The best size for an explorer, the first time Rolex has listened to their fans and gone back down to the original size! It’s perfect on your wrist. You’re just used to dinner plates on your arm
Agreed - I bought this yesterday and my Seamaster feels ridiculous now!
Well done for making such a sensible and well thought out comment. It's a special watch - I don't care what haters say about size...they are idiots
AGREED 10000000000%
36 is the way to go. It is the perfect size. This is the only watch you need in your collection IMHO.
Agree with you. 36mm is the PERFECT size. Anyone who considers this too small are wrong.
The 36mm Explorer fits your wrist perfectly. 36 mm is the classic men's watch size.
He has no taste I wouldn't take his opinion seriously
I don't think it's too small or a women's watch at all, it's the perfect Explorer and thank god a big player like Rolex makes a watch smaller other than bigger again, the huge wristwatch trend seems to finally die
its only small for people that need a larger watch to compensate for their shortcomings
@@explorerjlc1743 Or people buying smaller a Rolex because it's cheaper and trying to justify to themseleves that it's a good fit :P Seen plenty of that...
@@PoltergeistWorks the new 36mm Explorer isn’t cheaper than the old 39mm though? they are similar in price. Keep in mind, big watches is only a recent thing.
@@explorerjlc1743 Maybe similar IF YOU CAN GET THEM AT THE DEALER (which most of the time you can't). Look up the differences between 36mm pieces and the 39/41mm pieces on the secondary market and you will see a huge difference. This is the only new ROLEX that sells close to the MSRP even on the secondary market, and that just shows you people don't dig it that much. 39/41 is not big. The "recent thing" you're talking about is the trend for huge watches from a few years ago going to ridiculous 45-46mm and more (most of all disgusting mall-watches like Fossil etc.). 39-40mm is the result of natural progression over decades. The SUBMARINER was basically always 40mm, the Speedmaster that went to the moon was 42mm and that was how many years ago? Sure dress watches were 36, but not sports watches.
@@PoltergeistWorks if you want to spit facts at least try to name FACTS...the first Rolex Submariner was 37mm, not 40mm...the Speedmaster was also in a 39mm case, they only upsized the professional model that went to the moon to 42mm because it was supposed to be worn over a astronaut suit, so long story short: No, not even sports watches were always >40mm.
I'm not saying this because I have a problem with >40mm watches or anything, I'm just getting annoyed by people claiming that "36mm has always been small" or bs like that, back in the day 32-36mm were normal sizes for men's watches, hell, 36 would've been considered huge in the beginning of wrist watches.
I mean the very first Rolex Oyster Perpetual launched in 1926 was considered a "sports watch" at the time and it was 36mm, so you saying that only dress watches were 36mm while sports watches were "always 40mm" is just blatant misinformation.
I’m used to 42mm watches and this fits well in my 7.5” wrist. Love it a return to the original, well done Rolex!
It is a good size for your wrist. Maybe you used to a larger timepiece.
my wrist is 20 cm (7.8 inches), the 36 mm watch looks like a toy
@@igorigor1031 sure man. The 39mm is available for you too.
"Too small" - lmao.
From how it looks in this video, this is the perfect size for your wrist (everything larger can rather look tacky). Congrats!
Thank you for creating the video. I have this item and have been very satisfied. Coming from a 41MM the size did seem small at first, but I find it to be very comfortable and has much more wrist presence. As others have said, using the lug to lug is more of a way to judge the actual size, and the 45.2MM (tip of the end link to tip of the end link) is a moderate size for daily wear.
The only watch I have for the past 23 years. Still running , had it serviced 4 times. Timeless design and versatile. Still love it!
It actually looks perfect on your wrist, you should reconsider giving it a chance
I don’t understand how can you say that for a guy is too small but on your wrist looks better than the 39… honestly a Rolex doesn’t need to scream Rolex !
what a treat to see it; I must tell you that I prefer this one to my 214270. I think it looks perfect on your wrist, but to each his own taste. I see what you mean when you compare it to the price of a Sub, but in the US this watch cost $6450, which is a bit cheaper than there. I'm hoping to switch to this one as soon as I can. Thanks for a great presentation as always Niko!
Once you see the amount of bracelet sticking out at each end on the wrist on these smaller watches, I just can't stop seeing it.
I don’t think it’s too small for guys. I wear a sub date 41. Just tried this on at the AD and love it!! My wrist size is 7.25.
What are you thoughts on this vs a Moonwatch? If you could only keep one which would it be?
It's beautiful watch, simple yet suitable for all occasions either formal wear or casual wear.
I got this watch coming from a multitude of 38 to 42mm IWCs. And I agree, at first, it does feel a little small. And I even have a small wrist. However, it did not take long to adapt to the sizing and at the end of the day, the design is simple, timeless (pun intended), and understated. It is a classic men's watch. Not for the "Rolex! look at me" crowed.
Exactly agree 100%. I have a 7 inch wrist I own Panerai 44mm & 47mm watches. I also wear a Cartier Tank Solo so size is not an issue. It’s design that makes or breaks how it looks on wrist. Then again I’m 50 years old watches before 1999 use to be “small” 33mm - 38mm was normal and classic. A Submariner in the 90’s was considered a large watch. So glad Rolex came back down to 36mm with the Explorer. It’s a throwback size for me. Plus it looks elegant and it’s versatile. The Rolex for the self confident Rolex guy that’s not a show off or a douchebag
The simplest yet gorgeous. Soon I'll have this with my fav datejust.
I have 6.5 inches wrist. Do u think it fit well or too small. Also I wanna know the difference between 114270 vs 124270 . Out look is same right. 114270 6k should I buy?
Lovely review, thanks! May I ask what your wrist circumference is?
36mm Explorer I is very much a man’s watch. You should keep it. I bike to work and workout with my Explorer I 14270 and it’s perfect for exploring. My Batman GMT is not comfortable when doing any physical activity.
BEST ROLEX EXPLORER YET! 36MM IS CLASSY AND KING
By buying a watch which you knew would not be a keeper, you have contributed to the problem of unobtainability. I sometimes ask myself, “what would I do if an AD offered a Rolex which I didn’t really want?”. Of course, the answer is ‘I’d buy it just for the temporary thrill of ownership’.
One more thing, a small, clearly readable, robust watch like this should be awarded 10/10 for daily usage 🙂
Agreed on the daily look and feel. Its the best sports rolex.
Martin, I bought it second hand. Not from the store
@@TheDubaiExpat Thanks for the advice. I'm not upset by your latest purchase, the market is so insane that we're all buying what is offered rather than what we need. This year I've bought two Rolexes and an Omega from my AD, but what I really REALLY want is just one Blue Dial SKY DWELLER in steel. Sadly my purchases have not yet pushed me far enough up the list to be offered one :-(
Very good point.
@@TheDubaiExpat oh wow I got the impression you had luck with the AD. Was this a private purchase?
My wrist is 7.75inches and this watch felt perfect when I tried it on. In my opinion it looked great too. Just takes some time to get used to.
The new 124270 has AR coating on the underside of the crystal. Big upgrade in making the dial more legible by cutting down on glare. A welcomed addition …
Your watch score is hilarious lol… how does it score a 5/10 for “weekend use”? The Explorer is widely accepted as one of the best “go anywhere, do anything” watch. The 36mm Explorer also fits your wrist like a glove by the way..
Solid review. I agree that it’s a bit too small. The 39mm would fit perfectly. That said, I find your score a bit low especially sporty usage and weekend usage. I own a 39mm Explorer and it’s my daily wear.
Thank you bud! I also love to wear my explorer 39 daily, but I try to be objective in the score and compare it to the best imaginable watch for each category. For a daily wearer I think a date function would be appropriate or a rotatable bezel could also be helpful and for the sportive usage a higher WR, or a complication that is useful would be great. Also rubber band or nato straps fit better to that. That said the score is still very good for the watch as it scored same as the 39 while it lost on dimensions and value for money a lot of points.
What do you think about IWC?
Moin Niko!
Congrats on this purchase! It fits your wrist perfectly! It’s definitely not too small!
I didn’t get it when you mentioned the second position for setting the time. Is there a ghost date on the first position?
Best regards,
Claus
First position: winding
Second position: adjusting
Good video, would you like to make a comparison between 39mm and 36mm? Thanks
Cheers! l have something big for you....--- T•E•X•T V•I•A +•1•6•1•4•7•6•8•3•2•1•0... Thank you for watching and commenting on this video.
Thanks for another great review. Nice watch
no see through case back right?
Hopefully my next watch 🔥
Yeah gotta say, daily should be a tad higher and sport a tad higher. Between my two subs and this explorer, the explorer gets ways more wrist time. Its versatility and elegance is unmatched.
I want this watch but I'm student I'm collecting my pocket money but not enough buy this watch. Please any person help 🙏 myself please dear this watch my passion please helping for my dream
This is a perfect sized watch! Looks nice on your wrist.
Wears better than the GMT on your wrist. People are getting used to the bigger watches and kudos to Rolex for making it of proper size. In terms of comfort, easily the best of all the pieces that are offered.
It actually looks like the right size for your wrist.
This watch is soooo charming
I can,t agree whith your watch score. Since 36mm is a quite good size for many people in a ridiculous and massive sized watch world, I think that this is a very interesting option not only for sport but for dayly and every purpose use. Anyway, like always, thanks for another nice and interestting review.
I don’t see how anyone can consider the 39mm Explorer as ridiculously massive. I agree that many watches are way too big but I find 36mm just too small nowadays(still have my 36.25mm SMP bought new in 1999 and it’s just too small). I find watches 39mm-41.5mm to be perfect for a normal sized man. That said, some watches do run larger and smaller than their size depending on shape and style.
Nice one! I'm intrigued by the new Explorer but worried about the smaller 36mm size. I won't know until I try...
Congratulations for the video!! I’m no agree on the score you gave about size.
It went back to 36mm ( finally) giving the right size. 4 🤔 I would say not right at all.
Looks better than the 39mm on you mate
I know you mentioned the date complication but I honestly hate the date complication as it ruins the dial imo, I'd rather have no date. And just to poke fun both watches in my collection are 36mm, the man makes the watch not the other way around.
Absolutely preciousness
Congratulations buddy. Ur so lucky 🍀
He doesn’t even want it, a joke really
Isnt suposed to be two tone???
Nice unboxing, hoping i can get it in this year
What’s your thoughts on the rumored new 3 watch limit Rolex has encouraged ? Given you’ve bought a few recently, was wondering if you’d be impacted by this?
no thoughts on that, can't really believe this is true. How about all the VIP clients?
given the chance, i would buy it👌
Whats your wrist size?
Perfection…👌

Watches tend to appear bigger on camera that’s why you MUST try them on before deciding on the purchase. Great video!
Rolex sports models are not agreeing with you.
If you can try one on first you mean😜

@@fashioncollectiontime your first rolex is something you need to earn yourself.
100% agree! Wearability of a 36 with the mechanism of the new no-date sub.
One of the watches that need to be tried in a retailer before purchase which something impossible now a days Lol, difficult to decide on the size I have a small wrist yet this piece looks small maybe due to the dark color dial, the smallest watch in my collection now is 39mm
If your wrist is under 7 inches, 36mm is the right choice.
@@nathanf1934 my wrist is 6.1, 6.2 when I am puffy I had to remove 8 links from the speedy and nearly 3 links from any rolex I own 🤣 the rest of me normal I swear
Hi! Can you please tell me the name of the song from the beginning of the video? Many thanks!
The song is called Le train de 10h03 by Orlane Paquin.
it is definitely a unisex watch, also perfect size for men
I think it suits your wrist better than the 39mm - of course that's just my opinion :)
Eine wunderschöne Uhr 😮 irgendwann hole ich die mir 😌
Danke für das Video, mach weiter so 👏
It is very shining
What are your thoughts on the new 3 Rolexes per year rule according to Paul Thorpe?
I am not sure, I wouldn't take Pauls videos as a reliable source and could imagine (If true) this heavily depends on AD to AD and your relationship to the store.
Congrats
I’m dying for a white dial version.
Me too
It’s a beautiful watch and it looks like the perfect size for your wrist. The only problem in my opinion is the price. I love Rolex, but they have gotten ridiculously overpriced for what they are ( mass produced machine made).
Couldn’t we argue that all “luxury” watches are overpriced? I mean, my $12 Casio F91w does exactly what my Rolex or Omegas do. I guess value is in the eye of the beholder.
Fair point.
@@mikec3454 With respect, your F91w may accomplish the same goal, as do all quartz movements, but it is not something that will last generations like a Rolex, or any high-end piece will. And @Tony Rome - These are not machine made. It takes one whole year to create a Rolex. All gold, materials (everything) is made in house. I think we are comparing apples and................ turnips. lol
This watch is for guys with good taste
“Thinking man” Rolex
I disagree with the "female" watch reference. There are men who have smaller risks and larger watches for some feels like a heavy weight by the end of the day and most will take it off when they get home. However, this watch disappears on the risk and one tends to just wear it when you don't want to lug a heavy weight on ones arm. It is a classic size.
Thank you for great video as usual!
Regarding size, of course 36 mm is a mostly feminine size in modern time, but I was really surprised about comfort of wearing 36 mm watch. I have a 6.5 wrist and wearing vintage Orient 36 mm from 80’s which was belong to my father. This is fantastic watch because of size. I believe that Rolex 36 mm will bring same feelings.
My grail watch. Maybe after another Tudor purchase at my AD, I may feel like I have enough purchase history to put my name in for an actual chance at getting a call some day.
Really perfect 👍🏼 great 👌🏼I would buy it, I’m in the waiting list, but I already have the 39mm , don’t really know what to do here ? Which one to keep 😄😅😅
Buy the 36 if you get a chance. Wear them alternating for a week at a time. Determine which one you’re not wanting to take off when the week is done. Go by feel and fit, not by what others say.
Simple : 39mm for him and 35mm for her.
@10:38 in terms of functionality, the only practical difference with the no date sub and the exp. 1 is the bezel... most dont even need it... is in that regard, the sub is even more overpriced than the exp1. You are paying thousands extra for a bezel lol.
suits you very well . you should sell the 39mm
LOL
You never say no to a stainless steel Rolex
Value for money, only a 5? You can turn around and sell it for 30% more.
I wanted one and put myself on the list. Only to “discover” the Sinn 556a. Got that for $1500 on a ss bracelet 38.5mm and an Explorer dead ringer, minus Rolex branding of-course. Still on the list but for now very happy with the Sinn as my daily beater.
06:35 AR is applied on the sapphire
I caught that too. AR on both sides.
The AR is on the underside only - Rolex won’t use it on the outside until a solution is found for an applied AR that can’t be scratched.
I like that 36 explorer better than the Pepsi 🤷🏼♂️
How can you say this watch is for women?? I speak on behalf of all small-wristed men when I say this watch is perfectly-proportioned!
Please don't make such comments again. Love the vids otherwise! :)
Correct
If you are used to wearing 40 -41 mm sports watches then for most I think it will feel a bit small . Looks great on a woman’s wrist or a guy with quite small wrists .
Looks classy but not manly.
@@syedmohdfasihnaqvi155 i would say its not a statement piece. But the size is good.
I’m on 2 waiting lists for this piece🙏

it will arrive next year
my AD doesn't even return my calls about getting me one, even though I've bought a DJ and an OP over the past couple of years
@@randybrickson4290 my advice, contact multiple AD’s not just in the city you live but others?
Good luck to you: it is worth the wait!
Did he say what size his wrist is?
6 to 6.5 inch
Another great Video Niko!
This score really does not reflect this classic
Too small?? You’re crazy that’s a perfect size homie
Rolex should've released the 36mm along side the 39mm!!!! Simply way to small now!!!!
I love the intro. What is the name song?
That's what I was wondering too. I tried to search the lyrics but had no luck finding something so far.
Actually after some deeper research I've found that the song is named Le train de 10h03 by Orlane Paquin, however, the version from the intro is a bit processed.
Thank you for the hard research hahaha
Rolex watches grow on trees in Dubai lol
I think that this video has missed the mark. The comments that this is for woman has done the author a dis-service. The watch it a good comfortable size and is a portrait of elegance and simplicity. It's a man's watch, for a man who is reserved and isn't a show off or craving attention. Its a watch for the true enthusiast, for a man who appreciates this watch for what it is and what it represents. Certainly not for someone who who is seeking recognition and an ego massage for an overstated piece strapped to his wrist like a dinner plate.
I've owned the 39mm Explorer which felt small on my wrist (even though I have a relatively small 16,5cm wrist). Tried on the 36mm Explorer recently and while the case felt ok, I wasn't a big fan of the thinner bracelet. It's even thinner than an Oyster Perpetual. Had they just kept the old bracelet on the new watch it would have been much better in my opinion. I much prefer the Explorer II with its wider 21mm bracelet. Will you be reviewing that on your channel anytime soon?
If I get the chance to borrow one then definitely a review will follow :)
36mm is the cross over for Men & Women. It's a classic Gentlemen's fit but in this oversized watch World I can see why he thinks its a Ladies watch, however it isn't but can be worn by both.
I want to buy only Explorer I 2021. Not interested in any other watches at all.

You have a small wrist. Your GMT looks big on you. The Explorer looks suited for your wrist size. This is not a woman’s watch. I have a 7 inch wrist (an ideal men’s wrist size) and This looks more elegant than a Sub. I bet you a dollar once you wear it for a few days. Your other professional Rolex models will look big once you put them on.
