      @@jimwashington860 You can, just save your extra money. It may take you some time but I assure you, well worth it. I will go further and say this is a type of watch that ends a collection. This new Explorer 36mm became my on and done. I sold a few pieces to fund this, and a few more mid tier watches will go on sale, because the Explorer is the only watch I wear. In the 90's the 36mm was very difficult to get. I missed my opportunity to buy one new (I don't like to buy used). I didn't like the 39mm so I went on without an Explorer. after 20 plus years this came out and was the first client at my AD to ask for one. A 6 months later I got the call. October 2021. So don't wish, save save save, Rolex will continue to produce the 36mm Explorer for at least another 10-15 years. You have some time.

      If you are looking for just one quality mechanical Swiss tool watch, this is definitely the ONE to own. Wear it anywhere, doing anything. I wouldn’t buy from a flipper but USD msrp $7,200 was worth it for me. I’m an Omega guy and purchased this Explorer from an AD last week. 6 3/4 inch wrist, usually a 39/40mm watch size but on this particular watch, I like the 36mm. 1953, the year I was born, old school cool. Yes, I’m old! Never really wanted a Rolex, except this one.

      @Archie Baldwin I agree on Aqua Terra! I have old school Omegas. Moonwatch, Seamaster 300’s and a Railmaster. My favorite is the next one that I buy 😁

    Just picked this up right away after a call from the AD. Had to sell my beloved BB58 to fund this (the value retention and today's market prices sadly had to play a big factor in this decision). It's my first day with it and while the size and wrist presence is definitely reduced, also missing the warmth and red accents from the BB -- I can already foresee a long relationship with the new explorer. Definitely have to give this some time and appreciate it's simple but also striking allure. Thank you for this great review!

      @josefsbeach Před 2 lety +3

      @@timemycollection Do you have previous purchase histories? I was lucky I got mine in about 5/6 months. To update -- I LOVE it. It wears a smidge smaller than 36 (or at least an illusion) due to the tapered bracelet an 19mm lug width. The overall feel tho is fantastic. I've held the old 36 and the recent 39mm and this new 36 feels a whole lot more refined. Mainly the OG size, tapered bracelet, chromalite lume, 72 hrs power reserve, AR coating, and properly proportioned dial layout makes everything really makes it feel like its "the best modern version" of the Explorer. One thing to note though that the AR coating + lacquered dial makes it a bit more showy/blingy than the matte tool feels of previous versions.

      @@josefsbeach good to hear.
      I have no previous history with the A.D’s I’m registered with.
      Which is why it’s difficult to obtain. I feel like i’ll never buy on the grey as i don’t trust it and I can’t afford the premium compared to my living means. The price of the watch alone is more than a big thing to me, let alone an extra fee on top!
      I do feel this is the best version of the Explorer also. And the fact that it wears small is exactly what i want. My biggest watch is 40mm excusing a garmin smart watch at 47mm.
      I’ve heard it doesn’t really fit nato’s well but that isn’t a deal breaker for me!
      Thank you for your update and all the best with your watch memories 🙌🏾

    • @josefsbeach
      @josefsbeach Před 2 lety +2

      @@timemycollection I totally hear you -- I've always wanted the explorer as it's really the only Rolex I honestly wanted in their catalogue but couldnt justify the premium as well. That's why I sold my bb58 when I purchased the Explorer from the AD.
      I have small wrists as well and 36 is my favorite size. Don't worry about the nato -- the bracelet it fantastic.
      May I suggest subtle follows ups with your AD. It helps to keep yourself on top of mind for them and show them that you're actually interested in the piece rather than just being a random flipper. I believe the Explorer would be the easiest to get within their steel sports range -- but then again nowadays Rolex itself is impossible to get unless you pay premium. I'm considering myself extremely lucky to have been offered. Best of luck!

      There was no concept of “wrist presence”. Watches were big enough for you to see the dial on your wrist. Why be bigger. It would just get in the way. I believe the early submariners were ~38mm.
      Now watches need to look good to people standing near you rather than yourself. So everything has to be 40mm++.

    Got it. Small and charming. Watches have become so large in the last few decades that this one appears small, but that was the man's watch size back then. Doesn't matter - it's readable and fine. After a few days of wearing it new watches look oversized.

    After almost a year of everyday use. This really goes under the radar, and it's really a do it all type of watch. It's a non-fuk boi flex Rolex, a non-look at me I have a big dik and I'm a douche Rolex. This timepiece is nearly perfect, and it's still a strap monster even with a 19mm lug width. It looks just as amazing on a Hodinkee distressed leather strap, on a NATO, or even on a bund strap.
