    It does serve a purpose, it serves the purpose of getting to know every part of your and your enemies body. It serves the purpose of figuring out weaknesses and your advantages, what you can and can't do. I did Aikido for 8 years. Now I'm a boxer, still I value what my Sensei taught me a lot. To this day I find the philosophy and the movement and some of the techniques useful. Aikido is just as good as any other martial art. It serves a purpose. If you approach the wrong way it may seem dumb, but it has proven to be useful for me many times over the course of the 20 years I spent on this Earth. So bullshitting a martial art without ever trying it is shameful and ignorant. It takes a real man to be a martial artist. Learn to appreciate greatness.

    • @oldwolfxv8679
      @oldwolfxv8679 Před 13 dny +1

      The problem here is that you're just shouting into the void. In every facet of life there has to be a "ginger stepkid" that all the rest look down on, and unfortunately aikido is such in martial arts. No one will take it seriously over the flood of armchair ninjas bemoaning it.
      In videogames its the xbox series s. In drumming no one takes electronic drum kits seriously. In both cases they're perfectly viable ways to do what you want to do. But they're always going to be derided by the self appointed experts. One voice will never drown out the flood of idiots.

He was my latin teacher, I asked him a pointed question once, and he paused and asked "what does your father do?" I told him my dad was a carpenter, and he said, "ahhh I see now I find the best thinkers are people who actually have to get the work done. They actually have to deal with how the world works directly."
      That's Tyson here. He knows. He's fought. He asks the exact right question. "What is the purpose?" That's the difference between experience and theory.

    it is teaching a principle of how to use a weakness in the hand and how to break free from someone grabbing your wrist or other parts of your body. that weakness is the thumb. for instance if some grabs your wrist you twist and pull away towards the thumb try it out. it is pretty cool. now my personal opinion is aikido is not a viable martial art for a street fight but that doesn't mean someone very skilled can use its principles in other fighting techniques

    Don’t think it’s about being mugged Michael it’s about what to do when you’re in that specific situation

    For people talking about its use in a fight or in a real confrontation, the original man who did the demonstration did it as an example to demonstrate aikido and how in technique works. Its not something used in a fight, only a demonstration to showcase how the art works and why its effective, even with a major strength difference.
