- Episode 165 of Mike Finnegan's Garage gives an exclusive look at the newly renovated 1957 Chevy Bel Air that David Newbern bought during our cross-country road trip. We drove from Georgia to California and back in Lincoln Hawk, a Chevy Kodiak enclosed ramp truck. On the way back home we stopped in Big Spring, Texas, and Dave bought this rough but really cool '57 Chevy, which had just the right amount of patina on the body.
In this episode you'll watch as he restores the chassis of his other '57 Chevy using parts from Speedway Motors and then slides fresh chassis under his newly acquired body. Powering the car is the original 454ci V8 Big-Block Chevy engine take from the OG Roadkill ramp truck and that is backed by a Silversport Transmissions six-speed Tremec manual gearbox kit. The Chevy is also wearing one of Blasphemi's original sets of Coker chrome steelie wheels! Check it out!

So good to see Dave’s son “helping “ . Some of my favorite memories are “Helping” my dad work on tractors and stuff .
I was going to make the same comment
One of the biggest hopes, is that my son grows up to enjoy working on cars, as much as I did as a kid.
Only 5mths. So have a little to wait 😂

@@dylnbxtr start buying him toy tool's and those models that you bolt together for when he gets older. Good luck
Kinda love the son is just helping his father doing some job, in the future he is doing same thing were his father does.
Thank you for having CC on your videos the hearing world forgets that there's people that are deaf. Good to see your kids are involved with building
CC is also for guys that have a wife with brain damage. Noises affect her in a very negative way.

Welcome to the Tri-Five club David.
9:10 wasn’t enough…..we need more!!! Such a awesome build!
Half of that was recycled footage from old videos, ads, and reminding you that you forgot to smash that subscribe button.
It's a cool car, will be a great build, but it would be nice to have a more detailed video.
@@moose4130 100% agree but he has to make sponcers n shit happy too. Shit gets old. Same with cleetus. I quit watching cleetus channel a while ago.
@@moose4130 ya, finnegan is my car hero but i feel like since the channel started to now, the quality has gone way down, i miss the how to and advice to learn from a seasoned hotrodder.
I think they forget we subscribers watch all the videos, and we’re invested. This quickie video was BS. I think we deserve to see Dave AND Mike trashing on this car to bring her back to life.
@@ethanrobinson649 Seems like youtube is an afterthought with Finnegan or maybe he just has so much other stuff going on youtube gets fit in where it can. I miss those things too but it is what it is.
Seeing Newbern working on the car with his son warms my heart.
I think it’s awesome to get kids involved and learning about car building
I love how Dave's son goes from power washing the frame to driving his trucks in the mud!
So cool to see your son in your shop helping you . Im a dad im 27 . Fighting in court to get my 4 year old boy away from his crazy mother . That hit home for me , great job boys !
Good luck mate.
Keep fighting! It'll be worth it. I had to and it was.
Thanks guys ! Im trying to !
SORRY...to hear of another broken Family...
@@gregboppel2511 well im in court , i was in a bad car accident in june last year , still haven’t seen my boy since then . Un real .
The kid playing in the mud, in the rain, in the pressure washer mist, is the perfect description of my life.
Description of a Awesome Dad letting his son play in the mud and rain
He is going to remember that car for ever
That part of this video made me realize how much a failure I have been as a father. None of my boys, I have 4, have had cars to play outside in the mud with. That's going to change this week.
@ tag no
Nice to see kids outside and not behind a computer screen or video game!
@@andyworks5428 that doesnt make you a failure as a father bud dont say that. I have a 7yr old son and hes just more interested in technology than other things
Love seeing little Newbern helping iut! Kids going to have a awesome life ahead of him.
Everyone needs a 57 chevy atleast once in their life.
It's not a Chevy, but I have a 57 Dodge big back window step side pickup.
Or ten like you ...lol
It was great to see the little man in the time lapse build part. Moments like that is what makes you a hero in their eyes.
Great video and good luck finishing the build.
Looks like Dave got some excellent supervision from little 9-Volt.
It's great to see your son helping, he will never forget and want this car when he's old enough.
A Man at home in his, garage, his tools, his car. Life is SWEET!! Can’t wait to more, GOD BLESS!!!
How did Dave build a running car in one 10 minute episode ,when it took both of you years to finish the C10 ,good job 12 volt
To be fair, Finnegans pretty busy buying every ramp truck in America.

Dave is working on just one car.
What a stupid question
I like to see young kids involved in projects that dont involve a tv!!
Thank you sir!
I wanna see more of the Cadillac, that's one of my favorite projects of yours ever!
Probably takes along time before interesting stuff happens:)
Absolutely, that caddy is badass , we just don't get to see it enough, MORE CADDY MORE CADDY MORE CADDY
Best part is David's kid helping pressure wash the frame and then playing with his trucks in the mud.
That right there is the American dream.
Every dads dream, working on a car with their son. That time lapse part made me wish I had a space to do that with my kids. Every moment counts and the skills you expose them to are planted like seeds. Great video, awesome story telling!
I like his philosophy “good enough for me”. I’m the same way, I’ve got a 65 VW I put together. It’s not perfect, it’s not a show car. But it starts stops and I can drive it around. Some projects can get lost when you start wanting doing to much.
A man who disassemble a front suspension using a cutting torch deserves my utmost respect
You know what’s rad about this? Well pretty much everything!
But something I really enjoyed was reading the comments - there’s about 100 as I type and scrolling through I didn’t see any negativity - all just people digging the build!
God this is my dream car! Was my dad's dream car. The year he was born. He's gone now. Lost him to a stroke 9yrs ago. It was the ONLY thing we both 100% agreed on in life. The 57 is the pinnacle of automotive design. There's NO car design better. I will own one someday. And I will name it "Pappa Joe" after my Dad.
Killer vid, love watching Dad and Son working together on a project. Memories were made that day. Enough mush, can't wait to see the finish ride.
Made me smile seeing the little one in there helping out. I remember "helping" my dad wrench on his 80 Wrangler and 88 Cherokee growing up. Love to wrench to this day!
That patina will be perfect with a little shine juice. Awesome car, with a comfy interior, this will be the coolest hot rod cruiser ever.
He needs to get it painted. I've always thought the "patina" look was trashy
Patina all the way......
@@GMdrivingMOPARguy one man's trash is another man's treasure.
David awesome seeing your son with you in the shop. great dad stuff 101
57 Bel-Aire 2 door hard top is like the "Holy Grail" of our time. You have made a great start! But that car deserves to be returned to it's glory. Please consider finishing the car's resurrection . It's the right thing to do. 👍
It's cool that Dave's kiddo is helping with the project. Best possible way to learn new things for the new generation :)
It was really cool to see Dave build his car with his son. Also you have very good craftsmanship that car is gonna be sweet 👌
It's turning out incredible! I love the look with the steelies, can't wait to see burnouts.
Yep, was about to make the same comment. LOVE them chrome reverses!!
Love seeing his son out there in the shop with pop. This is as American as it gets.
I'm not even a fan of tri-fives, and yet I've been absolutely psyched to see video of this build. This is one of those finds - in the same vein as General Mayhem - that you're *instantly* rooting for as a viewer. Watching the refurbished frame roll right under the 2nd '57 felt _gooood_ - hearing it idle, even better.
Also: "The installation of a 454 shall obligate the installer to perform firewall hackery. It's just what you do...when you install a 454."
More Newbern '57 content, please!
Newbern, and Finnegan are such cool guys building such cool projects. Please don't stop the awesome content.
I've always loved those wheels since I saw them on Ron Howard's impala in "American Graffiti" when I was a kid. Gonna put them on my 63 nova when it's done

Your English is better than you know.
Yup. Your English is great.
Their shows (and the rate they get it done) are great. I wish my projects moved at that speed. It’s all possible, but it takes a huge commitment. I have 2 daily drivers - a 71 F100 and a 70 El Camino. Also trying to restore a 70 Intermeccanica Italia, in between keeping the other 2 running. Im currently assembling a new 390 FE for the truck.

Awesome project, love how you are spending time with your son.
Your son will cherish this time and, no doubt, the car when your done with it.
We all could have time for these things. Actually, we all could afford these things too if it was our only passion. That's what makes channels like this so good. It's the inspiration.
Can't wait to see it Done,, I can't believe we got one that was that nice I guess there's still out there to be had ,,,,Thanks for Sharing,,.

I LOVE this car!
Patina thru the roof. The perfect fade. Solid as could be considering it's age and originality.
Oh yeah and a Big Block!
Well done Newbern nc very well done.
How good is it that when Dave is powerwashing the frame his kid is playing in the mud and water below it, love that !
Best part of the video

Them wheels were everything when I was a kid. Still are.
Cool seeing Dave's son helping him. Reminds me of my dad and me working on cars / builds when I was 7, fun stuff!!!
I've been waiting for an update on this car since you bought it. It's good motivation to get out in the garage and get it done. Glad to see she is already in its running stages.
The best part of that video was watching the little kid in high speed motion helping out dad that just made me laugh the whole time it was playing.
Congrats Dave! That car already looks amazing!
The memory of you giving him the 57 for Christmas kinda teared me up. Your a good friend.
Love the fact your are creating another hot rod fan who is helping you every step of the way. This is where our dreams start.. in the garage with our dads, not online.
