- It was in essence the most ambitious production car since the McLaren F1 and in theory would go down in record books as the fastest production car ever, period. But then the age old saying "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong” would make it’s timely entrance. This is the story of the brainchild of the Al Attar Brothers, a car that was backed by a wealthy family of real estate developers, billionaires and barrels of oil, and would have became the first 300MPH capable production car, years before the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ . This is the glorious Rise and tumultuous Fall of the Devel Sixteen.

The v16 he designed was actually two ls motors fused together imagine a v16 pushrod engine that is two ls motors basically fused together I bet it was legit too but I don’t think it ever made 5000 horsepower at least not reliably

It's typical of Middle East oil babies. They're so used to the wolrd around them bending over backwards and agreeing with them when they say that grass is blue and sky is green that they can't fathom that anything would tell them "NO", provided they throw enough money at it, even if that anything was the laws of physics. Another example is "The Line" linear city project. it doesn't take a degree in civil engineering to realize it's a complete nonsensical non-starter.

Steve Morris definitely knows how to build engines. He's the only reason people took this car seriously
And the engine is 100% real and 100% made the actual 5000 hp.
If he made it today, he could make 6000 hp, maybe even 7000 hp, given the cubic inches.

Although that engine dyno video got a lot of views back in the day. Maybe that helped him become as big as he is today

Yeah but engine only makes 1k alone and its NA followed by 3 electric motors. compared to what could have been a quad turbo v16 engine. But props to Bugatti for making a v16 a reality.
but the thing is the tourbillion is a technological marvel, not just designed for 250-300+ mph.

That car in GTA Online, it;s one of the fastest cars in the game, but almost 18 years only tell us, the most probably is that the project is on development hell.

Facts, I forgot this was a thing
Heres just some bonus things that just make this whole car not what it seems:
-car has very little ventilation for a engine of its size to keep it cool, very reminiscent of the Trion Nemesis in this aspect
-interior is identical to that of a c8 (partially mentioned in video)
-only 1 v16 was made and Steve Morris has been doing anything but building more of then (his channel is proof of this)
-added wing which would only slow the car down, not ideal if you were making a car that is supposed to break speed records, car also doesnt look particularly aerodynamic
-apparently weighs over 2300kg/5200lbs. Its 16% heavier than a bugatti chiron.
-Poor build quality, earlier versions such as the one originally shown off had panels fall off the car on camera (referring to shmee150 video)
-Previous iteration between the debut version and the c8 rebody had a extremely cheap and dated interior.
-Never tested by actual car review channels or given to publications to review (SB is not exactly the most indepth of channels)
-shotty film work on the official channel, thumbnails having peoples fingers in the shot, low quality, unprofessional content)
-highest speed achieved so far in testing is 186mph, which is actually SLOWER than the claimed base model c8 topspeed.
-car has very little room for radiators to help further cool said v16 or even v8 engine.
-emissions?

add on top of the cooling the engine is making 5,000hp. there's a saying i heard once in racing "cooling is how much power you want to make and for how long."
Weight actually doesn’t matter much for top speed if you have a ton of power. The fastest land vehicle weighs 100 tons but it makes 100,000 horsepower and still reached a speed of just under 800 miles per hour.
@@chabweezy9905 yeah, that being said, you strap 2 jet engines to anything, it will be fast. The McLaren F1 was so fast, because it was light and aerodynamic. Not because it had a lot of power (pro tuners back then were pushing 900+hp on 2JZ engines). Another example would be the Ruf CTR. It only had around 470hp, but could reach 210mph. The Veyron needed so much power, compared to the F1, because it weighed like 1350lbs more.
The moment I saw 5000 hp I knew the devel was in the details.

What's also funny is that you never needed 5000hp to reach 300mph. Bugatti did it with just 1600hp in the Chiron SS.

I just laugh because the only Devel Sixteen that has ever been delivered literally had a V8 😂
Now imagine a modern Steve Morris V16 being his v8 smx can get the 5k horsepower
the smx isnt just a v8 it is a 9.7L billet big block made to make the power while being able to do drag and drives. But as we have seen size isn't everything because all the smx cars have been getting beat and out lasted by a factory block coyote in a s197 mustang called snot rocket and it ru n s 6.3 in the 1/4 a number even mullet and some promods haven't hit with the smx. Now most ppl are pulling their LS swaps and jumping ship from chevy and dodge to go fast when they see that stock sealed coyote mustangs and f150s run 7s (mustang gt) 8s f150 in tge 1/4 mile needing boost and fuel. and factory computer and built factory trans. with no aftermarket billit blocks being made ppl are pushing factory blocks into the 6s and 5s with light card. if steaveorris started building a SM billet coyote now game over for most engine swaps. when snot rocket was owned by its previous owner joel steele it started life as a s197 boss mustang he street raved and drove to work and eventually it became the first domestic h pattern stick car in the 6s in the 1/4 a few years back. he was competitive against billet block 2jz drag supras that jad to swap motors after runs and he was running 6.7 before he sold tge shell to Brett lasala and now it does what it does
There *are* LS V16s in existence, but they're aimed at boat racing, and would never, *ever* be practical in a land setting, boats are generally on a whole other level.
@@carculturenation2166 well all that just proves how good the Coyote engine is and not that the SMX isn't competitive. You're comment that it doesn't last probably stems from Mullet's engine, a used engine that saw many miles. It was a 6 year old engine. I don't follow all the racing stuff, but I'm sure by percentage, there's more broken Coyotes than SMX engines. You see a couple of SMX engines failing and you think it won't last. They're making so much power and being pushed to it's limits, of course stuff is going to break.

I remember reading that vector had like 600 horses in the late eighties, which was a lot up to the mid-90s.
Motorsports and the extreme top end of the car market, provide the means to keep advancing our understanding and ahcievements in vehicle design and technology. We need people to buy Million £ cars. We need people to involved in Motorsports at every level - it's pushing our technology forward. A point that's sorely overlooked, for the more base-level of appreciation of, 'cause it's fast'.

@MisterScalper have they done a top speed run on it cause last I heard it did like 226mph but no one has ever put longer gears on it to see if it can break the 240 record

I used to follow the Devel 16 story for a bit, from my limited knowledge this video right here is the most in depth video on the Devel 16, my only criticisim is that the cars interior wasn't mentioned (it's literally just a C8 Corvette interior)

There's plenty of pro mods making 3000+ ft lbs running a 2 and 3 speed trans, you don't need a top fuel style trans for something like this.
This kind of crap happens when marketing decides without asking engineers about it.
I KNEW that this car would never come out. The tire technology just isn't there to handle that type of power without turning the tires into shredded cheese. I knew it was doomed from the start.

I had the pleasure of running into Steve Morris at the Meijer In Norton Shores MI. At the time, I had no clue who he was. I just heard and then saw the wagon, which is out of control. I ended up in his video by accident.

like the Vectors, i love the look of the body style but it is a shame that only like 12 were made, and their performance didn't quite live up to the hype.
However creating something with such extreme performance is very difficult, so of course there will be failures and flops.
Atleast vectors are real right? But the poor management and insufficient money stops them all to build the supercar
And the other reason why they stopped is because they were new manufacturer and W8 is 2X the price of countach, while people are preferred that piece of italian box dubbed "legend of 80s"
To be fair to the Vector, the early test cars weren’t ready & were released early with stipulations to deal with that. McEnroe, the famous tennis player, took one of them to show off to his friends & Vector warned him about not pushing it too hard before they could complete final assembly. What’d he do? Completely destroyed it, doing everything they told him not to, & prompting him to pull out of the deal very publicly, which severely impacted Vector’s reputation. It might have had its share of problems anyways, but due to them wanting to get them in the public eye early, they caused their own downfall. Still a badass car that managed to do ~220 which was crazy for the time.
