Newbern deserves an elephant stamp for his efforts. The wingman from hell. Major respect...
Well due to shipping delays all we could get him was a mushroom stamp
More like a parachute man. Geez
My hat is off to Newburn, best cohost ever.
well he dosent do it for free, he is on the payroll!!! but he still puts in effort.
Newburn has been a hero for Fin and the Haulass guys. Great work!
Put studs in the bellhousing bolt holes. Your aluminum block will thank you for it in the future.
My thought as well.
Then you have even more hastle trying to pull trans in some cars don’t allow enough clearance for all that to pull trans back far enough to get off the studs
@@MyWolffy Not an issue as you have to pull it back far enough to clear the clutch anyway.
I like that they show the problems that always seem to arise while assembling a car, even when you try to plan there's always something that screws with you that's not in any book.
Honestly with the amount of niche BS i have delt with while working on cars for that past 7 years is wild
That’s why you need to build in extra time, because shit happens. You can’t start a project at the last minute, like these idiots. For years they always wait until the end, and think the lack of planning makes good tv. It’s just shows their lack of planning.
@@davidvanstelle5299 no i disagree cuz some of you lot take years decades to get shit done unless u have the tesion of a car show or race to finish your car other wise it sits for years as u do your planning, ill be over here tinkering with a running and driving car
@@davidvanstelle5299 You must have never built anything. You can't plan for everything. Especially when building custom stuff.
@@davidvanstelle5299 it’s not like people purposely choose to put themselves in a time crunch. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve pissed off neighbors from firing up a race car at 4am because racing starts in less than 12 hours and we’d been up all night thrashing and need to know if it runs and drives. A lot of times it just works out where you can’t plan in more time, you have to bang it out to the last minute to make the race.
By far my favorite car and channel on CZcams! I can't believe it's been 2 years since Blasphemi has been in action! Alot of respect for the entire crew...the thrash and time and effort is unparalleled. Once dragweek is over please please please get some Caddy content!
I'd love to see the Caddy too! He's shown every other boat some love this summer! 😀 😆
The triumphant return of Hemispherical goodness!
Someone should teach these guys metric, watching them try work out the lengths is hilarious 😂
Not gonna lie, got teary-eyed when she fired up and ran clean. I know I've missed her, can only imagine how much you have, Mike!! Very freaking cool brother!!! 🤙🤘🎶
Omg the sound of that hemi with that blower sounds something magical 😍
Newbern is the man! Don't forget he's also survived the Aussies to this point ;)
I would recommend using studs for the bellhousing. Also regular thread sealant Teflon is not the best stuff to use. 3m yellow ultra weatherstrip adhesive is awesome. It doesn't get crumbly with age and always peels off making bolt cleanup easy. My engine guy swears by it and so do I!
Why did I never think of this.....always used it to hold gaskets in place (couple drops here and there) hold valve cover gaskets in the groove, Intake gaskets in plastic manifolds...but as thread sealer....sweet
I was thinking studs in the block with Indian Head gasket sealant.
Henkel (Loctite) sells thread sealant for just such an application. No reason to bodge it with weather sealant that probably won't handle the heat. But a stud would help, for sure, so long at there is room to remove the transmission over it's length.
@@brianwright9514 my engine guy has over 40 years experience and a couple Wallys for his personal race vehicles. I was skeptical as well but all my teardowns on my sbc have proven it substantially outperforms traditional thread sealant. It's the best I've seen in my 30 plus years of messing with cars.
@@brianwright9514 good point on stud length for removing transmission
The shots of it mangling that dyno at 30 min in... Dude!!
26:33 that dude is a true friend. The car just fired up for the first time and everyone outside is watching, but ole boy is up on a ladder checking out you're garage door opener. That's a true buddy
seeing that car on the ramp truck again is a beautiful sight even with the ramp truck pucking trans fluid. just knowing it's back at drag week is a huge deal I'm happy for you to finally get it back up and running again . I know where all hoping you do well this year.
Newbern himself is a machine that man was working till he got it to Mike always there to help out one way or another, what a champion 😉 much love from New Zealand
Oh that hemi screamin is music to my ears!!!! Luv the car so much, pure wickedness incarnate!!!!! All the best!!!!
Team Blasphemi kickin ass. Shout out to 12 volt Dave for all the hard work makin it happin capin...🤓
That bolt hole is giving me “oops I drilled it a little to deep” vibes
There is something very Special about Blasphemi!! I freaking love this Hot Rod!! Have a Great week Racing!!! 🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
One reason I love this channel is because most people would hide a mistake like this from the viewers.
Real life mechanical issues
You can't find know better friends, to go beyond their limits, to get you were you want to be. Good luck
Congratulations on getting Blasphemi back running and wish you luck on Drag Week.
Looks, and sounds great! got that real two lane black top feel. good luck on drag week, may the wrench gods smile on you!
She's the meanest thang i ever done seen, i could watch that on the dyno for the rest of my life and im a Ford dude through n through
Yeah Buddy 💪 Hemi power rules !! Glad to see y'all got it fixed and Dyno tested!! Now go kick some ass at the drags !!!💪💨💨💨💨💨💨💨
Hell yeah brother! Glad to see a hemi back inbetween those rails!
Blasphemi makes something in my soul really happy. I've always wanted to build an old C10 with a big block Ford and put blue ovals in place of the bowties
Raised in a food family I fully back this.
Bring back some balance to all the cool hot rod ford's that have the easy out small block switch.
@@Cheap-Nasty I was raised in a Chevy family but somewhere around 18 or 19 I had two trucks, a 92 Ford and 92 Chevy. Both small blocks, and very close in mileage, when I realized how often I was taking the Ford to O'Reilly's for parts for the Chevy I sold the Chevy and drove the ford for 3 years before selling it. Somewhere in that time I grew a brain and realized people only REALLY like Chevy engines because they're cheap but u get what you pay for.
@@jacobpeterson628 yeah, chevs do have the advantage that most their engines are interchangeable between, sedans, trucks and their sports cars where Ford always has been improving their technology making in house engine swaps more difficult.
@@Cheap-Nasty yeah my grandpa always said, "you can build two Chevys for the price of one Ford." That's because Ford has always been focused on improving their engines and Chevy has always focused on making their entire lineup as uniform as possible. I don't like fitting in. I have plans for a Cherokee classic that has no drivetrain. I'm looking for a wrecked hellcat so I can swap it and drive a square body Cherokee with 900+ hp
They are doing more chevy swaps now than they ever had. There are LS swapping everything from Lambos to a tesla there are tons of late model ford's ans dodges with LS swaps for a reason but it's a personal preference
"By we i mean me" hahahahaha. A lifetime of me.
Love That Old Gasser when it ran Long Distance ! WOW 💣💥
Alright! Excited to see the gang take on the challenge once again with all new engine, heres hoping that everything goes smoothly, or at least without any major bumps :D
That rear axle looked like it had some fore and aft movement when it was on the rollers. Judging by the fender opening.
Finnegan and 12 Volt are a hell of a team! May the Car Gods bless you with wheelies and fat burnouts. I’m still waiting on my blessing of some 5x5 slot mags lol
Well deserved best of luck!!! Especially after everything you guys all went through to make it👍
Finnegan, save putting silicone and thread sealant in those holes and risking creating a hydraulic force to into those holes, just use loctite. It's a thread sealant as well it's much cleaner and wont created that hydraulic force into the holes.
There is even Loctite designed to seal a threaded hole from fluids. Regular Loctite may work for a while, although most people don't apply enough to do the job.
It will be alright. Silicone wont expand like fluids will.
The new wheels make it look so sinister! Love the evolution of thus car over the years.
It's growing on me. Has more of a "here to kick ass and take names" look to it now.
@@ryanlamfers8692 yeah looks real mean plus its the same wheels as in two lane blacktop right? :) but instead of gray on gray finn went with black on black :)
Newbern is a rockstar!!
Great job to the Team pushing thru the few issues.
Good Luck Mike !! Good to see it back on the road.
SWEET! So happy to see this beast running again!
I'd really like to see Blasphemi run heads-up against Freiberger's F-Rod. Two 8-second cars but SO different...
Like American Graffitti.
Too Cool ! Great to see Blasphemi alive again. Thanks to all who contributed. Good luck Mike !
Good luck for Drag Week 2022. Blasphemi looks totally awesome. Sounds good too!!!
I was against it at first, but damn those new wheels look so good!
Aussie chevel, hope those guys can run this year
check out HAULASS GARAGE (Aussie Chevelle channel) they are doing daily videos and have been keeping Newbern company the whole time.
I'm really looking forward to this week. I hope you guys kick butt!
Dave is a beast. Instead of 12volt Dave. Need to name him Markoff Dave. Cause marked it all off your list. And with a smile says hope they have fun!!! What a great crew you got Finn you're like a proud Pappa!!
Borescope in that bolt hold would have been a great idea see/confirm if it cracked the block.
If it’s cracked, the crack is only going to get worse over time and likely become catastrophic!
I would put thread sealant on a bolt. And use a cooling system pressure tester to confirm before putting the bell housing back on
Maybe even use studs if more than a few bolts go through to the coolant passage
We saw I looked down the intake manifold.
And saw a possible opportunity in the future to match port the heads?
Understanding it’s not quite as important as forced induction. But every little bit helps
@@aszilagyi100 as I would do and I’m sure he did. But that only seals it up!
That does absolutely nothing to prevent any cracks from spreading and maybe destroying the block.
On moms caravan, siliconing it and letting ride out the door would likely work fine for the life of the car. But something making this level of power (half this amount actually) is likely to worsen over time and destroy the block…
Normally on a crack on a surface you can “drill stop” both ends of a crack to keep it from spreading. But something internal in a small diameter hole like that, you are not going to be able to even see how far into the surrounding material the crack goes, or drill stop it.
It might make a 100 passes and be fine, and unfortunately it might crack the block all the way through and destroy it on the first pass. You just never know, especially if you didn’t borescope it to see how bad it it is.
Unreal. I would have been big pissed. That block probably costs as much as a house. If it was that close on tolerance why doesn't the manufacture have a warning? Unless it's a flaw in the casting. Either way not good.
Hey Finnegan and Newbern, From what I just saw on the front of Blasphemi, you have the front rotors on the wrong sides.
The curved swoops in the rotor are supposed to sweep from inside to outside as they rotate forward, and yours are going from outside to inside.
Physics say so but some manufacturers seem to think different. I have seen both types before and usually the internal ribs on ventilated brake disks dictate the direction if they are directional at all. Most are not and can go ether way.
They're designed to pull air from the center towards the outside, so vents on the rotors have to swoop towards to rear.
@@brianwright9514 if you pause the video at 37:31 you can see the swoops would actually pull air towards the center.
Which would heat up the hub and retain more heat in the rotor.
@@rangerst_870 the only thing you can see at that time stamp is the slots on the outside of the rotor surface, which have nothing to do with cooling
@@brianwright9514 How many companies do you know that would INTENTIONALLY put the swoop in the wrong direction compared to the cooling ability?
OOPS, forgot, EXPERT cause you say so.
I found a video where the word ''phallic'' appeared, but i never expected it in a video from Finnegans garage. lol. awesome.
Warms my heart to see what great friends can do!! In the world of self seeking oligarchs and technocrats this is what shows us how to be real!!!!
Question, Finnegan: Are there enough threads in the offending bellhousing hole to install and seal a short set screw (cut down, most likely, given how little threads are in the bellhousing) deep enough in the hole to eliminate the leakage problem and avoid the need for sealant during future trans swaps?
Sharpie mark or not, I can see this biting you in the butt during one of those last-minute transmission pulls at the track. Installing a plug in this would be a step towards eliminating a possible failure point due to human error; easy enough given the stress and lack of sleep of many of these drag endurance events.
Also, fully agree with Newbern. 1/2" of depth in the block seems abnormally shallow, and the fact that the block is so thin in that area is - in my opinion - a quality defect for a block built for heavy duty horsepower.
It's too shallow already. Sounds like no one bothered to redesign the block to be made from aluminum instead of iron. Bolted joints in aluminum threads need about 2:1 thread engagement to insure that the threads aren't stripped. It sounds like they're dealing with under 1.5:1. You can get away with as low as 1:1 with iron or medium strength steel, but 1.5:1 is a good rule of thumb for ferrous threads.
@@brianwright9514 yeah half an inch doesnt sound like enough thread. i guess we will see. i hope its good enough to last through drag week :)
@@brianwright9514 Thanks. Should have thought about thread engagement myself. It's not enough into aluminum, even the A356T5 that KB uses for their casting (FYI, some sites claim A356T6).
Either way, I'd be screaming at Keith Black Engines right now. Transmission forces may be primarily rotational, but with the type of power Blasphemi is putting out, there's got to be enough cross-axial forces fighting against the load to wallow things out and/or strip some threads catastrophically.
@@brianwright9514 the specific bolt hole is the only one that runs close to a water jacket in this block. This block design has been developed over 50 years and started it's life as a full-race design, that was incrementally evolved for street use over it's lifespan without compromising any of the performance and reliability features the race block has by design.
@@fastmachineracingmedia I guess that means it's a Keith Black block. Lol.
Hey, trust me when I tell you that I know all about dealing with the limitations imposed by designers long since retired. Someone above mentioned heat treat, which could certainly add enough strength to keep those threads from stripping. But it definitely makes me think "can I get away with low torque here?"
Why not use studs to mount the bellhousing... then no need to worry about remembering silicon/sealer next time.
Love u guys, cannot wait for drag week. Please don't hurt Blasphemi, have fun and stay safe.
Thank you for posting all the great videos on your channel
Awesome I will be watching on both CZcams and Motortrend all week. Wishing you good luck and be safe and well Take Care Guys
