The rule where a reciver catches the ball, in the air in bounds, and gets pushed out of bounds by the defense without placing his feet in bounds, was INSANE. The Nfl mercifully changed that rule. Now the player has to have both feet in bounds

A few rules from the CFL that the NFL should look at:
    - forward motion by receivers before the snap. Just more fun.
    - no fair catches on punts, but you need to give the returner a full five yard buffer. More returns with fewer injuries.
    - making the ‘throw the flag’ motion or demonstratively asking for a call is a penalty. It just looks tacky.
    - clock stops after every play to reset the ball inside three minutes in a half, like college first downs. Less time wasted on spikes and more time for set plays.
    - if the ball is set before time expires, you can still run a play after the clock hits zero. It lets the offense get off a better play at the end of a game.

I know (at least as of a few years ago) one of the most tenured refs in the NBA had an ongoing beef with a specific player, which resulted in significantly less production from that player whenever this ref was involved. But the NBA didnt give a shit and kept assigning this ref to this player’s games.
Generally during an NFL game, theres going to be one or two calls I disagree with the refs on, maybe on egregious miss. Basketball feels like every single foul is either ridiculously soft or outright incorrect.

The "Casper rule", where a fumble in the last two minutes can only be recovered by the fumbler himself, should go. It was prompted by the infamous 1978 play in the Raiders-Chargers game. Stabler obviously made a forward pass, Banaszak also shoveled the ball forward, Casper did nothing wrong but gets the rule named after him. Just call the play properly in the first place!

    • @freezer8530
      @freezer8530 Před měsícem

On the contrary, I think that rule should be applied on all plays (all downs) at any time during the game, but then only on forward fumbles recovered by a teammate beyond the line of scrimmage. If it's a backward fumble anywhere on the field, then it should be treated as a lateral (backward) pass. If the fumble and teammate recovery all take place behind the line of scrimmage, then play should be allowed to continue. If a forward fumble from behind the line is caught in midair by an eligible teammate beyond the line, then there should be some consideration for treating that as a completed forward pass; if otherwise recovered beyond the line after touching the ground, then treat that an incomplete forward pass, returning the ball to the previous spot.

When the XFL started, it really had that WWE quality of crazy roughness. But it was just bad football. The revamped XFL wasn’t too bad, but the good parts of the craziness were taken out.
The USFL on the other hand felt like bad football being played by college players who never could make it to the pros.
So for this year with the merger to the UFL, I gave it a shot. But really I wanted to see what the kick off the NFL was switching to would look like. The NFL has been tweaking the kickoff for so long in the name of player safety. They did everything they could, without banning it, to stop kick returns from happening. Moving the kickoff spot up. Increasing the touchback distance. Followed by the fair catch rule.
Then I watch my first UFL game and they have a normal kickoff set up, only from their own 20-yard line to encourage kick returns. Like the NFL is trying to stop it yo prevent injuries and the UFL is going in the opposite direction to increase injuries.

I liked moving the EP back to the 15, it made that play we see over and over a little more interesting, adding more intrigue and making penalties a bigger deal on EPs.
As far as the hip drop tackle, I love the intent behind it, banning a tackling style that has a higher risk of breaking the ball carrier's legs is a smart move. How they implement the change will decide if it's a sucessful change. It could be one of those that's great on paper but not in practice.

Like when an airliner is at a certain point in the takeoff roll they are considered committed to the takeoff, And in some ways when the defender is a few steps from the QB they should be by rules considered committed to the tackle.

The real worst rule in NFL history was the Rozelle Rule. The general weakness of the NFLPA and corresponding corporate nature of the NFL can be directly attributed to the implementation of the Rozelle Rule, which was the “compromise” where instead of actual free agency for players they could instead demand a trade…but the team giving up the player got back whatever compensation the commissioner thought was appropriate. In effect, players had the appearance of freedom while actually tied to their teams in an even more intricate manner than before.
While the Rozelle Rule was ostensibly voided for being in violation of antitrust laws, it still exists in the form of restricted free agency and franchise tags.

I've never understood why the ball carrier can commit a flagrant personal foul on the tackler. If the tackler punched the ball carrier's head it would be a 15 yarder and possible ejection from the game. Supposedly the arm is supposed to be "stiff", but why has the thrusting arm never been called when it happens almost every time?
And lose the tush push or let the defense do it on their side. How obvious is that? I'd rather watch a 2 yard extra point as see that sadness on third and one.

In regards to taunting, I think it was implemented by parents because they don't want their children seeing this and then implementing it in youth leagues. There's a bit of an image to uphold when being broadcast to millions of people.
I like the new Extra Point rules. If the Extra Point was supposed to be a guarantee then just get rid of it all together and make a TD 7 pts (unless a team wanted to go for 2pts). I do like how the XFL does Extra Points with 1, 2, 3 from different yard lines. Helps keep things competitive and allows a team from behind to potentially catch up.
I also like the XFL Kickoffs because they are actually Kickoffs instead of touchbacks. Once again, if all the Kickoffs are meant to be touchbacks then just eliminate Kickoffs unless if a team plans to declare an Onside Kick.
Another rule that I think should be added to the list is the "running clock" in the last two minutes of the half/game. In some instances, those last two minutes are pointless if the winning team has the ball. I think they should adopt college rules (or XFL) where the clock briefly stops on First Downs.

Wait, no mention of the rule where the home team is penalized if their fans were too loud? As for the Tuck Rule, there was a game in 2008 between the Cardinals and Cowboys when Tony Romo was in the end zone and going to throw but he was going to be hit and he brought the ball back while turning his back to the defender and the ball came out. They ruled it a tuck play but what's forgotten is when he dropped the ball he was facing the back of the endzone which means it should have been ruled a backward pass hence when the Cards recovered it should have been a TD but its the Cowboys, so...

Shit talking has always been a part of the game. The whole trick with it used to be doing it in a way that DIDN’T draw attention to yourself but did get inside your opponents head. It was all part of the give and take of the game. Unless you were a little crazy, it never went off the field and you knew not to get super nasty with it. But comments about your mama, your sister or your girlfriend….ohhhh it was on.
As a defensive back, one of my favorites was just after a receiver either dropped a pass or let one go through his hands. Just a real quick “Don’t ask how I know, but your girl’s got a better grip than that.”

    Atricle 7 paragraph 12.
"There can only be one single dominant team in the afc. That team will be allowed to win unprecedented amount of superbowls.
If said afc team is eliminated from the superbowl, we must try our best to not allow another afc team to win said superbowl, we must make a concentrated effort to allow the nfc team to win in such a situation."
Now they fucked up a little with the patriots. Allowing the ravens, steelers, and colts, to get one, but you can BET your ASS that aint happening with the cheifs.
If the cheifs arent in the superbowl next year. Bet on the nfc team

The responsibility of player safety should be distributed equally between offense and defense. If safety is so fucking important, then where's the rule that says a ball carrier can't resist or push through a tackle attempt? Where's the rule that says ball carriers have to go down, upon contact from the defensive player, so that the potential injury percentage is decreased?
We all agree we don't want to see people get injured, but it's part of the game. These rules that handcuff defensive players will result in injuries to the defensive players. Trying to adjust your position in milliseconds while resisting the force the offensive players create and fight against the momentum of the contact is extremely hard to do and dangerous to attempt.
Intent needs to be a baseline for these penalties, not the method of the take down. Anyone defending all these rules against the defense needs to understand how one sided these rules are. They only protect the offense and increase the potential for injuries for the defense. It's bullshit.

I feel like it was NOT a catch, (I feel like the catch must be complete through the ground, otherwise its not a catch, endzone or no endzone) but he DID get screwed because Ive seen it called a catch countless times under the same circumstances.

I totally and completely disagree that being able to challenge pass interference is a bad rule. Any rule should be challengeable. Teams are limited to how many challenges they have and they are penalized for a lost challenge, so let the coaches decide what they want to risk a challenge on. Like was said in the video if it is not worth it coaches will learn to save those challenges for something that is worth it. The NFL should stop limiting what a coach can challenge. Let the already built in deterrents stop unnecessary challenges.

  • @ViktorTheButcher
    @ViktorTheButcher Před měsícem

There is a reason why you get these NFL = rigged/scripted shit. Not even for the existence of these rules, but rather what these refs do with it and the fact these rules have ridiculous penalties. 15 yard penalties with automatic first downs shouldn't even be possible on non extremely or even non violent infringements where there is a clearly subjective judgement from a referee. The field is 100 yards, so that would mean at least 15% of the field on one referee call. Who are the ones to supposedly cross that field, the players or the referees?
That whole PI challenge rule is for me the ultimate example the refs are there only for their own ego. They don't care about the sport, they want it to be about themselves. It's not American football, it's American refball. They have absolutely zero accountability. I have seen games with PI decisions that were ''there is no way this is not getting overturned'' from NFL rules experts and guess what: it still didn't got overturned, because refs don't have any self awareness about their mistakes.
Also, I am really weirded out by the fact a sport with the top 1% of athletically gifted people on Earth as players with the field dimensions of the NFL the refs are filled with unathletic dadbod boomers. Like, watch some major European football matches on similar field sizes and none of the NFL refs with zero physical fitness and weakened eye sight would even make those leagues as a referee. These leagues used to have a harsh age limit of 45. That has become a soft cap, but the other fitness demands still are there. And those matches are finished in usually under 2 hours, not taking over 3 hours on average.

My biggest concern with the hip drop rule was the NFL included an everyday, blindside sack in the examples of what is now illegal. So any tackle from behind is going to be called. It's going to be a shit show. They aren't going to care if you're grabbing the hips to gain leverage to launch yourself into the legs, which is extremely dangerous, and instead call any contact to the back of the legs. Shit. Show.
