    I think there’s a misconception that iRacing is some kind of end-all be-all for sim racers. There’s actually a lot of issues with the physics, particularly when it comes to how the game handles oversteer. And the price tag for it is pretty insane. I also would absolutely not discount the quality of AC, ACC, rFactor, and Automobilista 2. I would put all of these (especially ACC) on the same level as if not better than iRacing.

    • @IdealMediaChannel
      @IdealMediaChannel  Před 2 lety +25

      It's not because of the simulation quality that iRacing is "the end all be all", it's the quality of competition. It's just soooo much better racing online in iRacing that any other sim, by miles. The skill, the courtesy, the clean driving, the race craft. iRacing can't be beat.

You could do a lot of challenges in Forza Horizon 4 or Motorsport 7. And if you also want a realistic racing sim, the best game I could think of is Project cars. Snowrunner is a awesome off-road game for those trucking and off-road enthusiasts. I love my setup and can’t wait to upgrade it with next gen consoles and a racing wheel

    You can still go cheaper. The Logitech Driving Force GT isn’t a bad wheel. I actually prefer it to the G29 imo. The pedals admittedly aren’t as good but are fine if your not planning on using a clutch pedal and the wheel is quite noisy when it’s turned. I use mine on a Playseat that I picked up for £75 on an EBay Auction a couple of years ago, which also came with a Logitech Driving Force wheel and pedals that I sold off as I already had the wheel and pedals. Connect that to a PC and your away. Another cheap Alternative for PC is the Microsoft Sidewinder force feedback wheel.

    So about 20 years ago, I had a Sparco seat from my car while it was in the shop, and I got a Logitech steering wheel and pedals and then mounted it all to wood and just kept recutting til the geometry was right and it worked great! And like maybe $60 worth of wood and a fist full of nails. But if you got a junkyard seat that would work great too! Certainly much cheaper and easy to do if you’ve got some tools and have the patience to actually just do it.

    Just make sure you have the space for these setups. I bought The G29 setup and my shifter doesn't hold onto the glass table top very well, but is still a great choice. At the very least you can get an ACTUAL car for the price of what worthwhile sim racing setups cost for PC so you have to ask yourself would you rather have the real thing or a fake setup. I have about 1,500 dollars in my project car and its drivable. That's close to the same amount of money as a quality:PC, wheel, chair, Pedals and shifter,handbrake is generally sold separately.

    • @IdealMediaChannel
      @IdealMediaChannel  Před 3 lety

      Yeah but how often do you drive that $1,500 project car on the Nurburgring? I used to build and race cars, and my ~$2,000 setup let's me "race cars" unlimited for what it cost me to run my project car for a weekend!

    • @ConcussedGaming

      @@IdealMediaChannel I drive it every day. Maybe not the Nurburgring, but small town America IS my Nurburgring. There's nothing in Europe that you cant find here. At the very least my car could get me to see the ACTUAL Nurburgring. A chair and computer doesn't take anyone anywhere. I love my G29 and Asetto Corsa. I love video games. But when it cost nearly the same as the real thing, there's a clear winner. Getting out and driving wins everytime.

    HEADS UP: The G29 has an adjustable spring, the G920 does not! If you dont like force feedback, the G29 will allow you to set how heavy road/engine feedback feel, whereas the G920, unless its programmed in the game, you'll have to remove the spring entirely. Just something to look out for! Asseto Corsa does not have this option as I found out the hard way :)
