This is Episode 206 of Mike Finnegan's Garage and it's one I've been excited to film for a long time because it's about putting my 1955 Chevy Bel Air back together. Say "Hello" to the new and improved Blasphemi! With a goal of competing at Hot Rod Drag Week 2022 I set out to rebuild this legendary straight axle, stick shift, 8 second street/strip Gasser class car for better looks, more speed and more reliability. In this video we go over the new paintjob, new wheels, and why there's no Hemi under the hood anymore?

Looking forward to seeing blasphemi back and running again also when's the caddy update vid goin out?
As soon as we get from drag week the caddy comes back to the garage. Hoping to have the engine soon.
I was thinking the same thing .
@@FinnegansGarage Can’t wait to see that too!!!
I own a 65 Coupe Deville so I'm pumped to see the Caddy get finished.
@@FinnegansGarage maybe one day soon you can run all or atleast all the big Drag and Drive events in one year I would especially like to see you go on Rocky Mountain Race Week and take on the reigning champion of the Gasser class over there and I think he also enters in the stick class but it's the guy with the car he calls Ole Yeller and it's like a 53 Chevy Bel Air with a twin turbo LS in it but I would like to see the two of you go at it all week
i'm always kinda surprised of the constant carnage of high end parts with this car. glad to see it coming back
What happened that the engine let go
Sometimes even the best parts can get taken out by having other problems. The last engine was good and should have lasted quite a while. But, they had a trans shifter problem so ended up over reving the engine and killing it.
@@matthewklein9225 During the thrash to get ready for Rock Mountain Race Week, they installed the shift lever for 1st/2nd backwards. So they were launching the car in 2nd, then shifting into 1st. Bad news for an engine.
@@joelclancy3776 you know what. I remember that. Thank you.
this is the 2 second time around ( must work better as a combination ) for the t56 transmission as the 5-speed was the replacement for it. hopefully he doesn't money 💰shift it like last time or pull a lerory and or has lockout's as h-patterns + 6 or 8 gear's choices can = more valve's crunchy 😉captain. don't get me wrong my personal mopar is rocking a TR6070 but im mindful of stupidity
For future upgrades look into Peterbilt hood cables. More heavy duty cable and the ends are cleaner crimped
Great refresher. Making it more street-able makes sense. Inspirational to get my 55 4dr going.(transmission rebuilt)
All you need is the tool that crimps properly. Nico press. For the 1/16 cable you can get them I pliers. Black cable and copper sleeves. Professional.
Love it, I'm so jealous of all the handy tools you have. That little belt sander is King 💪
Hi you would'nt happen to know who makes that sander?
@@williamrullman7063 525 Industries 360 degree Tubing Sander Attachment. I believe he had an earlier video showing this thing way back when
@@vincentfauconnier1460 it was how he found to removed powder coating
Just yesterday I was wishing I’d bought this tool for the project I was working on & couldn’t remember the brand! Timing is everything.
@@vincentfauconnier1460 thankyou
Need to bring the O.G Blasphemi hoody back. Mine has been worn so frequently and is so threadbare in so many places it's more black cotton that I've sewn into it trying to hold it together than it is original hoody, lol. Keep up the legendary work and good luck for drag week!
Looks great! Love the wheels, seats and new look. Same old friend, just cleaned up a bit. That trans will be much better for sure. Especially for long hauls like drag week.
I got to say that sander on the drill is sick. Best tool I have seen in a long time!
Sweet & Sinister...I'm digging it. Sometimes what is old school becomes new cool! BlaspHemi is a blast and a built Hemi in a '55 Chevy. The '55 Chevys that were built for the movie 2Lane Blacktop were cool and were legit 10-second street cars (built 454 BBC, Tunnel Ram w/2 Holleys 4bbls, Muncie M22 "Rockcrusher" 4-Speeds, etc., etc.) and Blasphemi is the next level while paying homage to those. A few years ago, I thought: Well Done Guys. Fast forward to present: Well Done & better, improved nicely!
Tom M., Combat Veteran (ret.), SouthBay, So. Cal. Current rides: '21 Challenger Scat Pack Widebody & '21 Harley Davidson Road Glide Special. Future want to do...(to relieve my youth when I was 16): '68 Chevelle, built 427 BBC, M22 Muncie, 12-Bolt Rear w/4.10 gears.
Looks excellent! I'm loving the more sinister and "street" look the car has now. Can't wait to see you guys at drag week!
That's a damn fine looking hotrod with them new wheels.
Looks awesome, I can't wait to see it run!!! keep an eye on the front of the rear wheel openings, the 29.5w grows quite a bit on the top end.
Wheels looks soo good! Loving the new look! Looking forward to seeing it back in action. I can't believe it's already two years.
Can’t wait to see it hook at the strip! Party pulley time!
Blasphemi not being allowed to be Blasphemi, that's blasphemy. I love it!
Yes,indeed
I’ve always loved this thing from the Roadkill days with the Ray Charles headers and everything you’ve done with it since! The new look is killer and it’s really cool to hear you excited about this car again!
It’s awesome to see you excited about this car again like a kid in a candy store putting those new wheels on it and the seats look right at home in there
Wheels look awesome! And I’m super glad you stuck with the Hemi so many people just go LS I’m a huge Mopar nut and I love to see someone stuff a hemi in a hot rod it’s something I could just sit and look at for hours lol Great work man
For sure a hemi will always be more expensive but at the end of the day you will always be able to produce more power than anyone else
Not feeling the black wheels but glad you're doing Drag Week this year. Can't wait!
Agreed it just don’t look right on the black wheels
yep, those polished rears were just plain tough looking! with a matching pair up front would have been plain sick!!!!! oh and yellow lettering on maybe the rear? oh heck ya!!!
@@54raceman agreed the Halibrands were better in my opinion but its not my car
You getting after all your projects reminds me to get after mine! I absolutely love that y’all are still kicking it in the garage at the house without a lift. Thanks for the great content.
Oh I remember meeting you just after the car was destroyed! Can’t believe it’s been that long!
Even at 8lbs, thats a whole lotta weigh comng down when it wheelies. All that will be absorbed by the case and the lower rod. The sheer limits of he harware will likely be the weak point. May want to consider a shelf on he bottom. Best of luck at the races!
F=M x A
It's also going to be 8lbs helping prevent the wheelie so it might just even out
@@mrastleysghost no, it won't.
Thank you for posting all the great videos on your channel. The car, tool's , build great content !!!
Mike, clearly you guys have been doing a lot of planning in the background. It is nice when you have time to make quality of life improvements. I hope the hemi is done in time for drag week! Good luck!
Great refresher. Making it more street-able makes sense. Inspirational to get my 55 4dr going.(transmission rebuilt)
New wheels are dope just need to add some gold pin stripe to them so it brakes up all that black.
I like it
Gold lugs and centers would be nice, too.
They definitely need something because right now they don’t begin to fit the car
Gold pin stripe is a good idea cause yeah I was looking at the wheels too and thought it just wasn't right. Better than the screaming chrome but black on black is just too quiet. That will make for a nice pop but not too much.
Can't wait to see it in person. I agree with someone on here needs some color on wheels either some pinstripes or lighter colorr but I was never a black wheel guy so my opinion is of an old fart. The seats are perfect paint them olive green like old WW-2 B-17 bomber seats so would be at home in a gasser to me. Looking good fingers crossed engine is there in time.
Agreed. I think just dull magnesium silver would look great on those wheels.
In an off road jeep magazine few years back they did a special coating... It wasn't gold, it was more bronze but that wasn't the color either. Can't explain that particular hue but I think it would look perfect on this car. Let me see if I can find more info on that particular wheel coating process..
I’m usually not a fan of black wheels, but in this case I’m a fan of the more “evil” look he’s going for with them. No show with the wheels, just business.
Best thing about wheels is that they simply bolt on and off. The wheel "look" is so very subjective, totally up to the owner. They can always be changed!
I got a set of old ET mags, each 15x8, the real deal from the 70s. Dad bought em new, they been on chevrolet vans back then, a couple oldsmobile 442s just for the "insta" of the time which was poloroid. LoL!
They been in the basement all these years and are still mint! No clue what to put them on next. They are the goofy uni-lug oval washer setup with flat bottom lug nuts to hold them on. When done right they didn't vibrate but I can see how the whole thing could go bad real fast. The center i.d. seemed to match most everything we tried them on so there is that.
I have a set of centerline "pro stock" wheels from the early 90s. I think they still look ok. Polished rim and satin centers with the centerline signature smooth "rivets" holding the centers to the rim. Fronts are 15x5 and rears are 15x8 with a
4 and 7/8 offset. I ran mickey ET streets in up to 29.5x10 non Wide on those wheels with no problem. Wait one problem, they grew big time the day I went from 28 to the 29s... I was going rounds but the right side grew enough to chew into the leading edge of my wheel trim. At the time I decided it was worth it to sacrifice the trim so I cut it with tin snips and won my class that day! Thing is now those wheel opening mouldings are like $75 each for decent originals! LoL! All in the name of the timeslip!
So great to see updates on blashphemi, my all time favorite ride of yours!!!! Rock on 🤘!!!!!!
It’s crazy to me all the upgrades over the years
This car deserves its own channel and crew
The best drag car build ever
Always love seeing more of the Greatest Roadkill car. I swear you guys just keep making that car even more likable.
Great way to kick off a day in the shop! Fabricating headers for my 512 powered 71 Dart Swinger today.
I'm so glad to see Blasphemi coming back to life! I was wondering when you were going to get it back together!
Was just given a mint 1986 buick regal from a customer of mine I do landscaping for. 36k original miles. Has the 307 olds and OMG it's slower than a snail. My God what I would do for Finnegan to set up my car!! Been watching you for years and years it seems and always enjoyed everything you were a part of. Hope to see blasphemi back in action
looks good except polished wheels in my opinion look 1000% better
I disagree.
I worry about that battery when the G-Force of a wheelie effects it.. That 7-9lbs will be 100-200lbs when that front end comes down!!. with no bottom bracing, I fear you'll lose your batt..Your core support is great!! and will hold up fine,, but the batt is only held in place by those little hold down posts/rods that are meant for horizontal placement not vertical.
I was thinking the same thing. That tube stock on the bottom may wear through the case as well from the vibration of driving the car. Lithium battery fires are bad news.
I was wonder if a lithium battery would like engine compartment heat, maybe not a issue on this car?
Also was thinking the same thing. Maybe add two more standoffs on the battery mount lid. Probably okay if you dont drop it hard on a moon toon run lol
Heel learn
It's Blasphemy. It's going to break even if it would be fine on any other car.
That is proper. Good job guys. Looking forward to watching it go again!
Another GREAT video. Love the music selections too. Great to see you guys working on Blasphemi again!
Man...I remember when you & Freiberger picked this thing up..did you ever imagine she'd go from a Roadkill spare junk car to the high dollar parts eating MACHINE she is now?
Love the new look, not crazy 'bout the wheels..maybe they'll grow on me.
Hope it all comes together in time, looking forward to your future Drag n Drive adventures.
This was always the plan he just used the roadkill part of it to get paid to work on his project car
I'd love to see what would happen if you guys randomly signed up with this thing at some no prep races
Your choice in music for these videos is great. Lovin the content man cant wait to see Blasphemi ripping again!
The absolute most epic car on any channel. I'm glad to see it getting the attention it deserves.
We need a Leroy rematch when they are both up and running again.
why? Leroy is a low 7 sec (hopefully even faster) and Blasphemi is a 8.5 car. I am always down to see a calb but they should run cars that are in the same ballpark
@@d.b.cooper6695 Blasphemi already beat Leroy once. It's entertaining to watch them race since both are stick shift. Leroy can run 7's but the track is always the equalizer. I don't care who wins, I'd like to see it.
Whatever happened to blasphemi vs farmtruck?
Free tip for you, next time you have battery in the trunk, just connect the negative in to frame with short cable and you save 50% compared to run both of the cables..
Always good to see you make progress... Added bonus seeing David and not Cotten.
Great video glad to see the improvements on the car & it’s back in limelight .I’ll be watching
Normally not a fan of black wheels Mike but they do look great on the car, way better than the chrome, fab choice.
Working on light fixtures we have aircraft cable with adjustable grips. Wonder if it would be convenient to use that setup so you can set the front clip to tilt at whatever angle you want in case you need the extra room? (Unless I'm delusional and thats exactly what that is 😅) Great video!
Where can I check this adjuster grips out? Are they like the ones on the jet boat steering cables I have?
@@FinnegansGarage ill shoot a picture of the ones I often use to your Instagram
Loving the new look and wheels. Shaping up nice !!
Heck yes!!! I can't wait to see ya out there banging them gears again! One day I'll be there racing with y'all!
Heat & lithium batteries isn't a great combination. The other side of the rad would have been a little cooler but probably still not ideal. Not sure on the specifics for that battery but keeping sub 50deg C is generally the way. Lead acid is way more tolerant to heat.
I just checked the cell datasheets and it seems like the LiFePO4 cells are indeed only rated to 60*C (140*F). If space allows, a bit of an airgap between the radiator and the battery would be much better for the battery.
Honestly, I would have mounted it somewhere on the firewall.
Yeah and nice battery acid venting all over the place.
Can't stand em, go AGM at least.
Some of the cars I've got are known for wiring issues under the hood, all corroded to crap.
Mine doesn't have any of those corroded wiring issues,it's had an AGM since it was a year old.
@@MrTheHillfolk There's no acid in a lithium battery. The electrolyte is an organic solvent, wonderfully combustible!
I 'm glad you're getting it going again especially with improvements. Can't wait to see how hard it runs. I think the seats are great. I like the new font. In my opinion, the new wheels make the car look like crap.
I agree with you about the new wheels
You are two hard working guys, and it has paid off. Finnegan, and of course David. You have the best ‘job’ ever. Two guys hangin out in a garage building stuff.
We don’t get to see the behind the scenes stress, but who doesn’t have that. We all enjoy the fruits of your labor, and live vicariously through the great videos!
from a rusty shell to a street beast gasser I have been lucky enough to watch your journey with blasphemi..keep up the good work ,,been awesome to watch..
An Electric 55 would be a Travesty....
That reaction time at 3:06 haha. What happens when your battery fails and you don’t have a spare? You can’t mount a standard battery there in that orientation.
Yeah that’s definitely not real well thought out for a drag and drive car. Unless he’s planning on carrying a spare and I doubt he is
Lithiums don't drop cells and suddenly die like lead-acids do. They usually fail through a gradual rise in internal resistance and loss of capacity, so the car will crank slower, and slower, and slower as the battery ages.
@@nerd1000ify but if it’s damaged somehow that’s an issue
@@robertnichols7637 yeah. Also in a frontal crash the battery might catch fire.
@@nerd1000ify that’s correct..something I mentioned early in this video & something I’m surprised I didn’t see anyone else mentioning…certain lithium chemistry won’t work under the hood because of heat…so hopefully 🤞🤞 that batteries stable while getting warm/hot!!
These videos definitely hit different this early in the morning 💪🏼💪🏼👏thank you
Crazy what fresh paint and new wheels do to the look of a car, loving it. Same same but different.

Good to see Blasphemi getting some love again and a six speed.
I was a big fan of the slot mag wheel look you had before. But i must say the flat black 200s wheels are absolutely killer! You nailed it! Blasphemi looks so much more sinister now. I love it, great choice. 👍🏻
I can't get over how good those new wheels look!!
The wheels look killer!!! Very nice, goodluck with Dragweek!
Blasphemi is looking awesome! I will certainly enjoy seeing the come back tour.
When you were trying the seat and rowing through the gears I was SO expecting you to make engine noises, LOL. Looks good, a Polished lip on the wheels would set it off nicely.
I didn't think I would like the daisy look on it but it fits with the new font. Glad to see the greatest roadkill vehicle back in the work rotation
In our area of CA we always called those American Racing 200S wheels “flower mags”. Interesting how different regions use different names gif the same stuff. Living the Blasphemi content! Can’t wait to see you guys racing it and making cool road content!
Looking forward to seeing you on Drag Week.
Seeing your beard go grey over the years has made me feel better about my greying beard lol..cheers Mr Finnegan.
Blasphemi looks absolutely wicked, dude! Can’t wait to her, wheels up, at the track!👍
An old school way around getting a Hemi block is to weld 2 bosses into the lifter valley and cut grooves for the pushrods on a 440 block to support the extra bolt holes of a Hemi head, then figure out a way to cross bolt the mains or use a girdle - and your block problem would be solved. It's a long way around getting a Hemi block, but that is the way they used to do it.
Can't wait to see you in drag week.
Love the new look of blasphemi. Can’t wait for drag week!!!!
