I feel like everyone was so distracted by all the other crazy stuff on Ikoria that we somehow overlooked a 4 mana 3/5 double striker with upside.
Just like we did the 5 mana 6/6 Flampler with upside.

@@misterymo You know you can mutate onto it, do you? You can run it out for 5 and mutate onto it later. And upside is still upside.

I really appreciate that you show the cards that you mention that isn't in the deck.
LVD does this too, i think its a good practice, but takes time while producing the video.

@@AbsurdHeroine I was a big fan of Merchant until he spent several weeks recently encouraging his more mindless fans to essentially spam comments to drive up his stats. Since I really enjoy actually seeing what people are saying in comments, this basically made his channel go from "favorite daily visit" to extremely frustrating and ultimately not worth visiting anymore.
This is first vid I've seen of yours but I liked the deck and your style, and you seem to have REALLY nice production values for such a relatively new channel! Will probably check out some more and be back again :)

"I am not a mythic player...yet." I felt that. My jank can never get past gold, let alone make it anywhere near mythic 😖😅
the way is to build tier 1 deck, go to diamond at least and then start playing janky decks. This way i was able to go from Silver to Diamond in one day using Rakdos Sacrifice and then proceeded to play Janky decks that no one was ready for. Look at Mogwai he played some really weird decks in Mythic and won thanks to being different from meta.
Witty That's odd... It's almost like WotC is rigging the matchmaking, shuffler, and encouraging Mono-Red and mindless control.
I was like, "First time playing MTG and I just made it to Plat using Mono Red..." Then I read Anayos' comment.. xD
@@Mrverybusinessman it's alright. We've all started somewhere. My first deck was a hedron crab mono blue mill with no other win condition except hoping my opponent couldn't draw cards

Wish I could say the same, I'm not seeing anything other than mono red Anax Torbran Cleave, Jeskai Fires or Simic flash 🤧
the day Ikoria released I dropped 40 on it for the mastery pass and a bunch of packs... needless to say I the players were not ready for a small fox to turn into a 9/10 flyer with doube strike and lifelink in less than 3 turns.

I was toying around with a tweak for the Marauding Raptor and had an idea. Maybe Knight of the Ebon Legion would work in that slot? It's a lower casting cost, gives you a way to pump it and give it deathtouch (the latter being mostly unnecessary), but also gives itself a way to add +1/+1 counters to itself......and it's a great Mutate target! That, or the other ones I was thinking was maybe Zagoth Mamba or Gingerbrute?

I have been waiting for someone to utilize Marauding Raptor into making mutates cheaper. Glad someone discovered the same deck tech I had!

Mutate was the mechanic I was most interested in, W/R aren't colors I normally play. So to see this got me interested in splashing white into my golgari mutate deck since I tend to struggle with flying. Though I need to earn more so I can craft things to deal with flying.

I made a similar deck with Fiend Artisan, which is an absolutely brutal mutate target for Snapdax. Virtually the entire deck is creatures so it grows quickly and, by the time you have 5 creatures in the graveyard, your Snapdax mutates down as an 8/10 double strike that murders one of their blockers and attacks that turn.
Love the deck I actually made a mardu mutate with kaheera which has been interesting to say the least. I want to try that 1R dino bc kaheera allows it! 🔥

the player being in the bottom right with greenscreen in the back is so much nicer, CGB should take note
I love the mechanic. Did not have many interessting matches so far (evveryone is only playing their meta decks from last season), but I am sure there will be some great jank decks ahead.
I genuinely haven't gone up against a single opponent using any of the new cards, I just keep running into mono red BS, simic flash grossness (without any of the new flash cards) and jeskai fires... I'm considering not playing for a week or so until people stop playing their boring ass meta decks from the previous sets, it's no fun at all.
@@katashiclouds514 There are 2 new decks that I face quite often: Jeskai Winota and Dimir flash (even more painful than Simic!)

40:20 attack with snap too, if he trades for questing, you mutate the snapdax in ur hand onto the bat killing two more of his remaining creatures. You also heal six from the ds and 4 from mutate
Again on 42:40 block q beast with snap, kill it with 1 dmg from butcher :p
I love the new cycling monsters. I made a deck around cycling a monster & blood for bones to play it for 4 & sak a small human or zombie
My God I love Mardu, atleast 70% of my decks is Mardu, so many different combos and trickeries
I like how volpakeet rolls off her tongue..i have it in my white weenie enchantment deck..flying, lifelink, counters, damage oh my!!!
Lukka, coppercoat outcast's -2 ability is awesome. Turn your bland 1/1 or 0/4 tokens into your best creatures without having to wait to draw them.
Yep I was really excited for Lukka when he was spoiled because he's such a cool planeswalker but wow am I already tired of seeing people use him to spam out Agent of Treachery's from their 0/4 wall or 1/1 devil. Trust the majority of the MTG community to only want to use cool cards for degenerate combos. Literally how many new decks have you gone up against that AREN'T abusing Agent of Treachery in a new way?
A great 3 drop is the flying goat thingy that gets counters when it takes non-combat damage. Amazing synergy with raptor so it's a 2 mana 3/5 flyer or a 1 mana 5/7 if you have 2 raptors out, etc.

Hi! I just discovered your channel yesterday with your Quartzwood Crasher trample tribal deck (fun!) but as I'm trying to build around the mutate mechanic post rotation I'm much more interested in this video, I'm trying a temur build around Illuna and Uro but I haven't found the perfect 75 yet. Will you try something like that in the next future? Anyway, keep the great work going!

I've been running a similar build with Stormwild Capridor. With Raptor on the field, you instantly create a 3/5 flyer for 2. Also, it withstands lethal from things such as lava coil AS WELL AS things like Kogla. My 3/5 instantly became a 9/11. I'd be happy to share my build.
This deck rocks!! Snapdax is my fave card of Ikoria, probably because I pulled it and Ultimatum in my first sealed Arena for Ikoria and it took me 7-1!! Anyway, wanted to get your feelings on Tin Street Dodger-Cubwarden-Snapdax. You get an unlockable double striking lifelinker! I was trying to find a way to make Majestic Auricorn to work in here because I pulled 2 in my sealed and the Vigilence worked well with Snapdax but might be weak for constructed. Your list here is super close to what I came up with for Mardu but I have running 4 Dodgers.
I think dodger is a fine replacement for Healers Hawk. I just like the lifelink on top of evasion, but if you want guaranteed evasion then dodger is the pick. You might actually want to go Gingerbrute since it doesn't have any mana restrictions (and you can eat it >:).

So I took out my black snakes that give -2/-2 when mutated whose name is currently escaping me at the moment, which was originally what I included in my list for your Dreadhorde Butchers. I threw in some butchers, I had 4 Dodgers in my deck where you had Raptors, so I split those after several consecutive games that were closer then they needed to be (using your list) because I had to cast Raptor to have a blocker on the table or some kind of threat down or even more material for Snap, Bat, or Warden. The next several games went much better and I found that I liked Raptor-Warden combo for life gain ALOT! Also allowed me to get more Hawks, Butchers and Dodgers landed before Raptor locks them down. A friend of mine came up with a very similar decklist after playing Ikoria online too. I guess Snap, Vulpikeet, Bat, Warden and Leosaur are obvious partners. She included only 2 Cubwardens but only because she ran out of rare wild cards.

Also, it pairs well with Storm's Wrath. Boardwipe + a 5/7 flyer
I think velpukeet is one of if not the best common card this set.

I don't know how well Maurading Raptor works in this deck. It seems to cause about as many problems as it aims to solve. Awesome deck, though!
I agree, but everything else cost 1 less to cast, that's the price to pay I guess
Kind of surprised you don't have lurrus as a mutate option to add some graveyard recursion to get butcher or marauder back after a board wipe, also might work on lands as well
On the jank side of things, Krenko is pretty fun with mutate! No combo with the dino though.
But the real question - what's the whisky weapon of choice? Great content, keep it up!

Really cool deck - did you consider running Zagoth Mamba ? It would add another 1-drop to the deck that doubles as decent creature removal.
I think this is the basis of a good deck, and I hope so mutch to be true.
Dreadhorde + the +20/+20 giant 7 mana buff + a sacrifice effect (oven or the black escape creature) is pretty bonkers xP but not until t7 with some setup i guess
Interesting idea, you can do it by turn 4 by milling the enchantment and using storm herald to attach it to butcher.
I've found running atheros hound is also good in the deck. It has vigilance menace and lifelink
Nice deck as always but Marauding Raptor seems kinda bad to me. It kills Healers Hawk,Butcher,Leosaur and Vulpikeet if you play them after Raptor. It also kills lifelinkers from Cubwarden.

Wonder how long it took you to select those particular cards to work so well together. Seeing all those cards just gets me overwhelmed and I struggle to choose the best possible card for my deck strat. Been experimenting with a Aristocrats Revival deck (assuming Aristocrats refers to pinging your opponent with amounts of damage over time") my trifecta of choice is Nethroi, Apex of Death, Ser Konrad, and Corpse Knight. Had a couple of interesting wins, but probably to jank for ladder.
Looks fun! Lukka is card advantage, but is he overly costly for that in this deck?
Haven’t really looked at the new set too much but it seems to be very creature heavy with the mutate mechanic. How do you think Control decks will fare, like Azorious Control and what not?
I don't know about straight up control decks, but I'm pretty sure Simic and/or Dimir flash will be T1 in the meta.

I've been brainstorming a mutate deck for a bit now, after crushing a draft I had with mutate. I'm curious as to why Kunoros isn't here
Have you considered a show where you tweak decks made by viewers? I'm terrible at making new decks, but I can usually tweak a netdeck for me.
I think a better title would be Mardu-tate or Mardutate personally. Love the content though keep it up.

Nice deck... does anyone else feel like there are a lot of broken combos with Ikoria? Like abusing Gyruda and Winota (I hate that card)? But still... I love the monsters... especially with the godzilla art. Mutate is a lot of fun but kinda has similar weaknesses as enchantments.

Its a bit like merchant, except you don't make mistakes half as often as he does... cause he really makes a lot during videos.

This deck need 1 copy of Yidaro, Wandering Monster so you can transform one of your 4 drops into an 8/8 with haste and trample using Lukka's -2.
