I had a 1.3l escort mk 3 cvh engine..the fuel pump leaked petrol into the sump incraecing the oil level. Also the oil smelt of petrol( easy way to clean the engine out though before a oil change.changed pump and no more issuses.

Simone, you were right to be cautious with that wiper spindle thread. The ratchet spanner along with the penetrating fluid (DP is an unfortunate name for such stuff) was the right way to go about it. Haynes manuals aren't the book of lies. More like being economical with the truth. The older editions are much better.
