    It sure as heck is. Going from my Sub to this felt small at first and then when I got used to it - it just dissapears on wrist and is so light and comfortable. I have a large collection and I wear the Explorer 1 about 95% of the time it just works from the field to the office and everywhere in between. No date dial is utter perfection without the cyclops screwing it all up. The bracelet is utter perfection too.

    • @craftingmat5425
      @craftingmat5425 Před 2 lety

      I second that. The cyclops on pretty much any other RLX is just a nuclear design bomb. I do not like the date on a watch, as to me... I dont need it and I hate to set the date and the time, once I change between my watches (and most of them sure do have the date). I fully agree with this review, the only thing I would miss is a proper Micro-Adjustment. But maybe you dont want the utter perfection in one watch as one may have more than only one watch (the perfect one).

      @@MybeautifulandamazingPrincess ……Personally this new Explorer wears slightly small, I own and wear the 39mm that was discontinued and might be the perfect Explorer for anyone with a 7” wrist or larger. As much as the smaller version is a return to it roots the main difference is only the power reserve over the larger version. When I wear a watch, I never take it off anyway unless I’m doing something that would damage the watch! The use of a date and cyclops on this simplistic time piece could easily be added as an alternative version. Personally I like the option, as I enjoy the other Rolex’s like GMT Master 2 sport watch that has these features.

      @@greatchalla3799 I think 38mm would have been a better size, rather than 39mm. I agree 36mm is too small but the horrid cyclops would've spoiled it totally.

      @@martinstephenson4311 ….Until you’re vision is deteriorating no need for cyclops, I have a Sea Dweller 16600 ….. perfect size and for my 7.5” wrist and no cyclops, regarding the 39 mm Explorer wears larger. So if it was 38mm it might be a sweet spot. This is hypothetical it’s not going to matter as I’m not interested in exchanging what I already own.

    Thanks for the great review. I have worn my Explorer exclusively for 17 years now. I dive with it, sail with it, and it has accompanied me all over the world, from as far south as Antartica to Fairbanks in the north. Looks very nice on the wrist at any formal event. An interesting note, perhaps, Ian Fleming wore an Explorer when typing the James Bond Novels. A number of 007 aficionados feel that the Explorer is the true watch of Bond and Flemings daughter has confirmed this. .

    I think only insecure men whine about “lady size” watches. People have different preferences. There’s no right or wrong. But confident men would never put it down as “it’s the size for my girlfriend/wife,” or “it’s a lady size.”

      dont let the obesity rate fool you. There is a reason men wore smaller watches in a time long ago. People love mentioning the bigger watch trend, but fail to realize it is largely due to the worlds obesity rate climbing. I'm a damn healthy 125lb 5'8 man and my wrists barely break 6 inch. 40mm look a bit ridiculous on my wrists.

      Watches at the end of the day are a matter of taste. Wear what you love in good health and let others wear their watches in their taste. Room for all of us in this hobby. I love my 214270 in 40mm because it celebrates my son’s birth, but my 36mm date justs get the most wrist time. Just picked up a 16013 Birth Year date just this week to pass to my son with the 214270.

    214270 is the best Explorer ever made. At just over 35mm, this new one is a ladies watch.

      I’m always puzzled when one equates watch case diameter with gender. What exactly is the case diameter cutoff between a man’s vs woman’s watch? I would like to know so I don’t accidentally purchase the wrong size.

    • @whereRbearsTeeth
      @whereRbearsTeeth Před 2 lety

      Well, I don’t think the 124270 would look proportional on a wrist size greater than 6-61/2 inches. Most men have at least a 6 1/2 inch wrist. That’s why I’m saying that the new Explorer is better suited for a woman’s wrist. That being said, I’m sure there is a small percentage of men who have a wrist that is smaller than 6 1/2 inches. In these cases, the watch would look fine. Finally, anyone commenting on this watch needs to have seen it in person before developing an opinion. It is very small and dainty.. noticeably smaller than a 36mm Datejust.

      @@whereRbearsTeeth i've got tiny ass wrists. i wear "womens" watches all the time. i also am not a fan of chunkier watches to begin with. I fkin hate dive watches. 36mm wear similar to 40mm on my wrist. Its sad in some ways because i pretty much have to steer clear of anything 40mm. But i do get more options in "ladies" sizes (i dont go under 33mm) so it kind of balances out.

      @@johnprosser5035 I get that 39 is the sweet spot for many, but I think that it’s just because we got ourselves used to wearing bigger watches that many think a 36mm is too small for them…in the last century every man wore 36 and even 35 or 34mm models, no matter how big of a guy they were, they’d probably feel awkward wearing the watches many men wear today

    • @Danielpi
      @Danielpi Před 2 lety +16

      Practically every f-ing watch now is 39-42mm. Rolex makes *one* model in a classic size, and some people are complaining that too should've been supersized. Ridiculous. I get that we live under the reign of the Burger King and Dairy Queen, but it's preposterous how the fat wristed are incapable of tolerating even a single model that doesn't cater to their corpulent lard arms. You literally have thousands of watches to choose from in your preferred dimensions.
