I only heard about Caufield, when the Habs drafted him, but after this, i started to watch him play for the Badgers, i couldn't believe the Habs, drafted this guy at #15, he was so dominant on the ice, and his size didn't matter at all.
I was so mad he kept dropping
I was ecstatic... this was without a doubt in my mind a steal and his size isn’t an issue in the playoffs which is crazy!
Yeah. He's looking pretty average in the minors right now.
@@maxmallard4904 sorry man..
Goal Caufield is the REAL DEAL..!! A NATURAL GOAL SCORER..AMAZING PERSON...A REAL STEAL..!!! GO HABS GO..!!
Yakapuv is literally the perfect example of a bust had years of time to develop and just never did. Calling a player a bust after one or two years is ridiculous and I agree people need to learn when to pump the breaks on that stuff
He should've gotten another year in the CHL
Criticism is fine. Hughes had a disappointing rookie year, but there's no way people can call him a bust right now
@@michaelkeller5927 he atleast improved in his second season with yakapov it was like constant regression season after season. I’m actually surprised he got so many chances
@@noodkiller123 yeah had a great rookie year then just fell off
@@goff38 The Oilers didn't know how to manage him, should've kept him in the minors and let him develop.
They destroyed him.
Funny to come back here and read the comments about Cole. Seems like a real coach can actually makes a difference
I am from Montreal and I can't remember that last time I was so excited to see one of our forward draft pick come into the team. Picking forwards who can score isn't our strong suit here. The last time I got excited for a draft pick, was Patrick Roy in 85/86.
Roy was picked in 84 and you didn’t cream your pants til 1993. Stop lying.
@@jogendron6320 You do know Roy won the cup in ’86 right?
Roy was drafted in the 84/85 season. Won the Calder cup in 84/85. In 1985/86 he won the Stanley Cup and was also the youngest player to win the Conn Smythe in NHL history. He also took us to the Stanley Cup finals in 1988/89. Also won the Jennings Trophy in 87,88,89. Vezina in 89 and 1990. St Patrick already had a massive hardware collection before the 1993 Stanley Cup victory.

"Trades/moves that worked when everybody thought they would fail"
Especially relevant now when a Marc Bergevin's Habs are in the final. I'll freely admit I was one of the clowns that were in the fire Bergevin camp with the Urinatingtree for the last couple years until the habs got past the third round...
UrinatingTree is bad and you shouldn't listen to their opinions.

@@americand0lphin the peeing tree man is very funny and charismatic, but people treat Tree's opinions like gospel. He's good, but he's much more informed when he talks about football. Montreal Fan here. You know I enjoyed this one 😅
This is just a comment to say how much I love this channel.
When I watched a few of your videos for the first time, I was like 'not bad, but why did this channel explode'.
Then I kept watching and without spending an hour explaining, I'll just say I realized that why this channel was amazing.
Love that you accept/encourage criticism from the community and love the diversity in content! Keep it up man. My favorite part of the day is being able to binge watch a few RTH vids.
As a Habs fan, I think the crazy thing about Cole is how fast he learns and adapts to wherever he’s playing. Seeing how well he played defensively and how he could also be a playmaker really cemented my belief that he’s a top line winger already and he can handle whatever’s thrown at him. If he can still put up goals and points against the best teams in the playoff, imagine what he can do in a full regular season?
Love the channel and the vids, man. Just found you about a week ago and I've been binging. Keep up the excellent work, bud!
Awesome video! Love the new and old feel together.
huge fan rob, you have a great channel and it is organized and well thought!
Thanks for the support 👊🏼
People are way too impatient, rob literally said hold the brakes on calling someone a bust in this video and people couldn’t wait until the season was done
I was just watching your old videos, and i saw you uploaded a new one! :)
As a flames fan it pisses me of how stupid the flames management was back then not to mention we also traded the puck that was Broduer for Trevor Kidd
Guy doesn’t shed light on the flames at all
You do realize the Flames won the Stanley Cup because of that trade, correct?
Wow, you youngsters really don't know how terrible Brett Hull's overall game was, lol..
Why does the vancouver thing seem like something benning would do?
I still have no idea why Anaheim let Theodore go just.. like that. You could see that he was right there and they weren't patient enough with pretty much their best prospect at that time.
Right? This trade still hurts me. They didn’t have enough patient enough. We had a stacked d core but losing him was rough bc we needed one even though we have Fowler, Manson and hampus. Theodore would had been the better choice
now look where we are. a tad above dumpster fire
@@les_teven As a Sharks fan, it kills me to say it but your prospect pool is way above ours and many other teams
Let me put it in some context for some of you. The ducks had just gone to game 6 with the preds while having an extremely injured squad. They believed their window was still open for at least one more year. The ducks had montour, petterson, vatanen, Manson, lindholm, and fowler. They thought montour would be the superior player so they let Theodore go for scraps. It seems stupid and the trade is stupid. If Murray hasn’t gaven NMCs like candy the ducks could’ve still had Theodore
It was to dump that Stoner contract.
Right when i seen you posted my instant reaction was lets go
Fun Fact: The Oilers were planning on drafting Ryan Murray instead of Nail Yakupov, as 11 of the 12 board members and GM agreed to draft RM. However, communication got lost to the 1 board member who wanted to draft Nail and he is the one who said "The Edmonton Oilers are so proud to select Nail Yakupov"
No, you were proud to select Nail Yakupov. No one else wanted that walking source of locker room cancer
Not that Ryan Murray is any better. For a number 1 overall, Murray is a big bust
Source?
Sam Bennett might be another huge Calgary mistake if his initial time in Florida is any indication after being traded this year. Number 4 overall pick in 2014 , and he was used as a 3rd and 4th line player by the Flames. In 10 games after joining Florida ... 6 goals , 9 assists ... and 5 points in 5 playoff games.
Not the first time a high draft pick struggled on their drafted team but finally got to show they're true potential on another team when they finally get traded. Happened to Dylan Strome when he finally got outta Arizona.
I’ll believe it when Sammy can actually put up back to back good seasons. He’s been streaky in his career so far.
I think Detroit's still happy drafting Seider over Caufield based on positional need. Pretty close though. We could certainly use that scoring. Still Caufield definitely deserved a top 5 or so look in that draft. Should not have dropped to 15.
I hope Seider pans out for Detroit fans, and I'll happily keep Caufield at 15

The Blackhawks with Philip Danault. They traded him + a second to the Habs for almost nothing.
Yup for half a season of Tomas Fleischmann and Dale Weise what a terrible mistake
Bowman just wanted to help his old colleague
Danault is insanely talented even though he doesn't shine as much because he specialized. Best defensive forward in the league. Speaking about shinning and being specialized. I hope Drouin at least come back next year. He's a smart and formidable playmaker and i bet you put him with a Caufield and 70+ assists seasons would make everyone forget he ain't that much of a shooter.
Hey you got dutch Gretzky that's a win
Bowman did the same gamble with Vermette the previous year and won the Cup. Can’t blame him for trying again.
the title and thumbnail aged well
Did his scoring not translate? Their just sending him down to the ahl so his confidence doesn’t get burnt. He’s not gonna stick.
Rob Ramage was a top 4 dman for awhile, not Brett Hull good but serviceable
Thanks for Caufield 😜🥇💪
Hey Rob
Nice video. Do you think you can do the following video idea "worst expansion teams in NHL history"?
Caufield is just like Mike Bossy, a Right handed sniper who fell to 15
I agree.
Video idea for you Rob, “Players that were picked last overall. Where are they now?”
all bums
@@djun_ hornquist lol
Caufield struggled a bunch with the Habs, but this year he’s on fire.
Great video BUT I’m going to need to point out. Rob Ramage wasn’t a bottom 6 grinder. He was one of the Blues top defenseman. This trade helped win Calgary a Stanley Cup. It was the typical prospect for proven talent trade you see near the deadline. At first it was a win for Calgary but in the long run it was a win for St Louis. Also don’t discount the impact Adam Oates had on Brett Hull. Oates could be in part 2 of this video, he was an assist machine in college then went undrafted and traded away for an established veteran in Bernie Federko.
Markus Nasland is another prospect that proves having a slow start does not project to future years. He was not very good in Pittsburg, but was much better in Vancouver. And then he slowed down again when the coach changed to a more defensive system. There's more to the formula than the prospects talent and work ethic.
It's worth revisiting Caufield since he was awful under Ducharme and has been brilliant under St. Louis - in the same season. A coach can really affect this a lot. In many ways, it's out of the player's control if a coach can have that much influence over a prospect's success.
Well, Caufield has 1 goal 24 games into first full NHL season.
Now 12 since the coaching change
When Caufield says Sean Farrell is a steal for Habs that's when you know it's good draft pick.
Teuvo, Danault, Kevin Hayes, Byfuglien
Hawks didn’t give up on any of them, just couldn’t sign for their price. Hayes just signed away from hawks too.
@@JohnDoe-ly3wx they did give up Danault and Teuvo.
@@Vanessa-bl7cp Teuvo was to get rid of the Bickell contract which was well worth it… Danault wasn’t good on the hawks so he was dealt for depth on the deadline so they could go on a cup run.
@@JohnDoe-ly3wx LOL How can you possibly say Danault wasn't good on the Hawks? He was only 22 when Chicago traded him and he was still a rookie. He hardly played for Chicago so they had no idea if Danault would be good or not. They traded Danault and a 2nd Rd pick (who turned out to be Alexander Romanov) in exchange for Dale Weise and Tomas Fleishman. This was one of the worst trades in Chicago's history. Weise scored 1 goal for them and left at the end of the season as a UFA. Fleishman retired from hockey immediately after the playoffs without doing much. It was a very one sided trade in favor of the Habs
@@albertvanular433 and danault left the habs for literally nothing, so....

Can you do worst expansion draft trades!!! Please
Theodore trade was a consequence of bad contracts. One, Clayton Stoner, was moved off the ledger as a part of the Theodore trade. Theodore had shown some regression and Montour looked like he could replace Theodore.
If 2 goals and 6 assists in 14 playoff games is regression, what was his trajectory before that?
Now do his regular season stats. Also compare Montour same playoffs... only 1 less point. In hindsight, they should've exposed Vatanen instead. But it was understandable at the time that Montour could replace Theodore.
Calgary has a history of bad trades. They also gave up Doug Gilmour, Jamie Macoun, a prospect, depth defensemen and a veteran back up goalie for a locker room cancer, an enforcer and three guys that never made it...
Hey! Jack Hughes is my friend’s friend’s cousin!
I remember yelling at the TV when the flyers drafted York over caufield with the pick right before he got taken. While York has looked alright in his very limited time in the NHL, I still am so mad that flyers didn't take caufield.
That goes with the Flyers Dna "Broad Street Bullies"
Habs didn't mind the size even though they knew they had to get bigger.
flames with hull, wow!
Oilers traded Jeff petry .......and now would love a right handed top pairing D.
God damnit
As a bruins fan there great at doing this
Tbf, say we keep hamilton, seguin, and kessel. We most likely don't have someone like marchand, or a guy like craig smith
I wasn’t paying attention and when the he said my name for the Cole Caufield bit I freaked out
I still love the Ducks, Panthers, and Wild for basically handing us a good chunk of our franchise.
Rob you could do a whole video on ex-Oilers and traded Oilers prospects that when on to be all the missing pieces we need now lmao

Jack Hughes is a good player. I think he has a strong future in the NHL
Hull is probably the greatest naturally gifted scorer ever to play. I will never understand how Calgary could give him away for virtually nothing. It wasn't exactly a secret he could score at will. Upper management must have developed some personal beef with him we will never know about because his off ice issues were never as bad as people say. His father Bobby had one hell of a career too.
@Samuel Marchand you dont know that tho...
Let’s not forget caufield was playing w Hughes before ncaa
Yeah, Caufield helped Hughes to boost his numbers. lol
Honestly I think Caufield will be more dominant offensively than Hughes
Video idea, When drafting a tall player over the best talent in the draft comes to haunt you?
I knew the Flames screwed up with St. Louis, but I did not know about that terrible decision involving Brett Hull. Wow!
I love when "small" players stick it to the doubters... Fleury, St.Louis, Gaudreau, GOAL Caufield...
The Hull Trade was lopsided but Calgary won the cup the next year. Rob Ramage "a D-Man" played quite a bit for Calgary that cup year and put up 12 pts in 20 games in the playoffs and Wamsley played 35 games for them as a backup. I think they're happy with the trade
Ok? Just imagine how much better they would've been with Hull. Could've won another cup who knows
@@applejuice2004 Who knows. Maybe, Maybe not but they got that 1 cup out of it at least
Love your videos Rob, but as a Blues fan I gotta disagree on that Hull trade being "worst trade ever" material. Sure, it was absolutely lopsided a year after, but Rob Ramage was essential to Calgary in the playoffs and basically slid into Gary Suter's spot as a top pairing defenseman and power play QB when Suter broke his jaw in the opening round against the Canucks. Who knows if they win the Cup that year without him.
I'd compare it more to a trade like Iginla for Nieuwendyk where one team that's on the cusp of a Stanley Cup gives up a future superstar for that missing piece to help push them over the top.
Sadly (as a Flyer fan) I think we might see Patrick Nolan on a list like this in the future
@Quint the Flyers seem like their gonna be a few years before they can be taken seriously. At least we have the Eagles this year who barring injuries look like their ready for a serious superbowl run!!
I wanted the Canucks to take Caufield at the draft SO bad! Podkolzin should be a decent middle six winger though, right? 😭😂
Nucks basically chose another power forward like Horvat. I wouldnt be mad at that at all. Pod fills a positional need. We kinda need more size
Looking like a 40 goal season for Caufield this year
A great steal, no doubt.
They say he has a legitimate shot at the Rocket Richard Award for Most Goals. However, I can't see that happening. He kind of of hangs around his wing and waits for another Montreal Canadiens player to dig the puck out of the corner and pass it to Cole. He'll be turning 22 yrs old on January 2nd and he's just a kid still. Let's see if he can win the Rocket Richard Award for Most Goals.

As an Anaheim Fan: Yup

Anyone remember Ryan Poehling? A hattrick in his first game. Let's not get carried away with what Caufield has done in a few games. He was -3 in last nights game. We'll see what happens in an 82 game season. Anything before that is premature.
I think Caufield has that it factor Poehling didn't really. Caufield has been elite goal scorer his whole life.
@@raurymauk We'll see how he stands up playing 82 games. He's very aware out there but he'll get caught. Just a matter of time. Once he get's caught the chances are he'll become more timid. So far he's been relatively fearless. It's a lot easier to be that way after only a few games.

The Theodore narrative is BS. I'm from Seattle and saw a lot of him as a T-Brid. Yes, he has great offense (so does/did Barrie, Karlsson and Shattenkirk) but he skated like a 12 year old in his own end. Just brutal in his defensive game.
He's worked his ass off to improve, but at the time he was not even close to a Norris candidate. His upside was as a one dimensional blueliner.
Antoine Vermette is a Stanley Cup Champion. How dare you Rob. also, he was very efficient when it came to faceoff
seeing this after the 2022 season im pretty sure the habs have their 25th cup coming with Caufield and Suzuki IF and only IF they fill the other holes like 1st D, no1 G (very soon), and a shutdown line. if they can fill these holes.....ho boy its gonna be fun. Also im pretty sure Suzuki is the next captain. why not Gallagher? just like royalty does sometimes, its gonna skip a generation ;)
I really think we're going to come to realize that Jack Hughes heavily benefitted from having Caufield, and not the other way around
You’re being delusional, both players benefitted from each other and both players will be good
@@jonathanholstein2644 no I agree, but on draft day the narrative was that Hughes was way above him and Caufield was the only one benefitting from being on a line together. It was never taken into account that Hughes had an elite sniper playing with him lol

At 8 minutes, Rob Ramage, bottom 6 grinder, lol.
Imagine if Quinn Hughes was drafted earlier than 2018 like 2013-14 and Vancouver protected loui and Brandon over him and Vegas would have Shea and Quinn imagine the d pair tho
Rob rammage was not a bottom 6 grinder He was a top 4 defenseman.
The kids played less than 30 games and his points during the regular season don't translate to him being announced as a superstar. Montreal fans are crazy and the moment one of their players does something good they're instantly dubbed a superstar. A lot of players play their best hockey in the playoffs, just look at "superstar" Maroon.
