MetalJesusRocks Seriously! I agree, I was especially drooling over that *Kessler 3.2L 4 Cylinder Engine* that they fabricated...talk about an EPIC addition to the package, it's like *they built the 356 that "never was" (but should've been lol)*.

My childhood family doctor had a 356B and I can remember him coming round for house calls and no matter how sick I was I'd always want to go look at the car. I think that 356B helped me recover more than the drugs did!

Back in 'the day', there was an award called 'index of performance'. It took into account the performance of the car based on how it performed considering engine size/weight. Porsche always won the award. Back then, as with this incredible Emory build, I have the highest admiration for the Porsche 356. Hat's off to Emory for his family's dedication, vision and commitment to craftsmanship exemplified with this build. I totally agree with what Jay says in this video. This is a car which brings joy to the driving experience.

I never did look twice at a Porsche up untill about 3 or 4 years ago. Then a friend told me to take his 2012 Boxster for a day's 'test drive'. Now I see what the name of Porsche means to the owners. I won't say I'm looking for one to buy,but,...I am educated somewhat, it what the marque implies.
Porsche's ARE different and not just a jazzed up Volkswagen, as my previous thoughts had taken me down that wrong road.
Drive a Porsche when you get the chance, and you'll see what I did.

When I was a young boy in 1956 I worked at the Circle in Miami Springs. My job at the time was folding newspapers for my paper route. I delivered them in my 1952 Oldsmobile. There was a Porsche Dealership on the Circle. I would go over and look at the various cars and wish I could someday buy one. The cars they had were just so beautiful. I've carried their image with me all my through my life. I attended college in the sixties and I had the opportunity to drive a Porsche on the Ocean Highway. That was a wonderful experience.

Emory's story of showing up to Porsche events in the late 80s and early 90s and being put out in the cold is especially hilarious to me.
From around 1988 to 1990, I was the owner of a 356B, recently moved down from SF to LA. I'd been a member of the PCA/Golden Gate Region, and those guys were very hardcore about about driving (almost criminally so), but when I moved south and joined the LA Region of the PCA and got on the Board of Directors, I found the members to be very "different"; as in, mainly interested in "shine and show", but not so much about driving events.
I vividly remember our Region's President, Kurt, bemoaning the fact that he'd lost out on getting an award at the most recent PCA Porsche Parade because the judges found he'd polished some suspension bolt that had been originally dull finish from the factory!

Don't ask me why but I really enjoyed this video. Rod Emory was a great guest and his world of information just kept you asking for more. The story of his family was also great to hear about and the fact that the tradition will live on.
On the 1958 Special I would just love to be able to drive that car. Jay hit the nail on the head when he talked about the mystic of these cars. Sure there are the 200 mph plus exotics but they have no personality like the Porsches and others in that category. It is the karma that Jay was talking about when shifting through the gears and watching the tach climb. Its like Yoga for gear heads.

Jeff K Yeah sure.... the Cayman is an overpriced PIECE of Sh%T. Even at $100,00+..............nicely optioned out. Floor mats cost extra.....Standard on a seasonal priced $20,000 Camry LE/Accord LX. If Porsche was so successful at building vehicles Profitably; the VW Group would not have been able to take control from the Porsche Family most recently How far out of touch is Porsche with a consumer market? A ATE brake caliper for a 944.also used on the Peugeot 504,505,604,. and other mainstream vehicles cost as little as $20.00 to rebuild and new/re-manufactured units can be had for under $50.00 bucks............Porsche charges $2,000+ for the same caliper.

      D McNamara
Porsche is the world's most profitable (per car) mass-production automobile company, for one, and for two, are you serious? Floor mats being standard on an Accord is completely irrelevant to the Cayman GTS. Seriously, nobody cares what comes on the Accord when they're buying their Cayman.

I love Rod Emory's line, talking about events where they were "outlawed", when he says ". . . while these guys were picking lint out of their air cleaners, we were racing through the hills . . . ". It shows the independent spirit of his crew, willing to put up with the crap because they were doing what they thought was creative and good for them.

Steve Van Der Vorst Same here brother, I respect *restorations and all that "matching numbers" stuff*, but only because I know there will be one left in a MUSEUM one day to look at.
BUT, I've personally NEVER been happy with a stock vehicle, in the end sometimes the manufacturer gets WAY too much credit for giving you what you paid for. I want to see something different, personalized, ENHANCED (tastefully). These aren't your typical restorations with their noses in the air, these porsches are enhanced to do what they were BORN TO DO!
