Where we live in Southeast Florida, the nice side of the fence panel has to face ur neighbors. We wouldn't get away with viewing the nice side from our house( unless you pay the extra money to make that side nice too!)

Did adding the top cap exceed the max height of 8 feet without a permit? Some jurisdictions can be picky. You did this so thoroughly so I am assuming your measurements allotted for the top cap. Just curious. Great work by the way!

I love this look!!! I have a question. I hope it's not stupid, but in my defense, I'm watching to learn. So, question. Fence like this, How does it hold up when it comes to wind gust? I'm asking bc I love the privacy with this style, but I have been wondering if a fence needs to have openings for wind resistance. 🤔 Thanks for the post and ideas.

Don’t use a ball hitch for horizontal pulls, they can snap off and even with a chain the tension will launch it. They’re not made for horizontal pulling. They make a tool that fits in your box hitch for horizontal pulling. “Shackle blocks” or “recovery points” are made to fit into the same hitch receiver as your tow ball. Quite a few different manufacturers.

To protect the post from ground just paint it with asphalt

Contractor quote to replace my front deck - 9k. Having my brother tear down and build a new front deck that was way better than what a contractor would do - 2k. DIY (or the equivalent) is always better, but I know it isn't always feasible.

Unless the original fence post holes were spaced incorrectly or out of alignment I don't see any reason not reuse them instead of digging new holes.

Would love to have some feedback, please? Our cabinets are more of a cherry color. The kitchen flooring is an awful slate blue color. The adjoining rooms are cherry hardwoods. Have no idea what color to paint these slate blue floors. Forgot to mention, the countertops are black/ white quartz. ( No, we didn’t pick any of these colors.) White or cream would be too stark of a contrast to the adjoining cherry floors. Black, too dark. Open to suggestions, please…

why use narrow boards on fences and sheds? just use 4x8 boards. makes no sense unless you enjoy wasting money on twice as many nails

Nice work on the fence. I have a 181 linear foot / 6' high fence to rebuild. It's mostly rotted at the bottom, attacked by Pacific Northwest moss and algae, and having a useless property manager who couldn't be bothered to say it desperately needed maintenance didn't help. I'm hoping to salvedge at least some of the posts or slats by cleaning off the moss/algae, not sure if that's going to work or not. Of course cedar is at a premium, and I certainly don't have all the necessary tools to rebuild the fence. I do know it will take a lot longer than 2 weeks either way.

Why not spray this around to look like mulch. Do they have it in black? No weeds can grow through that. Id spread it out before it dries,and spray with black or red flat latex paint.

Not sure why you would’ve taken all that stuff to the dump. You could’ve just left it out front with a free sign. People would’ve use those fences for Halloween or other projects.

A contractor would also have labor costs doubling the expenses. So he spends 13K of the 18K he charges to clear 5K which is fair but also explains why so many people can't afford it

I'll likely have a fence company install the posts and do the rest myself. I live in MA and there rocks everywhere when you dig. I'll leave that for the pros.
