THE CADDY GOES TO INDY BUT FIRST WE GOTTA RESCUE THE C10!

- This is Episode 175 of Mike Finnegan's Garage and it's all about prepping for, and going to the Performance Racking Industry Show AKA PRI. Located in Indianapolis, Indiana, it's about 10 hours from my spot in Georgia. It's not a bad drive but before we could hit the road we had to rescue my '67 Chevy C10 and bring it home from Paradise Dragstrip, where we left it a week ago when it broke down. We also have to replace the winch on my trailer, because the control it malfunctioned and Harbor Freight no longer sells the replacement parts to fix it. You can buy them on Amazon.com but we didn't have time to wait for a new control box so we just bought a new winch. We'll fix and install the old winch on something else later on.
We also needed to install new control arms onto the Cadillac to widen the track width so that the car looked better. That mod snowballed into extending the tie rod end adjusters, too. Anyway, we hit the road later that we wanted but we still made it to the show on time and the car looked cool inside of the Quick Performance booth. QP made the sick full floater rearend for the Caddy, too!

List Of Things That Need To Be Done:
Wipers, door seals, carburetor, front end work.
FSM Solution:
Throw a blower on it.
I bought my 1st car from newborn, was a '74 duster with glass packs. 800 bucks well spent. Yall keep on keepin on 👍
*Newbern?
How was the 12V system?
That Caddy looks damn good even while being pushed down the street.
@Natalia Santiago Haha you're probably a dude!
That winch has a series wound motor, and the contactor reverses the direction that the field winding is connected to make it go in or out. You can't make it run just by jumping one terminal to the battery like that. Depending which way you want it go, with the contactor disconnected, connect the battery positive to one end of the field winding (either the yellow or the black connector boot) and the other end of the field (either the black or the yellow connector boot) to the armature (the red boot).
17:51 "yeah these wont be permanent"
I think we've all said that lie before lol
I love when you post videos up Finnegan. Been a fan since like 2014.
Can I just say how awesome it is to see a bunch of gear heads getting paid to be gear heads and enjoy being around other gear heads.. this channel is awesome. Faster with Finnegan is awesome and then there's Roadkill of course... setting the bar for awesomeness for years now. You guys keep it up.
Heard the voice from behind the camera and thought "Flying Sparks Garage",.... yep!
Anyone going looking back through multiple channels videos, will spot that they've got a history of helping other folk out, which is what 'community' is all about.
That's the parking lot of one of America's finest baseball venues. I love Victory Field
21:50 that paint job is downright amazing.
The fastest vehicle/transportation I've ever been in was a almost empty airliner. It didn't accelerate anything close to a top fuel dragster but. its top speed was almost twice as fast. But it's obvious that there's nothing like the experience of a top fuel dragster, but I think some people forget how fast they've gone in a passenger airliner.
It's all about the acceleration..top speed is fun, GETTING to top speed quickly is more funner-er..
😂
You could always put flex seal on top of the truck and on the tops of the windows if you have AC you don't even need to roll down the windows. Duct tape works good too!!!!!
Have to say this channel is the best automotive CZcams channel hands down. Learning something, plenty of comedy, fast boats, fast cars, this channel has it all. Great work!!!
Sweet! I bought my rearend from Quick Performance, absolutely flawless! Everything fit like I wanted, they know their stuff!
My turn soon. I want to change the Gear Ratio and start fresh.
I love the show been watching for a long time I’ve been into cars a long time get a lot of good information from your show and it’s just fun to watch all the best to you and your family and everybody on the show
I live an hour from Indy. I love your channel. I have a 1972 corvette stingray. It’s always been a dream for my car to be worked on by someone who knows about those cars!
Thanks for sharing! Kevin
Watching the dash cam footage gave the viewer the feeling you were driving downhill the whole time.
OMG the ending pushing that caddy.....so good
It’s great to see Emily and Aaron there!!
You must have parked a Square Force One next to a Ford... Transfer switch failure... It's contagious. Ford failure mode is the internal valves stick , then it will pump fuel from the one you are using to the other. Was on top of the La Sal mountains with 2 full tanks when the idle picked up 300rpm and would not settle down, exhaust picked up a funky smell and was extremely rich.
When the front tank over filled , the fuel was pushing out the vent line into the charcoal canister. The idle jumped when the purge valve opened and applied manifold vacuum to the full canister. Causing a extreme rich run the ECU tried to compensate with IAC un- successfully ( was dumping raw fuel out the tail pipe).
The McGiver move was to run off the tank that was receiving the return fuel, plug the vent line , plug the purge vac line, and run the gas cap loose.
Got it home , replaced the ”reservoir" (remote macanical transfer valve) fixed... ... ... Lift pump in the front tank was weak so it was replaced. Within 100 mi the valve shit the bed again.
Thoughts are that the pump ( rotort vaine) was coming apart inside sending shrapnel into the valve X2 . Hanging a new valve this afternoon (before the Christmas snow storm hammers salt lake basin) and going to blow out all the lines(⁹ of them) to clear the residual shrapnel.
Bet that weather feels better then when you took the crusher Camaro there in the dead of winter in 2014
Nerd time, i recognised the thumbnail as i visited the Savoy last week too. Cool place!
You can usually fix up the door seals & weather strips by pulling one side off an feeding vacuum hose into the weather stripping to puff it back up I guess you can call it & seal correctly again that’s how we do our off road vehicles in the hope water stays out longer in case we stall out in water
Dave. Seat belt dude.
I’m not a caddy lover but I have to say. This is an awesome build! Love it!
So many projects, so little time!
Jimmy is the man! Not only did I get a great product, it came with a few tips to help me get the chassis right.
Hell yeah my morning work got so much better!
It was great to see the Caddy @ PRI. Looks great can't wait to see it finished.
I think a Nascar look or a touring cross would be incredibly on your C10 Finnegan.
You boys need to mount a 12 hp engine with a belt drive to move it around. Actually build a little power unit that puts power to the ground and simply mounts to the motor mounts. It would have 5 tires on the road but it would make it much easier to move. This would work not unlike a powered trailer caddy. Just mounted under the hood. It would make moving cars around much easier.
Been following u for a very long time. I met u year's ago in Texas. And u took time out to met me and my wife and kid's for a pic taking.
Man! Love the music selection on this video. Good job!
merry healthy Christmas to you all.
Flying Sparks to the rescue...
You have the perfect canvas on the back window of square boi
It's not even finished and I love this car!
If you extended the control arms without changing the knuckle then you will have 2 issues:
1) the length needs to be added to the steering tie rod, not the rack, and 2) the steer rack may need to move depending on the angles of the new control arms.
Otherwise your going to have wicked bump steer.
Yuuuuuup.
For those who are just learning, Bump Steer occurs when the Tie Rod and the Control Arm(s) move through a different length radius.
Ideally, they should also move in the same plane as the lower control arm.
Thanks for the video guys from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
Perfect timing. Caddy time.
Instead of subscribing, I hit the "Adopt" button. Mike, you're now my pop, even tho I'm older than you. : D
Like Cotton's antique phone, I had one of those in the early 2000's when I was driving truck!
Really wanted to see the old NASCAR's in the thumbnail!
Great episode. You guys are so much fun. I get exhausted just watching a video that has anything to do with the Trade Shows. I have worked them in the years past and it's a shit ton of work, rarely eat right or sleep right. Cotten you look good man. Wrench On and Merry Christmas America.
Great content thanks for sharing
That phone you held at the end was a 3 watt analog unit made at Motorola Arlington Heights, IL facility. Probably still works, except there's no network for it to talk to now.
Love that you're keeping it Roadkill...
Love that the Caddy is still repping the 406 :-)
Plates came from Billings. Can't believe something that original survived there.
Dave put on your seatbelt, need you around for more episodes ) Merry Christmas y'all
Thank you. Love any upload. Been watching since first episode and can only hope to aspire
The new welding table looks like it is working well.
I’ve got a few ideas for the name of the Caddy….1) Coupe Defiled 2) Bad Caddy 3) Defiled 4) Coupe De Racing 5) Draggin Caddy………LMK if you like any of them…..😎 keep up the good work! Love the vids!
That caddy is going to be the most beautiful car in the 200mph club soon.
I remember the dual blade wipers from the early 1990's that were supposed to be the best wipers ever I even put a pair on my parents car at the time because I was not old enough to drive yet they worked alright for a while but they really sucked in the winter and ended up putting single blades back on the car just like they use today and why you don't see the double blade wiper anymore.
I would be in heaven if I could just sit in a top fuel car while the engine was running. I also have always wanted to build an old Postal Jeep. Couldn't believe it when I saw that.
There’s a 2 seat top fuel car running around that rents rides. Down side is it’s about $10-15K for a run. Though, if it’s a bad run they’ll give you another one.
I wanna drive a car with blower surge.. I'm a simple man.
@@NBSV1 Yea, you can see it in this video. That's what they were saying cost $10K. Can't do that on my budget, but same as him if I had millions I would definitely do it.
@@JayAR_YT That one may have to be on my list too.
Love the stance on the caddy
4:40 - *Remember the 11th Commandment:* "If thy own a squarebody or G-series van, there shall be leaks. And He saw to it that it was bad. Always."
Beautiful pup! 🐕
That Caddy is gonna LOOK SO COOL doing 200MPH!!!!!!
"Ice Ice Baby wipers" !!!! LOL
Mike, once you get that thing running you might want to talk to Holley and get a secondary injection setup for it so it'll keep the valves clean. Direct injection engines love to foul the intake valves because there's no fuel washing them clean and they'll gunk up with oil and whatnot from the PCV and build a huge mound of crap on the back of the valves until it loses all power or drops a valve or both. A catch can on the PCV line would also help, so long as you remember to empty it from time to time.
So awesome
That’s the fastest I’ve seen the caddy to date
Trying to take this all in before work today!
👍👍love the videos
HAHA I wonder how many of your fans don't know what you were talking about when you said you were pushing on the floor for the hi-beams LOL.
I have two cars with the switch on the floor. 55 Chevy and 74 Nova.
I think you underestimate the crap we all drive - most of us would be as stunned as Finnegan to find the high beams on the stalk 🤣
@@Brian-mp2mv Shoot... I grew up with my dad teaching about the manual timing levers on the columns... mag levers? Been so long I've forgotten the proper name! But yes, floor mounted starters and high beams..
I drove an '87 ford van for a while and I thought it just didn't have hi beams at all for like, a year and a half.
Did you ever see the foot switch for wipers/washer fluid? Ford had it in the 70's not sure who else. I only saw it on a Mustang.
In the beginning when the dog was on the trailer the chain rattling sounded exactly like the roadkill chain rattling sound effect like when the change scenes.
If you don't have a jig to hold the tubes you are welding always use a piece of angle to set the tubing or pipe in to hold it straight
Hope you and your family have a great Christmas Mike. From down under. Stay safe, see you next year.
Watch from Ireland. Ye are the best CZcams channel being watching since finding Roadkill and binged the first 60 episodes in a long weekend. Happy holidays to you and Newburn and all yer families
Shout out VGG for setting the trend in Bluetooth vehicles, factree.
It's a good thing I subscribed along time ago.
Thank You Sir!!!
I think it would be so cool to hang out with you guys. I love watching you guys on CZcams and all the shows you're in on motortend. I wish I still lived in Georgia, I'd try to hit you guys up. Keep the great content coming. Merry Christmas!
Another great video guys 👍👍🇨🇱
I guys are so much fun to watch love the content
Those double blade wipers will Wear out the motor. It’s happened to my on two different cars back in the day.
Another great video Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Such a badass car. It's gonna look damn good going 200
Can Newbern get a please on that hand me. Dang!
It was cool seeing the caddy in person, but damn it was cold leaving.
I had a harbor freight winch crap out as well. Could not figure it out for the life of me. Ended up getting a better one.
I have been watching since the beginning and I just have to "DAMN" do you have any reliable vehicles in your fleet? HA! Love this episode.
Only wife`s El Camino.
@@jeffjankiewicz5100 He has a Tundra pickup, I bet that runs every time he turns the key.
We only see what he shows us. Going back to Hot Rod it seemed like nothing ever got truly finished.
Too many projects, too little time. And life gets in the way.
We wanna see more of the obs dually!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Well this answer my question if I seen yall or not, I definitely did. Good video.
It also some times pumps between tanks.
The Cadillac coup de kill made it to Indy!!!
Can't wait for the caddy to be done.
Lube that winch cable.
The noise that truck makes… 👌
Big freaking fan keep up the good work Love the cars
Almost nothing works when you need it to because Roadkill. Rock and roll, Mike.
Love to see squareforce one again, by far my favourite CZcamsr vehicle for some reason. 😂
I love the Cadillac so much
Can't wait to see the caddy done. Also looks like you caught them pushing the og murder nova. Which is ironic as CZcams has suggested to me to as my next video to watch is on og murder nova. Keep on doing these awesome videos.
Th c10 sounds like it loading up.... If it were carbed I'd say the choke is stuck. Maybe its the idle cutoff switch
Everyone make some sort of comment and like all videos you watch it helps him grow the channel
Had old Chevy truck with duel tanks. Valve would stick sometimes and pump fuel into the other tank.
Love the content.
