For a bit of context, the long running theory about Chi-Chi was that she was so traumatized from watching the Goku vs Piccolo fight that she didn't want the same to happen to Gohan and Goten
And people say that she was annoying for that reason (which I do get ofc), when really she had an understandable point of doing what she did to her kids.
@@SpacialRend7 I haven't read the manga, but I've heard people say that she's much more annoying in the anime because they give her scenes that completely overblow the "strict Asian parent stereotype" and have her say things like "Gohan studying is more important than the fate of the world"
People are always forgetting that Chi-Chi is not and was never a hardass like that. It was Gohans dream all along to become a scholar. She just helped him focus and steering him towards it. Ofcourse she didn't want to send him to Cell but neither did Piccolo. She even trained Goten because he wanted it, though she found out quickly she can't offer him much
@@NorwegianNoLife she only trained Goten because she started to have a little bit of change after Goku’s dead in Cell Games and she also agreed to sent Gohan taking part of the world martial arts tournament. Even though that was about money but she still praised both her sons

Goku not only beat Piccolo to win the martial arts tournament, but he was smart enough to realize that Kami's death would mean the end of the Earth's dragonballs.

Yes, in the original DB Goku made a big leap into a mature intelligence after the training years with Kami. And in Super, his intelligence went straight down the toilet just for a few laughs

This singular moment is why I laugh in the face of anyone who tells me that Goku was always a stupid character. He literally figured out something that Bulma, Roshi, Tien and everyone else couldn't

@@jerr0. Not true. Popo tells Goku that Kami will die if Piccolo dies. He says nothing about the dragon balls. Goku during the battle hesitates to hit Piccolo with the mega kamehameha but is relieved when he hears that the dragon balls can be used to restore Kami. So no, this wasn't told to Goku, he figured it out himself
Yea because none of the others knew who Kami was except for Goku who trained with him for multiple years.

Its the first time I saw this in english. In german it is explained how Goku could survive without beeing able to move. When he appeard at the sky everyone is screaming in disbelieve 'Son Goku can fly!' So Goku learned to fly but was holding back the ability as a surprise. Which worked out perfectly in this fight.🔥
This is one of my favorite chapters, because it is the pinnacle of Goku's character development. Everything that defines him is reflected here: His nobility, intelligence, innocence, compassion, humility and his love for martial arts and never stop trying to get better and better. Goku, you're the Number One.
The last episodes are a filler arc that leads up to Goku and Chichi's wedding.

In the original, the Japanese, when it is revealed Goku had survived and came rocketing at Junior, everyone shouted exactly what Goku did to get up there. He flew. After spending the entire tournament doing every thing he could to hide that he can use the flying technique like the others that whole time. This being his trump card like it was for Tien was clearly lost on Funimation's dub.
Yeah I'm kinda mad of that change, 9:13 in sub they said " He's using the flying technique!!" and they changed it to a simple "Do it Goku!" Changing the whole context of why they were impressed and shouting. This dub is way better than og dbz for sure but still makes some weird changes like this one
@@soyakat I'd say the dub is worse. It's so blatantly inconsistent, you don't need the original to see where the plot holes Funimation created starts and never ends. There's so much STUPID, you can hear the double O's. So much it's embarrassing, even as a kid to talk about. And that's not mentioning, it babies up so much even after being permanently slotted in the "big kid" slot among so many other things.

he could do that from the very beginning seriously goku was always a step ahead of piccolo if it wasn't for the wound in his shoulder that came from a suprise attack piccolo never had a chance of winning
Goku actually lost the "tournament" part of this fight. He was down for way longer then 10 seconds, and the dubs changes it but when Piccolo was zapping Goku's arm he made reference to how his father made the mistake of leaving Goku one working arm and he wouldn't make that mistake.
I think when Piccolo is down and the ref didn't realized to count (until Goku call him)... the overall time is much more than 10 seconds.
Definitely watch the final few episodes, they’re worth it, also glad you enjoyed the OG series 🔥

Idk if you noticed but, Goku dodging Piccolo's final attack and coming in for that head butt was one of the first times he showcased flight in the whole series! Well, at least in the manga because the anime version shows it a few times before this in the previous matches.

Interesting to hear a different language version of the end of the fight. In our dub, it seemed like pure calculation from Goku to hit Piccolo head on, because he said "Hey, Referee... where he lies, he lies outside of the ring."
could've just not worried about that and made it so that piccolo was out by being knocked unconscious but toriyama works in mysterious ways

Pretty sure if Tien, Yamcha, and Krillin jumped Piccolo(especially at this point in the fight) they could've taken him. The gap in their power levels is nowhere as much as it has between Goku and Piccolo and Raditz.
I think they got a good chance to kill Piccolo if Kami also join in.

Knowing what we know now, Goku probably got a big power boost when he ate the bean and he'd be vastly superior to Piccolo. If the fight started again, Piccolo would be completely outclassed and humiliated.
