In overall it was promising from the start. It's made to be a cabrio, so it is very robust. The inline six from BMW are very well made engines and even though it's fairly new engine, they had a lot of experience building those. Most importantly, both old and new Supra share one thing. They are not a great car stock but they have huge potential for modifications. That's why the old one was so popular and this one will see similar future when it starts getting old and gets into hands of guys who are willing to modify the shit out of them.
Well yea they're good cars, but unfortunately the same argument can be made for tons of BMWs as well. They're incredible machines, just not quite the thing that gets my goats running

It only gained popularity from Fast and Furious and its holy engine. I have one the mk5 and I still plan on getting a mk4 one day as well. They’re both great.

But after driving a GR, I had no choice but to drop to my knees and beg Kiichiro Toyoda his forgiveness for questioning Toyota's decision to pawn the rest off to BMW.
Toyota buys other manufacturers cars and drives them. When it came to making the first Lexus, they wanted to emulate the feel of the Mercedes E class. When they wanted to build a sports car, they figured that BMW had the best chassis. It's great both engineering teams got to learn from each other's philosophy. BMW will have you throw the bolts away after a single use whereas Toyota will x-ray their bolts after being reused to confirm they can be reused. This is the difference in their two philosophy. Make one disposable and the other last.

You realise that tuneability isn’t the only thing Japanese cars are known for right? Their reliability is also the best in the world, especially throughout the 80s and 90s. Datsuns were the first cars that made people realise cars can actually be reliable and not break down every second week. But ur right, most 80s-90s Japanese cars are so thrashed they need 20k spent on them to make them half decent cars. I would much rather a new bmw supra than an old one, unless I was a millionaire with 100k to spend on a car I drive once a fortnight. Father spend that money on a car with great performance that can also be a super comfortable daily and in all seriousness more reliable, like a new bmw supra.
