427/4 SPEED CORVETTE UP ON BLOCKS FOR 40 YEARS! DID I BUY IT?

- We began filming Episode 169 of Mike Finnegan's Garage about six months ago when I was sent a message about a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette that was hiding just a few miles from my house. The seller told me he was the original owner and had put the car up on blocks 40 years ago, waiting for the right time to restore or sell it. It appears that time has come. Newbern and I drove my dog to the Vet for a checkup and then we continued driving my '67 Chevy C10 until we found the owner of this derelict 427/4 speed Corvette convertible. He told me it was a '67 although I think I referred to it as a '66 and a '67 in the video. Anyway, after trying to buy the car from him for several months I finally gave up and bought a different car. My friends from Hot Rod Ranch found me an unfinished '66 Corvette Coupe project car near Livermore, California. The dudes from Alloy/Driven Garage went and looked it over and picked it up for me. This car is more my style; it's already modified and unfinished, which means I can make it my own. Someday I'd like to turn it into a fast street/strip machine. For now, I just have to make a plan to get it home.

Tavarish can hook you up with a Supra no problem...
Nearing that 1 million sub mark :)
Cool intro
Shew buddy!
I actually sold this car to Dave Hernandez, Those 20 year old wheels were the first 20's made by American for a Corvette, they wanted to do a follow up but the project obviously took too long. I had the car for about 20 years and started the LS swap back when it wasn't so popular, also removed the hideous fiberglass and put Ecklers glass on the body. Then realized I would never finish it. Along came Dave to the rescue, he put a bunch more work into it to get it to its current state. So happy to see my baby have a chance to get finished! Best of luck Finn ! Keep us posted! Kevin in Livermore.
You're correct, he doesn't want to sell it. He probably enjoys the company, telling his stories when potential "buyers" show up to bid. Good luck with the new project.
Then he dies and his kids send it off to the junkyard for $250
I would highly doubt it, if the guy even has children, that is. If he doesn't it'd end up getting dragged to a scrapyard where someone else would try and save it, or it'd get thrown into an estate auction. His kid(s) could be chompin at the bit to finally own it. Granted the whole 'kid gets deceased parent/grandparent's old car, and sells it for scrap' stuff does happen, but it happens less and less nowadays with the internet and information being what it is. Just as a basic example, the one of the kids ends up with it, their wife Googles 66 corvette to get the weight to see how much it's worth in scrap, and among the results sees a corvette of the same year that sold for 6 figures and their mouth starts watering.
Man, I can't wait to see more of the Caddy soon! That thing is one of my favorite projects, that you ever had!
All the 60s Vettes (C2 & C3) are the bees knees. Iconic body lines
I love a sexy, tastefully done resto mod widebody c3 .
don't forget the late C1's. 1962 327 fuelie has always been my favorite.
@@shadvan9494 they're so sweet also.
@@shadvan9494 I agree with you a late c1 red and white resto mod would be amazing with some white wall slicks running some where in the 8s. But I do like the c3s as well but the late c1 would be the taker for me.
63-67 are my favorite body style of any car.
Mike Finnegan's "Bad Decision." It's the perfect complimentary name to "Game Over"
"There's some 20 year old michelins. They need to be replaced but Mike will probably drive on them." True lmao
*Starts truck* Dog freaks out because it's really loud. Dog gets all calmed down. Finnegan: "Oh yeah, We're dropping you off at the vet." That dog is going ot hate that truck.
For every RX-7 with an LS Swap, Rob Dahmn adds another GM vehicle to put a 13B in on his list.
It’s a win win.
Mike wants a supra?! I did not expect to hear that, I’m impressed… and then Dave says he’s an rx7 guy!!! Wow, you Guys just got wayyyyy cooler in my books 👌
Death metal charger has a 2jz..car guys be car guys. Idk why ppl compartmentalize themselves into “only liking muscle cars for example.”
@@BlitzMekanika i like all the things ... well except squatted trucks
@@BlitzMekanika 2 words. confined personality.
Why not expect that? He was a teen when those cars came out, perfect era for him....
vanilla isn't the only flavor of ice cream.
Just came home from SEMA today….. sooooooo many beautiful cars!! And beautiful vettes!!!!! Good luck!!
So pleased I can still watch this , as motortrend has been cancelled in the uk this is the only channel place for the best automotive high jinks and fun 🤩
Fellow Brit here. Would heartily recommend Cleatus Mcfarlane and Vice Grip Garage.
The Motortrend Channel is on Amazon Prime in the UK
Same here in Australia, I'm going to try resubbing with a VPN.
It's weird watching your videos and recognizing all the places you drive locally.
That's why I used to watch OCC when I lived outta town even though they were douchebags, at least Finnie isn't a douche.
ssssshhhh. lol
Guy at my church has a 66-67 Vette just like the one you bought, he is original owner. Crazy that that can still happen. Drives it all the time too.
Now THAT would be an epic drag week monster!!! Still want to see you run 8.0’s in rubber duck too
we'll definitely change the fuel pump and go for an 8 in the duck. maybe this winter. not sure. its gonna be a busy one.
Hope the OG ramp truck will be done in time and it’s first journey will be picking that up and road trip home
Yes!
"Mike's new bad decision"... oh boy, haven't we all been there. Great looking bad decision, can't wait to see more of it!!
That needs to be it's name from now on.
But it's not a bad decision.. It's a 66 Vette 427 numbers matching car!!🤯 Yes it's needs $$$$$ BUT!! Someone will pay dearly for that car finished they are extremely rare..
@@eric63377 Get what you’re saying about the ‘66, but not sure if you got that in the end Mike bought a C2/LS swapped (maybe bad decision?) not the ‘66?
Or maybe I just got you wrong?
Cheers 😎👍
@@eric63377 that LS doesn’t look like a factory option for that 66…. Just sayin!!! And bad decisions just seem to be Finnegan’s forte….but he’s not alone… just seems he can afford to buy more of them…. Sure do make for entertaining videos though
@@eric63377 rare because of the 427?
Can't wait for the Vette build. I have a '69 that I am currently restoring.
I just love that pupper wupper!!! My first dog i ever had was a buff colored cocker that had the most mellow temperament ever. He loved everyone and everyone loved him. Hes been gone for 20 years now and I still talk about him weekly to this day.
Honestly Mike, the only thing left of the 66 Convertible is memories. I think you made a much better choice. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it 👍😎.
Oh ya Can’t wait to see the Corvette being worked on.Great videos keep them coming
Good on Dave looking after the dog
now that is an eye pleasing body shape... great project!
Bad ass vette! Thanks for sharing. Kevin
I am a huge fan of the show I love all of the your time and money
Really getting to a sweet car /truck collection now 😍 well done Mike 👏✔👍👌💯
11:09 Bad Decision is a great name for this car!
Sweet. I drive by Driven Garage all the time and love seeing the cars they have.
My brother has an LS6 swapped FD. Don’t apologize, it’s incredible.
And for the JDM boys, he also has a RHD ‘93 all stock except with ‘99 spec bumpers
Sweet project! Can't wait to see what you do with it!
Mr. Finnegan you sir are a legend taking your hotrod c10 and doing some good ol truck down a dirt road stuff with it
Pretty sweet my man! Cant wait to see more on the caddy!!
Looks like a 425 hp 427. Exactly what my dream C-2 would be. Roadster with removable hardtop.
You have to do a roadkill on the Corvette best show ever don't ever let it End!
Perfect name for the C2...Bad Decision
I knew you weren't gonna stop looking till you found one and BOOM!! what do we have here
Awesome!! I can’t wait to see it get rolling one day! 🇺🇸💪🏼
Mike must have WON THE LOTTERY????
We really have similar tastes in dream rides, definitely going to be great to see you build your dreams. BEST DAY AT WORK EVER!
Love the Sunday morning uploads
I hope your going to document the build for us 🤞🙏😁
Thumbs up to beau for hangin' with the boys
Two thumbs up for gettin' the vets visit knocked out.
...that truck runs so smoothly on the streets...
Nice, keep chasing that bucket list
Hands-down, the boldest American car design to make it into production.
Great video! I hope to be in drag week next year. It would be great to see it there. The C2 is on the top of my bucket list.
This is also one of my bucket list cars that I will probably never be able to afford......Congrats on finding and buying it man!
Super cool Mike...I've always liked the C2 best
Can't wait to see yours done and ready for fun
It's really nice looking already but it sure would be a shame not to paint it
You probably made the right choice, both are great for their own reasons and projects.
Badass project you got! Those wheels must go
Vette is going to be epic! A 58 and the mid 60’s are my favorite body styles!!
Hi Mike Welcome to the C2 club . I have a 66 327 stock condition. Put many hours into it tomake it run and drive right. Congrats on the new project!
thank you!
@@FinnegansGarage Been watching you guys for years now keep up the good work! Its going to be interesting to see what you guys do with the C2. I am currently building a 78 TA Y88 edition not going stock on that car building that one for me!
Those side pipe covers are so awesome.
Great find. I hope he reveals the offer as I would like to know what something like that might go for
Keep up the great content...I really enjoy them...
Glad to see you have the same "noisy truck" problem I have with my 66 C10.
it's ridiculously loud. lol
That dogs name will be post riding in that shortly
I look forward to seeing your videos thanks
So many projects, so little time. Best of luck with this new project :D
All the best! Always! Y'all spend so I don't have to!
Excellent news. Loved the music to.
PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! For the love of all that’s holy, start on the Vette ASAP!!!!!! I’ll volunteer my endless labor to get this on the road. PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

So many cars, So little time!

Also on my bucket list
You always find the coolest cars ever, another cool video thanks man!!
Even tho I’ve been seen the c10. I just love how you did it man.
You guys rock!
Thank you
Can’t wait to see more of the Corvette
Great video, Your probably right about the owner. It’s his way of drawing people over to listen to stories about him and the car. He does sound like a interesting guy. Can’t wait to see what you do with your new bad decision. Love the channel.
Nice man! So glad you ended up with a coupe. C2 coupes are the sharpest American car made. Can't wait until you get started on it.
You know he's going to hack it up. Probably put a LS
@@toddhaver2060 hell ya!
You sure a C2 is the sharpest American car made I would rather have a 1970 cutlass Oldsmobile 2S coupe
@@issacdaniels942 It's just his personal opinion. I like 1st get camaros or c1s the most myself or 80s ss Montecarlo. I'm no means a Ford guy but the 67-68 Mustang gt500 has the class as well.
@@issacdaniels942 Yes I am sure lol.
Cant wait to see that boat build 🤘🤠🤘
That corvette you bought looks awsome the one you found you might end up with as well who knows love your videos
Good decision! That will be an epic drag week car.
Great content thanks for sharing
Newbern called it!! RX 7 with a LS!!! Everyone should have one!!!!! I did for a minute. Lol need to build another one!!!
Crazy ! looking forward to the Caddie !
Looks like it’s going to be a nice restomod. The other looked like it could have a good gasser project, C2 gassers are badass.
LOVE THE NEW MASCOT :-) !!
Hell Yeah brother!!!!!! Absynth is for some great drinkin stories
So disappointed you don’t want to try a rotary. You would have SO MUCH fun with one. HUGE turbos. Massive power and torque, crazy sound, flames and burns oil. It’s perfect for you.
Supplemental video, more anticipation of what is to come.
Another great show
Can you imagine how loud that is to the dog? No wonder he wants out, lol.
Good call Finn!
Would *love* to see photos of what that C2 looked like with C3 panels grafted to it. Hideous perhaps, but definitely wild enough to warrant digging into the picture archives!
Well another to add to the collection. 😳👍😆
That thing is awesome love that vet
Definitely need to name one of your cars/projects "Bad Decisions" XD Sweet new prospect!
sweet deal really a nice start
Hey Mike
Nice Vette
No question you'll build a shredder🏁
Dog was like hey I wana go crank the truck up let me outta here that's a huge dog barking at me
I like it! Should be a cool project.
Love your channel man,,I would love to do the stuff yall do. Keep up the good work
