They used to fit that engine in Ford transits in the early eighties Simone...its a Pinto...seems funny why its using oil when it was ok last year...it almost sounds as though the ignition timing is out or the plugs are firing in the wrong order... appreciate how u feel because that car is your Pride and Joy.,... Good luck.....Bob......
Great results...I had just one low reading on Oddy when I did his...but my problem was I put the starter/choke box back together wrong Ha Ha...hope you sort TeeCee soon...😅
To be honest the numbers themselves, unless really low don't matter for general use. The most important thing is consistency across the cylinders as that represents even wear. TeeCee certainly looks healthy to me 😊 OK, you probably have slightly less power than when it came out the factory 50 years ago...but that does not matter for a classic car being used normally.
Valve stem oil seals are not the problem if they were bad you would get bluish grey smoke when its running. Yes get a carb kit and clean out all the jets. Is that the orignal starter motor you got with car ? have it tested or replace it, it sounds tired. Like i said before its not wise to leave the car standing for long periods Simone, all the condensation builds up after it has been running and left standing in a garage. Also check the warranty on that battery i am sure its not 12 months old, some have a 2 year warranty.
when I was being followed after Gaydon last year I was told It was smoking but I couldn't see it using the rear view mirrors. It burns oil badly so it has to be something. I can't remember if the starter was replaced and the battery has already been replaced in the last year. The car has an isolation switch so I think the cold got to it, it charges ok though.
Nice kit. Compression looks good. Even across all cylinders. I'm not sure what the specs are on the 1.6 but if I remember from class, 125 is the low end and still should run. If the dizzy isn't whacked, timing is set, spark plugs are in good order, then we'll see what the carb rebuild will bring.
We went through a similar process with the Moggie for similar non-starting reasons, even took video of compression testing but never got uploaded. We tried everything to get the car started and although we had previously had carb issues it was mostly down to the plugs being dirty, too much standing around and too much idling on choke. I'd suggest clean the hell out of those pugs or fit new NGK ones with gap checked. Fresh petrol down the throttle and topped up battery - I think once you get it fired up, run up to temperature and it's system cleared through you'll be ok. That said - making sure carb is cleaned out is a good move anyway - though it was running ok before it's winter rest? Good luck!
@@CortinasAndClassics if your compression ratio is 8:1 and 1 ATM is about 15 psi, then 8*15 = 120, so I think TeeCee passed the test, as you mentioned. Winner!!
Compressions are fine Simone...valve stem oil seals wouldnt prevent the engine from starting...the old Ford Transits used to have a ballast resistor to aid starting...does Tee Cee have one.? Bob...
I have no idea Bob. I think the none starting is due to the carb being filthy. the engine burns too much oil, that's why I was testing the compression.
"that's one for Alex" LOL. Glad you are making progress, I am sure TeeCee will start sooner rather than later.
Wonderful to see the work continues on this little motor Simone :)
Thanks Colin
Valve stem oil seals won't affect compression, Good to see you working on the Cortina again. All the Best.
Thanks, I'm enjoying it.
Great news & in your element adapting the kit, great gift help with the tester, sound investment.
Good News 👍
I have the same tester kit 🐧🌟
Just to let you know and make your job easier: screw in the adaptor to the hose first then use the hose to screw in the adaptor in the plug hole!
Yay! TeeCee news!
Good video Simone, hopefully our cortina’s can meet this summer.
Thanks Tom. that would be great. Do you have much to do on yours?
@@CortinasAndClassicsjust the master cylinder now
Great gift and a very good tool. Wish my tester came with screw in adaptors. I only have the push in one. 😂😂😂😂 i pissed myself when you burped 🤣🤣🤣
😁 thanks Alex

I dont think the compression is an issue in the Engine Simone going by your readings.😊👍
Good video Simone 🚙👏👏👏👍👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks Jimmy

I need to get the carb gaskets replaced. Shouldn't be too long.
Throw them old battery's away Simone. Take care

My thoughts exactly Adam. I am very pleased with the result and it puts my mind at ease.
Thank you for watching 🙂

I will be getting a new set of sparks. Yes the car has sat for way too long so it's my own fault really.
@@CortinasAndClassics Good plan, don't beat yourself up about most of us leave cars sitting too long.
Encouraging signs Simone 👍
Thanks Mystic 🙂
Have you checked spark or maybe timing 🤷♂️ for sure you got the best news compression is solid , can't wait til the next one Simone got me guessing !
Hiya, yes that was done in the previous video 👍🏻
Have you got a spare coil?seems to me that even though it's sparking there's not enough to manage combustion. HTH.
I don't have a spare no. Good shout though. 👍🏻
Did you open it to wide open throttle and block the choke open? I would think 125 PSI would be good reading.
no point. I took the carb off
@@CortinasAndClassics ok. I couldn’t see that detail. Looks like the compression is good. What engine does TeeCee have?
