on my own and on a budget. The car may have to go back in my garage until I can get a plan in order.
I agree no point in panicking and once you've repaired that section you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you did it yourself.
Hi Simone, I'll take a proper look at this vid later tonight. Mad busy at the mo. Hopefully I'll have something you can use.
That is a lot of work, you can do it!!!!!
The problem is I need chassis rail sections. I can't go much further without those.
Will it end up being easier front underneath rather than cutting the good boot floor up?
Not really, the spot welds are on top but I had no idea where they were.
@@CortinasAndClassics Ah, I see. Looks tricky as fook tbh. What's the other side like?
@@SmashingPistons probably just as bad.
@@CortinasAndClassics Sad times. 😢
Great job. Dont you just love welding with your head up in the arch whilst wrestling the axle. 👍👍
@@stusoldcars4248 Always fun Stu. 😁
Wow, that is so very very rusty! Just sent you something to help towards your new tool.
Thanks!
Wow Simon that's amazing, thank you so much 🙂 I really appreciate it and it will really help.
Did you get my recent email?
good thing or bad i've just taken delivery of a mk5 cortina that's been sat in a field for 15 years
I hope it's a solid one Mark. Fingers crossed
@@CortinasAndClassics it didn't break in half when i loaded on the trailer which is a good start
@@marktyler2396 Excellent to hear
I feel sorry for you Simone, I presume the drivers side will be a mirror image of crust! If you've got money I think Expressed Steel can produce the Estate panels. You could be chasing rot for a life time on that shell !!
I don't Mac, I have seen one rear end rail with the suspension mount on ebay for £700. I don't have that kind of money.
I thought I had a fair amount of welding to do, until I saw this. It’s going to keep you busy all summer, good luck with it, you can do it
looking at it this morning I am feeling a bit overwhelmed by the scale of it and I don't think rustival is going to happen this year. The car may turn in to a long term project.
@@CortinasAndClassics I was thinking the same thing, try not to feel too overwhelmed by it all, I've seen worse get done. with something of that scale, patience and time is key. Try to just repair / replace one part at a time so it doesn't get out of hand, better to do a little often than trying to do loads in one go. You'll feel better and be able to see it getting better
Wow, you know you have to remove all that has dark rust on it or the welding heat will make it come back with a vengeance 🙄 the old rule "if it's black, it's coming back" applies I'm afraid. Is there anyone who can give you a hand? Think new panel required if affordable/available as the amount of curves etc would be hard to make. No doubt you are great at what you do and i hope a panel is out there somewhere.
Hi@@terryatkinson3182 there aren't any people local who can help and the parts I need are stupidly expensive. And I think both chassis rails need to be replaced completely.
@CortinasAndClassics only do one side at a time so you can make templates to help. I don't envy you doing this job, let's hope the weather is agreeable.
Nice video Simone...its a never ending job that Cortina...pity u cant afford a new one...ha ha....sorry i couldn't resist that...ive got a wicked sense of humour...good luck....Bob..Paignton.....
Special package arrived today! Thank you.
Yay :)
hi simone well dun .look good.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😄
Thank you Greg 🙂
Keep up the great work. Will you be going to the Ford day at Gaydon in July?
METAL!!! 🤘 😖
I think you are doing an awesome job Simone people get a realistic view on what it's like to be an auto body repair person with this and prior videos !
Another excellent video Simone 👏👏👏👏👍👍
Thank you Jimmy
you ever think of restoring it simone - i reckon you should do it - anything ever happened to you that could end up on the track - restore it and too good to race sort of thing - nice car and nice colour, dont know hiw rare mk3 estate is these days - base model, but even cooler in my mind
Thanks for the comment and for watching. If I had a workshop and all the equipment I would get everything done on the car. Other that the look of it. Yes it's quite a rarity like most mk3's these days, there were once everywhere.
@@CortinasAndClassics yep any solid but a bit ratty ones end up raced - you could paint a car under a gazebo - wet sanding a DA and stuff ive seen some mint looking cars done by owners you know - sometime in the future maybe. its good you got hold of it when you did
You will get there . I’m no expert but welded a lot as you know . Over lap underneath especially not seen from outside. Seam sealer after then underseal . Stringer metal . Oh those magnets not the best as I use them try finding old car speaker as these have really strong magnets. 👍
@@vwcoco Thanks Andy, I relly need a second opinion looking the the rust. It worries me to cut out too much.
