- The Crusher Impala has been down the dragstrip multiple times but has never run the number. Freiburger and Dulcich troubleshoot transmission issues and more in the 1969 Chevy Impala that's powered by a supercharged 498ci big-block V8, then take it back to the track to see if they can finally get their 10-second time slip.

The majesty of that barge leaving is beyond words.
The awesomeness of these 2 gentlemen never ceases to amaze me. And to get that barge in the 10 second bracket is truly amazing.
The Crusher Impala is one of my favorite Roadkill cars. The way it violently launches off the line at the strip is always great to watch.
I've always loved the dry humor that these two produce.
So nice to see a full size car doing it and doing it fast!
Steve deserves a car hoist for Christmas 🙏 🎅
the Roadkill and Roadkill Garage formats are undefeated.!
C'mon Freiburger, use some of your amazing automotive connections and get Dulcich a car lift and save his and your poor knees. lol
Ikr
Dunno if you can find a lift that'll support this aircraft carrier of a car.
The Crusher Impala has to be one of my favorite Roadkill cars as well. The original build for it really describes well on what you picture when mentioning american cars. If Impalas would have been avalibale here, I would have loved to own a '69 myself
Man these guys are great together, by far my favorite car guy Duo!!!
I’d love to see it with a Lenco.
It'd cost more than 2x the rest of the car.
And it's just a burnout car
Yes, TH-400, the filter floats in the fluid. Weirder, it's Dave's first TH-400. That surprises me, because BITD everyone I know including myself, first thing to blow on our hi-po Chevrolets was the TH-350 transmission, and everyone replaced it with a donor TH-400 after a little work on the valve body and a new higher stall converter.
CONGRATULATIONS DAVID AND STEVE!!!! CRUSHER IMPALA IS ALIVE AND WELL IN 1983!!!!
I love Steve! It seems like he read a book about how to interact with people and express emotion, and is anxiously awaiting the movie adaptation of that book.
Everyone needs a Steve in their life
Awesome guys, Crusher Imp is one of your finest creations
It"s nice to see an old Chevy from my day perform really well. That car is running superbly.
Well done! That yacht is changing the laws of science!🤙🏼
That sofa front seat is...incongruous!
Or maybe it got a bit hot, as steam pours from the engine 😂 what a beast!
10 sec on a 1/4 mi "actual" dragstrip? Well, done, Jokers. We love it.
Such a badass car. Looks great, is really fast, and sounds great while doing it
I was a HS senior in 75. Had a 69 Impala custom. Love this car!!!!!!!!!!
Cool!
I have a 69 Caprice with factory 396 for sale was a one owner 88,000 car. Love seeing this one run.
Keep up the great work!
Awesome. I am a total sucker for anything with speedy bits poking through cutouts in the hood.
The MCM collab was awesome. Thanks for the reminder. Now punch this land boat with a 12:1 compression ratio, E85, all the timing it will take and an almighty three stage nitrous punch straight from the fist of the go-fast gods!
One of Dave’s best lines was when mighty car mods was looking at the crusher and they ask ‘but does it do burn outs” Dave replies with “oh yes it does. We know that instinctively”
Actually they say "we dont know if it does burnouts" and david replies "oh we do, that's just intuitive"
love the show where they took the pontiac T-37 thru the northeast and NYC....also love david friebeurger expressions when he drove the V6 camaro on Laguna Seca...I bought the exact same car....Camaro V6 silver....
Soon as they took it for a test drive and yelled "FIXED" I had to leave a like 😂
Congratulations on your 10s!
Where are all the hoist companies? At least 1 has to want to give Steve one, you guys are working like the average guy would but why? I don't work on my junk because I hate crawling around on my back at home, when all day I have a hoist at work. Nice to see it finally get into the 10's
Love that Impala love the Impala
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I LOVE CRUSHER IMPALA!!!!
Love the crusher impala. A dream car of mine
Well done you two
Back in the late 80's , I was assigned a project to help Reeves Callaway upgrade his Corvette line with THM400. Since the car was boosted, and the transmission ran on vacuum, there was a problem when the vacuum went to pressure. The fix was to plumb it with a vented one way check valve on the modulator line so the once it got into boost the modulator would only see atmospheric pressure. That system went into production on all the THM400 equipped Corvettes, worked perfect 👌 . Also the deep pan requires a longer pickup pipe, which your trans had, but there is also a sleeve that spaces between the valve body and the filter to keep the filter from moving around too much . BTW a deep pan is designed to allow more room for hot ATF expand into, the dipstick is calibrated to lower the level of the fluid. If you have a deep pan , but a shallow dipstick, when the fluid heats up it will get into the rotating parts of the trans and froth up the fluid like a milkshake. Great project, keep up the good work 👍
Love this car!
Awesome, love the full size Chevy’s
Relaxing life of Relentless burnouts😂😂
Great job team
Back in the day ....(1972) My friend had a 69 Chevelle that had a 396 / 375 with a Turbo 400 trans. When shifted down to "1" and racing the 1/4 mile with 3.31 rear gears, the trans would upshift 1-2 on the governor which was factory set to shift at 6,500 RPM. So, playing around, he would just leave it in first on the shifter and race. Talk about consistency. You know you have a great bracket car when you run 13.95, 13.96, 13.94 using just two gears on street tires......We were careful not to beat it to death because it was used to tow a 1970 427 Nova.....We had SO MUCH fun back then.
"...or it may have gotten hot."
I'd love to see the guys from mighty car mods come back and get to see it "new and improved".
Great job guys 😁💪🤘
Love my buddy had one early 90s stock 454 run 7.20s 1/8 mile fun car
Crusher Impala is my favorite RK car for sure.
She rips. 🏁🏁
Man for stock suspension this thing hits the tires hard.
Good stuff guys.
Love me some Crusher Impala
69 Full Size Chevys are my second favorite after 62's 👍
Yess the crusher impala ❤❤❤
Excellent works ✅✅✅✅✅
My 68 Impala is actually bigger, and it would love the Crusher treatment. when I first saw the Crusher I though.....I got to do that....I am getting that feeling again!!!
I think the Crusher Impala is my favorite Roadkill car to date.
Love that car
I LOVE that car!!!
You should run a "T" with a one way check valve inline with that so it doesn't see pressure, but see's vac. (brake booster valves work great)
That boat launched.
Nice run
Yes, that filter is supposed to be that loose.
Came here to say this.
Always a hoot!
still my favorite roadkill car
Love the crusher Impala. Hope they will just give it a bit of body love. No restauration, just rust and dents removal. It's been through alot and imho it should get some body love
U can't get mad at a guy for binge-watching this stuff. It's better than football, baseball, basketball, and the rest.
Who misses this motor in the crusher I know the ls makes it a better drag car but this motor looks and sounds so much cooler 😍
Metal work. Body.
I can't believe that old land sled pulled a 10!
My top 3 roadkill builds
Crusher Impala
Crop Duster
Stubby bob
My first car. Yellow on black 327
Wow nice work Dave and Steve🎉
Blowers make burnouts so easy. But they are BRUTAL on everything behind them. I am on my 3rd transmission, 2nd driveshaft and 4th rear end!
BDS makes a Transmission diversion valve, that solves the problem with your vacuum modulator.
Bottoms out, without the correct spacer it will throw shift points off as well by letting the trans shift with a mind of its own because of the volume?
Are we ever going to get mtod here in Italy?
Need to put that sooner shifting modulator in there it looks like
Say WHAT...A 3.50 SOMETHING GEAR??? i LOVE IT.
I have an 87 gmc burban with a th400 and the filter is loose like that as well.
C'mon Freiburger! Get a Bend Pak lift put in! Dulcich deserves one.
This is like uncle bucks’ car with a blower on top
All that and a bench seat, too.
The filter has play to level with the fluid when pitched
Loce the way it leaves! What type of converter is in it?
Now get some 22" superturbos on it tailpipes and make it super sleepy!
The ones for the Durango are 3" offset offset and dont neck down inside,
Do it!!
I dig seeing them get Grammy's car dialed in.
As for the Transmission filter being lose, it's normal, but it does look a little loser on your vehicle. I remember when I was a mechanic in the military when I was working on M998, M114, and M1151 HMMWV's servicing the transmission changing the transmission filter, O-ring, and cork gasket, the filter was lose after snugging the mounting bolts down on it, but it was fine after test/normal driving.
Old Dog learned a new trick who do thunk it
YES, that filter is supposed to be loose like that. It is made to float up/down with fluid so it won't starve the pump if fluid is a bit low. Even though the vac modulator will control shift points, rarely ever is it the modulator that goes bad. If anything you should've check the valve behind the modulator for movement. Big waste of time opening the filter checking for wear, just look in the bottom of the pan, that's wear you will find condition of trans. clutch material, bushings, hard part damage, all right there.
thank you, was pretty sure the filter is supposed to "float" but haven't had to mess with a '400 in a long while--last time i dorked with a slushbox was the old buick 2 speed.
id love to run that with my big block 70 impala.
I can't help wondering if twin turbos and a different cam would take into the 9's? I guess you can only do so much with a 4000 pound sled, a 3.50 gear and small tires.
What's the atf your using? The 1 that l use is red. 👍on the video
i want to see stubby bob do a drag race.
An adjustable dohickie?
Don't be dissing a turbo 400 I rebuilt mine with tricks from Jake's performance and it has many high 9 passes
What happened to the SubarUte?
When is season 9?!
Weld the governor closed and you have full manual.
Is Australia still geo-blocked David?
We Australians are still unable to access Motor Trend on Demand in Australia.
When's this changing?
Odd you guys did an episode in Australia plus, like you mentioned, an episode with Mighty Car Mods from Australia & then Australia was blocked.
After all these years we still can't get an explanation let alone news the geo-block will be removed.
MotorTrend owned by China now or?
You guys had Bakersfield all to your self's.
CRUSHER IMPALA for the Win?????? give it to a ROADKILL subscriber
Will you guys help me with my original, numbers matching 70 Chevelle SS with the numbers matching 402 big block engine AND turbo 400 transmission? It's been off the road since 1985. I'd love to get it running & driving again!
Yes THATS THE WAY tHE FILTERS ARE
