- Little known fact: if you mix Truefire Champion and Purphoros's Intervention, you get a 2x Fireball directly to the face. Alternatively, we give the Champion indestructible and just straight up spam burn it.

Found your channel recently, when youtube's magic algorith decided to recommend me Enigmatic Etrata deck. It was my favourite of your vids so far. When it comes to this deck, i've been destroyed by a similar one when they casted Gideon's Sacrifice on their truefire
Oh man, that card almost made the deck, but it's just too situational. All the stars need to align. I would've loved to see it happen.
I have to admit, i was pretty salty, especially since i didn't even remember this card existed. Looking back tho, i have to admit, it was pretty cool
@@ironlight2689 Yeah I hear ya, but the silver lining is the discovery of a cool combo. That and the pleasure from knowing that people are playing more than copy-paste UW control or RDW.

I'm commenting this before I've even gotten into the gameplay, but I gotta say, I LOVE this deck. I've never seen this played by anyone but you and I adore it. I love combo decks and this one excites me.
Oh this is so heart warming, I tried to make this deck(ideologically) to work two expansions ago, but it just was not really there. Now, to stumble across it, the most amazing feeling! You were very enjoyable to observe. Keep up the janky decks and have fun!

Truefire Captain with Star of Extinction would be fun to play in Historic

I used to run both Truefire and Star in a gates deck b4 rotation... was pretty fun when it worked.
I know merchant MTG has a deck over this
It is fun. It's not really that common so a lot people don't really expect it when it happens.

Nice to see creative decks for a change. I used to host a challenge to myself where I would ask someone to name any card they want (any legal card), and I would attempt to build a deck with that card being the main focus or purpose of the deck. I enjoy finding ways to use cards other people ignore or deem as "unplayable". I recently built a deck with Shimmerwing Chimera where I would use it to bounce ETB enchantments, specifically Sagas. The Chimera tends to die almost instantly, but the deck seems to work fairly nicely. I also use Treacherous Blessings in that too, since the bounce target just kills the enchantment.

Could even use 1-2 Gideon's Sacrifice in this deck as well. They attack in and you redirect all damage to your Truefire Captain
I feel like that would be better then say fry, for example, which is in a lot of cases a pretty dead card. That would make it interesting having some boardwipes in the deck too, which are always good to have and would make for a one shot combo with no need of indestructibility given enough creatures to redirect damage from.
Oh, even shocklands could have the damage redirected, that's kinda hilarious xD
@@Suppaichu I was missing 3 rares to copy the deck so i subbed in 1 Gideon's Sacrifice and 2 Storm's Wrath, finally landed that particular combo for 16 "truefire" dmg (+ a bunch of pings from opp's Midnight Reaper, + only one chumper left for a 4x4 power swing)

also got a pretty satisfying win against a cavalcade deck by casting G's Sacrifice on their lethal swing :feelsgoodman:
@@Suppaichu I think the argument is, Gideon's sacrifice ONLY works if opponent is set up to big-blast you, which does happen for many decks but would never happen for like mill, whereas worst case you can still Fry your Truefire Captains.

Love that you highlight cards that you weren't sure of like the ironkrag feat. Also i have the same mental gap during speaking, brain farts are fun. Always love the intended word just disappearing mid sentence. It's like my brain decided it was time to think about something else.

I found your channel recently and I like your decks, good ideas. I would change few things on this deck but still its awesome.
One of the best things about magic is you can take other players' ideas and really make them your own. Do what you think is best!

I recently made a gates jank deck with Truefire, Brash Taunter, and el capridor. Also, the archway angel for lifegain and vito for the possible one shot off the angel. It's pretty fun. Gates ablaze with my 5 creatures and 10 lands does some wicked damage with Gideon's Sacrifice on my taunter

Awesome jank, the new goblin in m21 might work as an alternate to the captain but he's quite expensive at five cost.
32:40 - Not entirely sure how it'd turn out, but an alternate play would be to use Purphoros to burn the blocking Archon, then attack with Gideon, and then use Charming Prince to exile Gideon.
If that works, he'd return with full loyalty right? So that he'd survive the remaining Archon's attack next turn.
Yeah I do think that flickering Gids was the right play. Playing against those Archons was a first for me. I made a few mistakes.

I love some JaNk DeCkS! Have you thought about replacing some of your "less efficient" cards with red pump that can target an opponents creature? Ex: Infuriate, can be used as normal or to throw at the big green thing already stopping toward your Captain. Edit: I forgot about justice strike so pump your captain then post combat justice strike your captain.
Reminds me of my boros deck with spitemare, boros reckonner, blasphemous act and shivan meteor, man those 13 damage to the face turn five feals so good

Fun deck, but try to put a gideon sacrifice together with the truefire captain..... I did and it had the same effect.... good to deal with huge green creatures... they knock themselves out.

I was surprised no gideons sacrifice to showed up. There something special when mono red dies to their own embercleave attack.
This looks like another fun deck. I doubt I have the cards but I am going to try and see. I used up a bunch of wildcards yesterday so that won't work. But, when I am able to do this I will.

Thanks for a few ideas. I did get an idea for a deck here. It's a variation on this but uses a few big creatures and fling. :P
I made a similar deck as this last rotation before theros but I went for solar blaze that deals damage to all creatures then using Gideon's sacrifice make all the damage go to true fire champion and all their creatures die you lose true fire but you also deal damage equal to ask your creatures power to their face then you get to attack after that.

Made a deck similar to this except I use gideon's sacrifice in stead of redcap. Super fun but I feel like its a one trick pony once you use your trick. Fun deck though, thank you for sharing!

Hey just found your channel. Not sure if you take suggestions, but could I interest you in my Gruul build? There's a video of an older version on my channel but the basic idea is turn 1 anything, turn 2 Thrill of Possibility discarding Feasting Troll King, turn 3 Giant Opportunity bringing back the Troll King and setting up for a turn 4 The Great Henge.
I've also gotten a turn 3 Henge by turn 1 Gilded Goose, turn 2 Dreadhorde Arcanist, Turn 3 Collision/Colossus on Arcanist, attacking to cast it again, swinging for 9 trample and then using the goose egg and the leftover forest to cast Henge.
I call the deck "Gruul Beans"
The new Brash taunter from m21 could replace true fire captain, and it would already come with indestructible!

Have you thought about tinkering with Giant Killer or Alseid of Life's Bounty in place of the doggo? I feel like they can be more flexible than what the dog offers.
I haven't, but I'd probably run Alseid because of it's synergy with Taranika. Those are both good replacements though.
Alseid of Life's Bounty gives protection, meaning that a given can't taget it nor could it deal damage to it. So how would it replace the dog? What do you think to use Giant Killer for? When you destroy a creature you don not deal damage to it, therefore Truefires Champoins ability does not trigger.
@@TheBANDRIS At the end of the video I mention that the pupper never performed well as a set-up for Champion, so slotting in something else could be more valuable. Like any non-defender creature so it could benefit from Gideon and Taranika on the field. Alseid, while not giving indestructible, does protect our combo pieces, and Giant Killer is good removal and/or defense. So these are other options you could go with.
