Lewis I bought a 330ci for $3k but it came with a leak that stopped after a month for some reason(probably gonna bite my ass in a couple months) and the driver door wouldn’t open from outisde. It’s a great car the performance is amazing I learned how to drive stick in it quick i recommend everyone get a e46 just make sure you check oil leaks and he left out the expansion tank on the cooling system, that part breaks within 75k-100k miles
@@IdealMediaChannel I got my e46 330i for a little under 4k but it was low mileage compared to all the other ones for sale. And you're right about the cooling i went ahead and replaced my whole system and if it's over 100k miles make sure to check the disa valve

Early 2000s buicks 1999-2005 they can be found for cheap often low miles and lots of them have the 3800 engine which is a v6 known for its good gas mileage (20mpg in city and 29mpg highway) as well as for its great reliability and cheap repairs they where mainly bought by elderly couples so they usually have low miles and are generally good condition

i had asbolutely zero automotive experience before i bought my first bimmer and all of the repairs are super diy friendly. You shouldn’t have to pay anyone to fix your own car. Bmw’s have one of the most informative youtube and forum community. I’ve never had a problem that i couldnt find on yt/forums.

😂 I agree I have a 2014 BMW X3 at 84,000 miles I had transmission problem, I rarely drive it now it just for leisure. My 2004 Honda Civic had 300,000 miles on it I never had any issues with the transmission except for wear and tear on other parts. I traded in for a 2018 Civic EX... WOW! The 10th gen. Civic is a beast.

I bought my 2001 Honda CR-V last year for only $2,250 with only 89k on it. He had all of the service records and the car was clean and in perfect working condition, and of course, it still is today! I love the thing, it's super fun to drive, feels like a sedan, but being a compact crossover, has plenty of space in case you need it. It's super reliable and practical, and I personally think it's one of the best cheap cars to buy for a teen looking for a reliable car that's versatile to fit various needs.

Mike B oh man do I have a story to tell. So when I checked these out (keep in mind I never texted the seller in anyways just looked at the TLs) but a week after I was getting all these messages like “can you do $800?” And what not and once I checked my account apparently I was selling 3 different TLs in 3 different states and I’m still confused as to how they hacked my account but it goes even deeper because whoever got into my account replied to the people saying the whole “contact me via this email” but I did text everyone who contacted me and explained the situation. Hopefully they didn’t get scammed in anyway
About 6 months ago, I bought a 2009 Dodge Charger for 3k, and I'm honestly very happy with it, I haven't had any problems with it, and I it's always really fun driving it

I can vouch for the Acura TL although I recommend you avoid the 2004-2006 models due to transmission issues. I own a 2008 Acura TL Type-S with 172k miles and it still runs and drives like a dream! Before mods, I was able to beat G35s and 335i. If you can find a manual, I highly recommend it because it comes with a 6 speed as opposed to the 5 speed in the auto. Hope I could help!

As a grad student currently, I would've EASILY put the 2004-2006 Scion xB on this list. Yes, it looks boxy for days, but it's cheap, reliable, very roomy (I'm 6'2", over 300 lbs, and fit in it no problem), and has SO MUCH modding capability for a cheap price!
Second.I would chose the BMW 3-series beacuse my friend has one but its a diesel a 2.0TDI.Its a real cheap and relaible car,and im a Audi fan.

This guy is right about it going 151 had a tan 6 speed TL and yes they come with a 6 speed stick, brembos, and a LSD this was standard on the manuals rather than the automatic I remember hitting the top of 5th doing about 150ish thinking damn I didn't even touch 6th like wtf but IMO a very fun car in stock trim and they are reliable ASF
Honda Civic. Cheap, reliable, great fuel economy, good handling, easy to drive. If you're a student on a budget, take my advice. Don't buy anything with fewer than 4 doors and don't buy anything with more than 200 horsepower. You can't afford the insurance. A $3,000 BMW is going to be a lot of things. Reliable won't be one of them.
I agree Civic transmission is Teflon, I had a 2004 Civic LX with 300,000 miles on it never had any issues, I just traded in for a 2018 Civic wow 🤩 I love it. Only wear and tear to replace other parts they are easy to replace and cheap. My 2014 BMW X3 85,000 miles transmission issue, and you can’t just replace the battery yourself it had to be programmed by the dealer $380.00... Civic do it yourself.

as a bmw 330ci (manual of course) owner i'll help you with the issues; rear subframe crack, cooling system, lower control arms and bushings, ccv or vacuum hoses. However, it is a great car for a tech and is fairly reliable. Now lets move on to the acura; it has an issue with very cheap leather on the front seats because it always cracks. Feel free to add to flaws.

As a College owner of a Scion Tc, the hatchback and folding backseats gives the car an amazing amount of room for moving in and out of dorms. Super easy DIY fixes, all I need is a funnel, pan, and a ratchet for oil changes and repairs. Never have to spend money on taking it to a shop PLUS insurance for it is cheap. Only downside is the ceiling is low so any friends sitting backseat better be short.
I got my 2001 4th gen camry for $100 USD with 102k on the dash, love this car with the TRD kit and aftermarket wheels looks great
For the 3 series (e46), I own a zhp coupe from 2004. And the cooling system is simple compared to a lot of other common issues, such as the oil pan gasket, vanos fixes, valve cover gasket. If you can buy a car, doesn’t mean you can afford it. Just have $2000 or so saved up for issues.

That generation of Acura TL has two engine versions, the 3.2l with FWD and the Type S with 3.5l AWD. The only complaint for me is that you must replace the timing belt because is an interference engine as opposed to a timing chain engine.
Bad thing for the e46 is the subframe since it cracks of you push it hard (I had one and it cracked). The other thing is the open diff, definitely should be replaced for a LSD. Mine was a 2001 325 CI and it was a great car to drive, I miss it

Although prices are now dropping due to COVID-19, I guarantee the Corolla, Scion, and Vibe all had high mileage or were in poor condition in order to be under $3000. Also, it was either the 09 or 10 Corolla as being one to avoid.
Have a 05 Acura TL, had it since 2007 still running at 380K kilometers. It does not have any major issues (get a manual as the automatics tend to break on the car) if maintained well.

The Vibe is a great car. We have 2. One 04' in the family that was my mothers, then my fathers, passed down to my sister and then me when I needed a ride and it threw a rod at 257K... the other my sister has with I think about 140K. If you can find a 6 speed GT / turbo swap you are in for a treat.
Note: the base Vibe comes with the 1ZZFE

3:17 the TL is literally the 7th generation Honda Accord outside of the US. Plus, depending on your market, you can get one of these as a wagon. Those never got a V6 though, the K24 was the biggest engine offered. This era was when Honda decided to design different versions of the same car for different markets.

I can vouch for the Pontiac Vibe. Yes, it is ugly; but it can be immensely fun. Parts are relatively cheap, and there is some aftermarket support for the 1zz-fe. Some have put a TRD supercharger on them, some have put turbos on them, and they can rev pretty high. I've driven one for 4 years. It is very snail-paced of a car, but keep the momentum up and you've got yourself a pretty modest corner taker. Amazingly enough, i've managed to win quite a few races in a bone stock FWD configuration Vibe, but that was more of me having local Karting races under my belt and knowing how to fuckin' D R I V E. Managed to do some 'proper' cat and mouse races for shits and giggles on the local 'mountain road' and stick to some bumpers with ease. Keep in mind though, that was with vehicles in the 120-350hp range. Pretty much came down to the driver and knowledge of the course.
If you do plan on buying one, I recommend slightly wider tires / wheels if possible, some subtle power adding mods (pretty much only for acceleration from a dig or stand still), and maybe even some refreshing on the suspension. After all that, you'd sit pretty comfortable at around 120mph.
