"They are never going to achieve the same level of accuracy" I wouldn't be so confident about that, I have a feeling this will age like milk. Advancing tech, videos like this, and the fact they are actively attempting to get as close as possible (even on the movements now) means they will be there sooner than later. A few years ago channels like this said they'll never get even close. Now that they are almost impossible to differentiate, The rhetoric has moved to: they won't be able to replicate stuff only visible under a magnifying lens or a microscope. In 3-5 years it'll be: well, replicas can't copy the in-store and service experience I guess (Especially funny considering Rolex are the absolute worst in this regard).

Great video on the subject, one of the best I've seen. I'm a watch seller myself, and these days I won't attempt to authenticate a watch "in the field." Example: A friend walks up to me at the poker table and wants my opinion on a piece - unless it's one of those obvious older fakes I'm not going to comment without getting it under a loupe. And to be sure I'm going to have to crack it open. Unless I'm missing something, the most obvious issue with the fake movement is it uses the standard 2892 type double regulator arm setup while the genuine has one newer style regulator arm.

Logic says you are paying £14,500 for the name !
My friend in Australia has a genuine Rolex Submariner and recently contacted Rolex about replacing the clasp on the bracelet.
Even he was astonished when Rolex quoted him over Au $3000 for a new clasp ! That’s just the clasp, not the bracelet !

He could buy SIX super clones for the price of a gen clasp !

It’s too complicated to reproduce, and merely physically copying it is not enough. I mean, they could try physically copying it, but it’s not gonna keep time properly because it needs to be properly calibrated by somebody with an extremely high level of skill. This alone would not be cheap. So they have to resort to a cheap version of a balance wheel that is designed differently such that it is much simpler to calibrate, but keeps time nevertheless. One issue that they will never really be able to replicate due to cost is the edges of the components in the works. Stamped steel has a specific way that the edges look and you can try to polish it out, but it's always there. Similar to how a milled piece just looks different as they can't completely hide the grain of the metal. They can also try to color the spring, but it's similar to comparing fake versus real anodizing. One is a process that you have to do the process and the other.. isn't the same effect.
But, yes, 95% of people on the street would not notice.
Also, yes, that spring isn't replicated as it's costing Rolex a couple of hundred (their cost) to make. On a $20K watch, that's nothing, but on a replica, $200 and $300 parts add up fast and kill your margins. So I doubt if we will ever see parts like that being coped 1:1.

They can try to duplicate the look of the hairspring all they want, but it's the balance wheel that they will never be able to reproduce on a 1:1 basis with Rolex. The balance wheel is what sets Rolex and the reps apart. Probably the only detail that the reps will never get because it requires an extremely high level of skill to get right. It's probably the only component on a watch that you will never be able to copy on a mere superficial basis, but the rep makers are already very well aware of that.

The market for a $3000 clone is extremely limited as well, since anyone who can afford a $3000 clone can also afford the real thing and will simply buy it.
On the other hand, yes, I agree with you about him also protecting his own industry because he's not going to probably show the best clones. The Swiss industry has huge markups, a bit like the precious stone industry, and needs to come down a lot on their prices. For instance, a basic entry-level Rolex should cost, based on inflation and previous models from the 80s with similar technology, about $4K. This sub has to be VSF

    • @herewegoagain...
      @herewegoagain... Před 6 měsíci +4

The first part of your comment is correct, you cannot get these from the factory directly (to my knowledge), but the extra "middleman" cost is what is called profit: because no one works for free. Be it the replica watch market, or literally any other item, the factories that make goods usually do not sell directly to consumers because the logistics of individual sales is not their business. Retailers, no matter what form, offer these factories the service of said logistics... for a fee. And, if the factories chose to take it on themselves, they would also do so for a fee, passed onto the consumer, because, again, no one likes to work for free. There is more to getting an item in your mailbox than JUST manufacturing said item.
The second part about what you said, regarding the replica factories ability to make a watch with "no more differences" for $600, or the idea that you can swap out gen parts is... utter nonsense. It might be true for a lot of the watch, but it won't in terms of A) precious materials and B) the movement. The first is fairly obvious, so I'll go into the second:
The only reason a replica factory can make a movement that looks pretty close to a real one is because a Rolex 3135 or Omega 8800 are still very similar to the ETA 2824 base in many ways. These factories can make a relatively reliable and accurate ETA 2824 clone because decades ago, for a brief time, ETA outsourced manufacturing to China, and thus they were able to keep the tooling and knowledge of that exchange. But that is all they can do. No one, and I mean no one, is going to be able to build you a perfect replica watch AND perfectly recreate a custom, recent, in house movement for $600... not one that works, anyway. And, no, you cannot swap in a 3135 balance setup into a replica: it will not fit, nor will it work.
Now, there is some validity to the statement that luxury items are often overpriced, but not for the reasons you stated. A Rolex, with all of its features, is overpriced at nearly $10k. But, you cannot build that piece for $600 either: it is not possible. $6000? Maybe. But not $600. Now, you can still make the argument that, regardless of build cost, a Rolex simply is not worth it, but that doesn't mean Rolex can magically put together a Submariner for you for $600... they would be taking a massive loss.

@@stevenkelby2169 Yes and no. If you're just comparing material cost, sure, but that's simply incorrect and misleading.
Apart from material cost, there are alot more than goes into making a watch.
      1. R&D. It cost the replica factories TENS of millions to reverse engineer the Caliber 4130. Now imagine Rolex had to invent that movement by SCRATCH.
      2. Manufacturing. This is pretty much self explanatory, manufacturing cost in Switzerland is way, WAY higher than in China. Rolex's tolerances is also way stricter, which produces more rejects. All this are cost that goes into making a high end watch. Fake factories do not operate under such stringent conditions, which is why a lot of fakes breaks down after less than 2 years. Fakes also do not provide warranty, Rolex does.
      3. Marketing. The fake manufactures are simply piggy backing Rolex's marketing campaign. Without these marketing campaigns, the Rolex name would've be as sought after. The cost of paying Formula 1, Tennis, Golf etc are upwards of hundreds of millions. All this cost are footed by Rolex.

If you switch the replica sticker to the authentic, most people here wouldn't be able to call you out. This shows that people are just paying for the brand, and has nothing to do with actual performance.

There’s an episode of Antique Roadshow where a gentleman purchased a Daytona back in 1971 for $345. Adjusted for inflation that comes to roughly $2,573.00! A new Daytona runs about $35k!!! That’s one hell of a markup!

You can only compare that to its current MSRP $15,100 not it’s resale price but to your point that’s nearly 6x the original cost. We do , however, have to remember that Rolex did not have the same brand cache as it does now and the materials / construction methods were not as refined so some of the increase can be attributed to those points.

Very informative and helpful video, thanks a lot.
How much is the Super-Clone Rolex shown in this video please? From where did you buy it?
I have 3 authentic Rolex watches and I love them all.
For curiosity and for fun I want to buy a Super-Clone Rolex, and I know what I am getting into, so I am careful.
My difficulty is finding a good and trustworthy "Rolex Replica Dealer".
Several of these dealers are scammers as they take your money and never ship you the Rolex replica watch that you bought.
My research show that the scammers do NOT accept credit cards and insist you sent them wired payments.
Reason is we are protected by the credit card companies by refunding us the cost of orders NOT received. Scammers do not like this.
    So here is my question??????
From whom or from where does a person buy a good Super-Clone Rolex?
What is a decent price to pay for a good Super-Clone Rolex?
    Thanks a lot for helping.
