- It's Episode 223 of Mike Finnegan's Garage and that means it's time to get back to work on my favorite new project and the one you've been asking for an update on...The Caddy! This 1961 Cadillac Coupe De Ville is a high strung, low slung, badass land yacht that is destined for glory both on the street and the dragstrip. The goal is to run 8 second quarter mile. passes while still being completely streetable.
I found the car in an airplane hangar and bought it with 46,000 miles on the odometer. It's clean, rust free, and now sports a mandrel bent pro-touring style chassis from MRC Fab. It rolls on Mickey Thompson drag radials and Weld double bead lock wheels. The engine is going to be a twin-turbo big-block Chevy with AC and power steering. In this video, I modify the rollcage, test fit the twin-turbo Sonny Leonard 711ci Hemi engine that I took out of my jet boat, and re-organize my garage. Those bolts and nuts guys are killing it. One of those things that once you see it you wonder why it didn’t exist already and they’re hooking up with all the right CZcamsrs.
Its existed for years. We've used Fastenal and Lawson. They literally do the same thing. Heck the rep will stop by once a week and refill them for you if you choose. You too can get the nut and bolt setup shown here for $12,223.91 plus shipping.
@@freighter1097 still better deal than both companies you listed I used all 3 regularly for awhile at work and the nuts and bolts are the people to go with if you want the best hardware for your money and by far the easiest to use
The king of speed tv in my eyes Stacy Davis advertised this type of set up a few times.
There's been like a half a dozen of these companies out there for decades. Worth, Kimball-Midwest, Fastenal, there's more but the names escape me at the moment.
@@freedomfox8183 The best hardware? A grade 8 bolt from one is a grade 8 bolt from the other. One uses a barcode and the other uses a qr code. Fastenal even has bins that track everything that leaves and orders a replacement for you when stock is low. My original comment was them not being something new. I'm sure they're great people and a great company, but this concept has been around a long time.

Thank you for saving the caddy from being locked in a building someplace instead of being driven and enjoy . I enjoy all the tools you use on your channel.
It was all original into he ripped everything out that made it a cool old car even was lower mileage and everything worked like new think it doesn't even have the original frame anymore could have used a rougher one. so didn't really save it as much as make it his own car.
And before you say anything I daily drive a all original 92 Buick roadmaster for the last 4 yrs it's at 300k miles almost 100k from me. when it goes then I'll put something else in to keep it going not before .
You could say the main hoop is where the B pillar isn't.
Also, baller move using a 711" Sonny Leonard as a "mock up" engine 😉

NRE makes the same HP as SM but without the arrogance.
@@numlockkilla It's not arrogance. Steve Morris uses his rods, his pistons, his block, his heads. That's not arrogance. He looks at a problem and engineers the problem out. His engines have proven to be ultra reliable with highway use to then turn around and break records. On his channel he explains why he does things and how he fixes problems. A man who shares his knowledge is not arrogant.
i don't see many often nre motor being beat up in racecar. nre engine is a show car engine just to show up the beauty
@@pcw110 Agreed. Plus, just like NRE his engines are proven. Quickest street/strip cars out there. Both engine builders serve a purpose and from what i can tell from SM, his customer support is top notch! if that wasnt the case, he wouldnt have customers! Either way, you cant go wrong
With Steve Morris you don’t have to worry about getting your motor but with NRE you will be lucky to even see your motor get done.
It makes me happy to see you enjoy your "hardware store". I used to build custom cnc bandsaws, and not having hardware of all kinds on hand was a massive pain! It made work so much more efficient
Big cars going down the track quickly is fun to watch. Your eyes have your brain shaking your head.
Anybody that's ever built a custom hotrod knows nothing can happen without fasteners. Being able to grab whatever you need quickly is invaluable. Very cool.

Since I started watching Mike's channel a few years back THIS AWESOME Caddy blows my mind and I do appreciate and understand Mike not having patience with those ripp'n on him 'cause he's modified HIS HOTROD to b what HE WANTS. 😀👍👍

I learned probably half of everything I know about machining with 2,3,4, & 5 axis CNC mill's by just watching, listening, and studying how someone else does something that's been doing it longer than me. The rest I learned all on my on. Being hands on and just learning the mechanics of the machines on how everything works. I've been machining since 1997 and now I'm the one that's being watched and teaching the younger guy's.
Im absolutely bewildered how laid back you are Mike.....your so relaxing to listen to, i may have to take a nap here soon. Will you read me a bedtime story.......please Mike lol

One of favorite and most anticipated builds going on right now on YT. I’ve always wanted a a 65-68 coupe, and recently moved it into my 5 year plan😂 I have a couple other builds going on and don’t have room or time to mess with three. Can’t wait to yours ripping and cruising.👍

As for an engine: seems like the obvious solution is a Steve Morris SML, but a BBC works- gonna give you hell of time fitting it though

Just started watching and I he first words about falling in love with the car again. That is soooo true. Had a 62 ss impala sitting in the corner for years and pulled it out the other day and I’m in love with it. Only car I can think about right now. I’ve got others and better cars but this one has my hart as of now

The guy in the narraive says only year Cadillac had the 'rocket tail lights" He should take a look at the "60" as it was the 1ts Cad with virtually the same tail light only not laid on its side. Kudos for the Nuts & Bolts guys make hings so much easier as organization usually does.

That year Cadillac is smooth as hell. The lines. And the way you got it set up and riding. Looks really good. I even like the color. And the skinny front tires and fats in the back. Love it. Can't say I fully agree with the hemi, but do what you do. Still great.

That shop is better stocked than any hardware store I've ever seen. The bolts are even in the right places. Of all the toys that have been through there, that might be the thing I'm most jealous of.
That Cadillac is such a beautiful car. I don’t quite understand putting that much horsepower in that car, but I like what you are doing.
