426 Hemi in a '55 Chevy! Roadkill Episode 8

- On this episode of Roadkill, HOT ROD's David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan hit the road on a quest to build a car they've both dreamed of for years: a '55 Chevy Bel Air sedan set up like a '60s Gasser and powered by a Mopar 426 Hemi. The guys drag out a '73 GMC Suburban that they'd never driven more than around the block (did you expect anything else?), then use it to pick up a bare '55 Chevy body in California before heading north for the 1,000-mile trip to Lincoln City, Oregon. That's the home of Jim Meyer Racing, the chassis builder that helps the guys turn the '55 into a wicked looking hot rod in a single day. There's no fail in this episode of Roadkill! Well, at least nothing terminal.

Judging by comments, it was privates for 2 years.
They brought them all back

I love how his expectations were low 10s and he ended up running an 8.5.
It is so wild to come back and watch this 8 years later. i remember seeing the rat rod vs. lambo episode an being hooked ever since. I've been on MTOD since the day it came to be but coming back and watching the old YT originals has been amazing. So glad you guys started what you started and kept it going. True legends
nah mate its a decade later time flies
@@Alex-rm4qc Amen brother
you think with how often people come back to watch the little scraps of road kill left they would just put the goddamn playlist on here
Wow this is nostalgic I can’t believe it’s been 11 years.
Who would've thought that Blasphemi started with that hollow shell of a 55
Everyone who has been watching roadkill since the beginning
@@1newageoutlaw Yep
They arrived with half of a body and an engine in the back of another car and they left with "almost" complete car. There is some kind of magic to watching them setting up the major components, that's what makes this show so good.
That 454 sounded tired after it overheated. Spun over like there weren’t any plugs in it lol
crazy to think this thing will become blasphemi
12:40 he set that up perfectly with the radiator horror story. Lol
Looked like the camara man jumped too! Haha
Putting roadkill behind a paywall was a decision frowned upon by almost everyone who watched the show, but it's a decision that was made, and I can understand it. I do, HOWEVER, strongly believe that all the videos released that were free on CZcams should be kept up on CZcams.
I thought my friend's 66 Chevelle had more mechanical problems than any car I know.....until following this thing to the present time.
they brought the youtube videos back. time to watch em all
Yessir!
The nostilgia tho bro
Whats hr fav episode? Mines was s3 e25
@@01Elantraaa i forgot which one it was but it was the one where they thrashed the wagon and van in the desert. I still wish they would've put off-road tires on the wagon. Best episode in my opinion.
The Radiator Scene was Comedy!!!!!!
Really looking like they brought back the popular episodes to try to drive traffic to their website/subscription service, I'm just happy I can watch some episodes again. Seriously MT, if you're traffic on your own service is that low, maybe consider the fact no one outside the US can use the website, and subscription services are spread so thin. Just re-list it all on youtube again, you'll get the same views back through that you got previously
This is exactly how my perfect life would be! Working on/ breaking old cars and trucks and building them back better 😎, id be a happy man skipping to work everyday
So thats Blasphemi before the paint and 1500hp blown hemi
This came out when I was in high school and just got my first car 🥺
Yeah this came out when i was too, im now the owner of a clapped Celica gt4
@@TheGromitChroniclestf?
Yeah it runs pretty good but you guys run your AC all the time on roku so that's why or he sometimes actually in the desert you don't want your AC on
Ohhh this is the first episode of Roadkill that my cousin showed me when I was little.
Me and my family have been addicted to your vids forever
That kid looked like "jill" carrying the water!😭😫
I'm from klamath falls Oregon and it was weird seeing my town in the back ground
And Blasphemi was born
i was wondering if that was this car
"You were suppose to turn on 39.."
"Where was that?"
"Back there where the sign said 39."

The show is called roadkill. Not new f450 hall my junk! I like the fact that they buy a high mile beater tow rig n handle problems as they come! Keep em coming
I agree, however me personally I’d like a new F-450 to haul my junk 😂 those 6.7 powerstrokes are pretty good rigs
Better than top gear America
I like both, but this is better.
Grayson E.
I spent a year one day last week watching these guys!
They're freakin awesome!!!!
+bon vivant This show is what Top Gear America should have been.
Everything is better than top gear america.
The trailer is worth more than the truck lol
Hey , I live 30 miles from there and grew up in lincoln city ! MOPAR POWER ..
My first truck was a 1979 GMC Sierra Grande, we payed $75 for it
12:30--best roadkill moment ever!
I spilled my drink laughing
Even the camera guy got scared
Agreed
I love how they put brand new mickey Thompsons on there, those had to have almost cost as much as the car itself, LOVE THIS SHOW
if you had sugar daddy sponsors...
Builds a car around an intake manifold.
Something I would do.
hahahahahahaha you know what they say about fools, right?
lotta guys build a deuce coupe around a cowl piece
I don't think I will ever get over the Macho Grande...
tocsa120ls I adore that thing
Currently it is in Finland. Seriously.
12:30 still my favourite roadkill moment to this date
YES

You’ll notice it looks like he even scared the cameraman
agreed.
Hamsterwheel caesarCesar
wish these episodes were twice as long
*How much oil should be in the water?... Lol!!
Thats freaking awesome. I also put a Chrysler motor in a Cadillac Hearse. 383 BB. with 16 inches of lift and 44 inch ground Hawgs!!!!> Keep building what you want. Love this!!!!!!!!
I never get tired of this channel! Keeps my creative juices flowing for my muscle car channel.

Right omg someone I can agree with
samspace81 yeah
Oh, your plagiarism juices.
that dude at 2:12 almost impaled himself on the metal!
Wish they did more episodes, cant get enough of Road Kill. They have the best job in the world and make a very entertaining show.
You guys make my day seeing all these old cars being brought back to life I love it
16:00 you know I can't remember any thing after 3 seconds hahahaha me too
All that and they _didn't_ drive it? Baaaah.
nice one....
I thought I was the only one that likes the 55 over the 57. VERY NICE!
You guys are fuckin awesome. My heroes. Working on junk cars and going anywhere you want to for days on end. That's the fuckin life
Hey there's an ostrich!
This was the very first Roadkill episode I ever saw...been hooked ever since to this down to earth brilliant show!!! 😃
It is awesome and so are Dave and Finn's personalities!!!
Warm greetings from Lahore, Pakistan!!!
Watching this show at 145am with a migrane...why? Because your show is awesome! Keep these shows coming. You guys have the best car show out there...building stuff to have fun in, and keep us laughing our asses off while you do it! Thanks!
i love how good you are at the fast trouble shoot. how your minds work on problem solving is fantastic
"Like, melted, literally; skin was hanging off of him. It was pretty bad. So go ahead and pop that."
Quite a gem we have here :)
Seriously is it radiator water, on the road? That is amazing.
Cant wait for the episode were you actually fix this awesome ride !
I need a Macho Grande in my life. That 6.5 mi/gal is music to my ears. And your reasons for running the hemi make the whole project worth it.
He definitely didn't walk all that way for that water lmfao
Shiz Jr they do have camera trucks xD
XDDD well yeah of course, I just hate how they're so damn sarcastic like cmon bruuuuuuuuh, no way you walked 2 miles for some water XD
Shiz Jr it was just a joke thats just how they are.
Yes. He. Did
He honestly might have theyre super genuine
I ran my old 93 Silverado 350 tbi out of oil and it fried a rod bearing and blew a head gasket. Puked all of its fluids out all over the new paved driveway lol. But had to sell it and got my first jeep for $1,250. 98 xj limited 4.0 4x4. But now that's gone I went and got a another jeep xj for $800 and it's the same thing but a sport and a lot better shape then my old one lol.
An Ostrich, a Buffalo and you had an Elephant in the back of the suburban... I was just waiting for you guys to say that!
Great episode - straight axle gassers with velocity stack intakes are Da Bomb !
I like these guys. They are down to earth and you never know what they are going to drive next.
it has been great to see this car evolve into a beard removing machine
What makes this show enjoyable is the bonhomie between these two.
I'd watch them paint a garage.
Stopped by Lincoln City for a few days and fell in love with the place, especially the 60's Cafe'n Diner
thumbs up for pissin off chevy guys
And dodge guys it is wrong to put a hemi in a Chevy
Isaac Stearns yup
Chris Moser im a chevy fan i craked up at thi also when they made that joke
Chris Moser more like thumbs up for providing entertaining quality content.
Blue Infinity that too
12:13 - Tony Angelo? :-D
I can't think of another Tony that has a 340 Demon... so yeah :D
Adam Ye he said duster
Bruningable i
well that tony still has a face and it doesn't look mangled so l am guessing they are talking about a different tony.
my moms sister is a TONY
Glad to here the Hemi is on the June power tour you guys were busy excellent!!
I have to agree this is just might be the most positive warm episode. Awesome. . .
Flash forward and now she runs 9's....
It's an 8 second car. Ran an 8.91 at drag week. Ran a 9.10 against John Chase and the Hoonigan crew recently while 'hurt'.
And wheelies
Mid 8s or better as of 2022, time moves even faster than the car
What is the song that starts at 12:50 please? It drives me crazy!
I live in bishop, that's dope that you guys stopped here!
Thanx guys for the help ive been needing !!! I have a 85 Chevrolet Suburban 454 70,000 Original miles that has the same problem with the trailer lights and blown fuses . it requires a 15 amp fuse and i tried to upgrade to a 20 amp and it still blows the fuse . I thought it was the female end of the connector but as you so generously stated " The wire is rubbing on the frame rail causing a dead short makes perfect since. thanx again
you guys are frickin awesome. everything you are doing on this roadkill show I want to do with my life. im hooked!
The only episode of Roadkill where the guys have struggled to get a car to STOP running.
Finnegan Pissed off 758 Chevy guys
man I'd kill for that burban
+Cory Foster Hey,,,,my husband and i saw it first!!!
+Cory Foster Freiburger sold it on ebay a couple months back. Went for like $5,000. I bid but i only had $3,200. :(
For real though
+Infinite I would have paid 5 lol
Kind of cool to see you driving places I've been. Fantastic frames built there
Love both the Belair and the gmc. I'd love that style of suburban id I ever had the chance to get one. Y'all rock.
Is this the birth of the Blasphemi?
Yes
I love this program!
Somehow when it's finnegan's personal car they don't fail. It is refreshing not failing.
I would put the engine in the suburban
hell yeah
no way that would be a waste of a perfectly good 426. those things don't grow on trees you know, there is only a handful of them left in the world.
I miss that truck what happened to it
it died
SpeedStray no it didn't. It was sold on eBay for $5000 and ended up getting shipped to Iceland
You guys do a great job together! I wish yo could do more episodes. Keep it up. Your a great team!!!
15:50 BLUES BROTHERS!!! So cool, love this film!!
I dont like this Chevy, it reminds me Trabant 601 or Skoda Felicia 1959.
It what mechanical universe can a 55 Chevy Bel Air remind you of a Trabant 601 or a Skoda Felicia, it's miles apart
Benjamin Bell I meant in design. Both of them have similar front grid and lights.
Benjamin bell

I have been trying for years to find out the name of that movie 2 Lane Blacktop. I used to love that movie as a kid.....thnx dude!!!
I’ve watched every episode and I’ve heard this is the best day at work more than I’ve heard we did everything right lol
Look at the top right on 5:07, lol
It is like a must-have type of calendar in every workshop :)
lol, ive watched this episode like 20 times and never saw that!
You guys seriously need to invest in some very high quality 10 core radiator and just carry between every car for every roadtrip.
Pyrex but that would make to much sense and that's not what roadkill is about. I know this comment is 2 years old but still.
if they actually used coolant instead of water they'd probably do a shit load better
Water is better than straight coolant.
Antifreeze does nothing for cooling. It just lubricates and prevents corrosion as well as changing the freezing and boiling point. Running straight water with a high pressure cap and additive will drop water temps drastically.
veggie headache...absolutely correct...
One of the most underrated roadkill lines "I spent a year in this parking lot one day." 14:09
12:13, he even got the camera guy, dam good Fry.. dam good!
At 11:29 when Finnegan flexed his muscles. 😂 I miss episodes like this.
Hey guys. My names max Morrison and I live in virginia. The 55 is my favorite car ever. You guys are awesome. I've always been a gear head but not as much until I've seen roadkill. And finnegan,I'm growing a gotee just like yours
Love seeing you guys here in Cascadia.
That's where I live! Lincoln City, Oregon! I've never seen a famous CZcamsr group coming to my home town before, That's awesome!
I was inspired by your show to off-road my f-150 and i got stuck and my dad had to come pull me out now hes pissed! Thanks a lot ROADKILL! JK not your fault i love your show!
