Johnny Manziel cam from money. But he never seemed to stop talking about it. This is the story of the most overhyped QB in NFL history.

While overhyped, the Browns did honor him after he left the team, by having a logo of him at the 50 yard line...
Johnny Manziel makes me wish we still had old school comedic running series about football like that one HBO had back in the day, back when they had Inside the NFL w/ Dawson and Bouniconti and Arliss with Robert Wuhl
Imagine something like Necessary Roughness but instead of Scott friggin Bakula starring and "quarterbacking" the vehicle you had to assemble an all star ensemble to prop up Johnny Football at "QB1"
(btw as a running gag every episode I would change out who plays the backup QB who's sitting next to him watching film or something, kind of as an Easter egg... and that way we can get Josh McCown, Jt o'sullivan, chase Daniel and Ryan Fitzpatrick another jersey each for the collection 😂)
Oh yeah, eventually I'd have him open a season up with a battle for starter with new signee Baker Mayfield and he'd have to like frame him for crimes or something to keep his job. Poor Baker 😞 Johnny Football is the worst, lol
Oohhhh! 😂
@@thepolarphantasm2319 HBO also had Ballers with the Rock

UUUUUUUUUUUGH

Do they hand everyone a $1 bill at the entrance for when Johnny breaks out a bag of Colombian marching powder?
Does Scott Disick works there as well 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Awww I finally discovered why Trev Alberts left for Nebraska for Texas A&M.

And comes as no surprise whatsoever.

The CFL deal was apparently they made him undergo some kind of domestic violence counseling, which he missed, getting him banned. The CFL got a lot of crap for signing Ricky Williams while he was suspended from the NFL, and Canada is selective about people with criminal records getting into the country in the first place, so they wanted to make it look like they were than a rehab for troubled American players.
For Manziel’s part, he signed with Hamilton in hopes that head coach June Jones could help him develop as a pro, but when he was traded away from that situation, it seems like he kind of lost interest in being there.
he lost interest cause he fucking sucked
Saying Johnny football was overhyped is like saying the sky is blue.

Manzel could have been a franchise QB, but he liked to party more than Eddie Murphy’s girl.
He was never good enough to be a franchise QB. Too small, not a big enough arm.
He may have been small, his arm might not have been as strong as we hoped, but he made up for it with that spring in his step… which was probably from all the drugs… okay I see how my theory is unraveling…
Franchise QB?! 😂 Manziel was nothing more than a flash in the pan
@@phenomenalelitebasketball2124 it boggles my mind anyone thought his style and shitty work ethic would make him a good NFL QB.
God I just wish Jerry Jones's son hadn't stopped him from drafting him
On behalf of the city of Kerrville we do not claim this man
The problem with Johnny Manziel was that he preferred being Johnny Football to an NFL Quarterback. Being an NFL QB takes hard work and Johnny was never about that life.
that’s objectively untrue johnny worked his ass off in the pre draft process and at a&m but he couldn’t manage the party life and being an nfl qb plus the drug problems got significantly worse it’s actually a very cautionary tell on how drugs can take over your life
The whole point is that doing the drugs and partying is what ruined him. If he was truly serious about playing in the nfl then he would’ve stopped partying but obv he didn’t
Being an NFL quarterback does take hard work, but lack of focus isn't the only reason for Johnny's failure in the NFL-- he was already undersized for the position at "only" six-foot, his arm strength was the subject of debate, and his super-scrambling play style is a much better fit for college ball (where the defenders aren't as big or as fast) than it is the pros. Even if he was 100% sober, he would have still struggled because his physical tools and playing style just weren't good fits in the NFL. It's a fairly common story amongst college standouts.
No kidding. Thanks for the critical thinking Kevin 😂
Zero effort
I seen the Manziel flop coming from a mile away. He was all about (and only cared about) the fame, hype and money, and had nothing to show for it on the field.
Sounds like Caleb Williams to me 😂
And didn’t even have the physical tools to even try to build up. Didn’t have size and just an average arm. He was fast by college standards but not by NFL standards.
There is a huge reason that during the 2014 NFL Draft that every NFL team (including the browns the first time) passed on him, and there Browns lore that Jimmy Haslem got advice from a homeless guy who told him to draft Johnny Manzil
i was 12 and even i saw it at the time. i also saw him going to the browns.
@@thedude19766the browns also paid 100k for a study on the 2014 nfl qbs. the study told them to take teddy bridgewater…
Love seeing the CFL footage. Canadian football doesn't get enough love
I remember seeing a clip of the ESPN broadcast of the 2014 draft, and every time a QB needy team was about to pick, Jon Gruden would say that they should pick Manziel, and then they would pick a player who would ultimately turn out way better
I can’t see how anyone thought he’d be a good NFL QB. Not only for his complete lack of work ethic, but he was just too small with too weak of an arm.
My mom's cousin lives in Kerville and she said that his family would always sweep his stuff under the rug or pay some type of hush money to have authorities look the other way.
That's common with a lot of families with children that are star athletes. Their child is also their meal ticket to a better life.
Memes aside Johnny Manziel is awesome to listen too today. You wouldn't expect him to be very humble about his college and pro experiences but he absolutely is. W Johnny Football.
I love you highlighting Skip and his idiocy. The way he "predicts" it with confidence makes it even funnier.
I remember back then, they really talked about him like he was Christ 2.0
Watching him fall to 22nd didn’t make sense. Until it did…
Except it didn't. At all.
This is the definition of a guy who needed to be humbled by dropping to the 3rd or 4th round, and sitting for 2 years at least to get up to the speed and complexity of the NFL game.
Manziel didn't come from a rich family with oil money. In a recent documentary, he said he just made that up when the NCAA was investigating him, in order to explain away the conspicuous big spending and high rolling lifestyle.
Online it says he does come from a wealthy family,
@@nickhollister2268 Oh online says it? Must be true then! In the Netflix documentary Johnny himself says he made it up!
@@gwilsonia1 ok boomer.
@@nickhollister2268 Hahahahahahaaha! Do I sound that old? I ain't a boomer. Just seems easy to check on information before making a youtube video and having wrong info in the description
Interesting note about Manziel's stint with the Alouettes and maybe the reason why he was banned. It was never proven, but apparently there had been some mingling behind the scenes between Manziel and Kavis Reed who was the Alouettes GM at the time. Both seem to have been banned from the league after the CFL discovered something that was never publicly disclosed.
The original “fuck it Mike Evans is down there someone”
Picked up Manziel in fantasy back in 2014 off the waiver wire when he started against Bengals. Never again. Luckily left him on the bench.
There are occasions where I think about things like this. For example, the people who bet the over on Matt Cassel's passing yards in the 2010 Wild Card Game. Glad I could see the perspective of one of these souls.
He wasn’t born into oil money.
Glad someone said it
If I had pro sports talent, American football, soccer, or basketball, I would not waste it. I love those 3.
Yeah, I like all those and baseball and hockey, you get mad money for just making a professional roster on average about $700k per year even if you barely play or don't play just to be on the roster. So that's $700k to be a professional bum.
@@LegendMkr7 I like baseball too & played it but couldn’t see when I played outfield. I have rly bad eyes & as a kid I couldn’t see that ball.
I lost my cup , parents wouldn’t buy me a new one idfky. Played in fear since.
One game I played 2nd base. Sucked but I got a ground ball & fumbled, the kid on 1st & I think the kid who hit it passed me. I sore I tagged one but the ref didn’t call it.
Gave myself a black eye by throwing it up in the air at a civil war reenactment as a kid.
Generate half a billion dollars for his schools facilities: "We love you"
Generates less than a quarter million for himself: "How dare you?!"
Considering how their NFL careers have gone, safe to say having Mike Evans as a received helped Manziel a lot. Also, Zack Martin turned out to be an incredible draft pick for the Cowboys.
I'd believe the sky is green before I'd believe Skip Bayless knows anything about sports.
May Skip Bayless forever have horribly wrong takes
Once I heard the passing rating, the famous line from JG9 played in my head ("that's worse than if you do nothing but spike the ball into the ground on every single play").
The oil money story is a well established lie, it was in the documentary.
Dude I’m liking the content. Subbed!
Didn’t want to work, didn’t take his job seriously. And he failed because of it. The classic cautionary tale of a guy who was projected to be the next HOF star and he couldn’t play at all. Failed in multiple leagues. Kept downgrading the competition and still not being good enough.
I’ll never forget the hype and fame he had in 2014-15, he was one of the two or three most covered and talked about names in all of sports. If he put in a little focus and just a little more work into his job and could hang on as an NFL starter he’d be in tons of commercials and sold tons of merchandise. Jerry Jones probably knew this and was tempted to take him knowing the countless revenue and coverage he’d generate
In a couple years this vid will be about JJ McCarthy lol
The cowboys dude!?
@@fornhunkle That's Big Mike McCarthy, JJ McCarthy is a senior out of Michigan
JJ is hyped, but he isn't Manziel level of hype.
McCarthy seems like more of a Zach Wilson than a Johnny Football tbh
Skip’s take was more about burying Lebron than it was pumping up Manziel. Skip has been a LeBron hater since day one.
Johnny Manziel was the most overhyped quarterback ever, but he was a Heisman Trophy winner at Texas A&M. His dynamic playing style and ability to improvise on the field captured the imagination of fans and analysts alike. He was drafted in the mid-1st round by the Cleveland Browns; hoping to be the Browns’ franchise quarterback. Well, the Browns have never had a franchise quarterback in team history. He was overshadowed by his off the field issues that caused him to be an inconsistent quarterback. All of this from him partying all night and hanging out with the wrong people. He didn’t last 3 seasons in the NFL, so he was a major draft bust. He would’ve been a great quarterback if he learn the playbook and put in the work as most NFL players do on the football field and be an elite quarterback like he did in college. In the end, his journey serves as a reminder that talent alone isn’t enough; character, discipline, and resilience matter just as much.🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈
The football video we needed. Also, as a Lions fan, I definitely need that coffee.
At the end of the day, he was a rich kid who took his situation for granted, and blew it all
Something most guys don’t say you said.
There were flashes of Johnny football his second season.
He was undersized but his arm talent and mobility were still enough. If only the dude put in the time.
Calling him overhyped when the guy who went #1 in that draft literally went that high off one highlight reel tackle against Michigan that went viral.
Granted Clowney has had a decent and long NFL career he was hyped to be better than LT and Reggie White…
Best comparison to Manziel is either Matt Leinart or Tim Tebow, BMOC’s who the NFL knew better than to take in the Top 5 and their NFL careers proved it.
We'll never really know what Clowney would have done had he not experienced such bad luck with injuries out of the gates. But totally agree, his story gets sort of lost in the shuffle because Manziel dominates our memories of that draft.
I count myself among those who thought Clowney would be the next big thing. In fact, from that same draft, I probably would have figured Aaron Donald for the career Clowney had, and vice versa. Yeesh, good thing I'm not a scout.
@@6thwilbury2331 as a Bears fan I’m salty bc several mock drafts had Donald falling to us but instead we got Fuller who had back to back Pro Bowl seasons and then fell off the map. It also makes me wish we would’ve traded up to get Mack as our 2015 1st was all-time bust Kevin White vs the 2 1st rounders we had to trade in 2018 for him. Those picks in 2019 and 2020 could’ve been Montez Sweat and Justin Jefferson 😭
The worst thing that ever happened to him was going to Cleveland, and Cleveland having the nerve to say he needs to earn the job all while starting Brian Hoyer, straight NASTY
Brian hover is the 2nd best browns Cleveland qb in the last 25 years.
Yeah can you imagine being forced to have *checks notes* Kyle Shanahan as your OC. Talk about sabotaging a young QB, right?

Awww yes the Browns had it all planned since his freshman year of football. Where he started the party life, lies, lack of study and practice.
I wanted to make a joke about skip Bayless.....but then I remembered some people get paid to make shit up.
I'm suprised he never bothered to try the xfl, usfl, or the new UFL.
Because he does not care about trying to be the best
The dog Manziel had in him must have been a poodle with a heart worm.
And to think Jerry Jones was Sane enough to nearly Draft Johnny Manziel.
Great Vid! Please remind me, who was the schlub WR that made him look so good in college? Oh yeah...
Johnny Football family wasn’t from an oil empire
I have not had the Fuck the Refs blend but I can attest that the Five Points blend is delicious
As a longhorns fan this video gives me great joy. The fact this guy got a Heisman and Vince didn’t is a shame.
I don’t follow college ball but from what I saw of the film, his M.O. was to run around if his first read wasn’t there and then launch a jump ball to Mike Evans.
I wish more people would talk about his performance on the field and more importantly his teammates that allowed him to pop off rather than touting his name for video clicks. Like, surely the rest of the A&M squad must be star-studded to have that famous game against 'bama. And the Browns are well, the Browns, you won't get anything fancy out of them.
Johnny was not born into money. He literally told Shannon sharp like a month ago his dad was a used care salesman working 6 days a week… come on bro do some research before making a vid
With an ultra rich granddaddy, Manziel’s dad could afford to sell cars.
My man here telling people to do research 😂
Getting a sponsorship from Brandon's coffee company is kinda cool tbh
Ngl, I've still got a Manziel Browns jersey 😅
Browns fans live on the Island of Misfit Toys from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, “Oh well, may as well go to bed and wait till next year.”
Growing up in the state of Texas, he was an absolute phenomena. No matter what the team you cheered for you were also a Manziel fan.
I think Skip Bayless saying that was more of a knock at LeBron than hyping up Manziel
I hear him talk about his partying ways in a glowing light, needs to know there were 5 bad moments for every good/glamorous moment he had while using. He's doing a disservice to the youth by not talking about the isolation, depression, and dependance that comes with becoming an addict.

Kid had "bust" written all over him. A perfect fit for the Browns.
I call him Johnny Draftbust and he surpassed Ryan Leaf as the Draftbust of all Draftbust in NFL history, he is the only man who is a bust in 3 different leagues, NFL, CFL and the defunct AAF
I wonder what he could have accomplished if he'd tried or even cared
I can confirm, the fuck the refs blend fucking slaps
Fact check the whole texas oil money thing johonny made up...he said so in an interview
I still remember how distraught I was when the cowboys passed on him....... then the browns drafted him... oh God the pain
The day Johnny walked across the stage at the draft doing the money, money sign. I said he was a NFL bust
I don’t watch much college ball, but I’d heard so much about Manziel thst I decided to check him out. It took me all of 5 minutes to know he was not going to make it in the pros.
Can you imagine if NIL was around back then Johnny would never leave lol
Skips take was a hot take, not a cold take. Hot take means ppl probably won’t agree, just for clarification
7:16, lol he was not flipping the bird to the fans but to Washington
Johnny looked at Ryan Leaf and said hold my beer
He looked at Ryan Leaf and said hold my 4LOKOS and tooter, then looked around again and realized it's 4:16am and there was never anyone there.
A few days ago I watched an hour and a 1/2 video going through the history of all the brown QB's. Even for non brown's fans, it became painful LOL.
He did not come from money, no oil money- did you not watch the Netflix series?
As soon as A&M stopped playing Texas, they got their first heisman trophy winner.
This is what happens when you overinflate a young man's ego all his life to leading him to believe he can get away with anything because Mommy and Daddy will just bail him out.
Had the Cowboys drafted Manziel, they would've been more of a laughing stock than they are now. They would've been a meme for all an eternity.
This was owner interference as he got told by homeless guy yes Jimmy listen to homless man
Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard
Didn’t study the browns play book but still won a game.
The most annoying part of Johnny Manziel in the CFL is that he was just as mediocre up here as he was in the NFL, but the Canadian media kept fawning over him the entire season. I remember watching my team beat the Als when Manziel was playing for them, and the TSN highlight package consisted of one run by Manziel and a trick play he had executed-to the exclusion of highlights by the team that actually won the game. There are verified NFL stars that come up to the CFL and struggle (see Ricky Williams) but one fuck-up ends up here and the entire country’s sports media decided to pretend he’s dominating no matter how mediocre he actually plays. Really made the league look pathetic unnecessarily
This is what happens when a kid gets older but refuses to grow up...
Turns out running around for 10 seconds and just going "fuck it chuck it" doesnt translate to the NFL. Every time he played my team (LSU) he looked average at best.
He can join Ryan Leaf and JaMarcus Russell as the three biggest busts in the history of pro football. Imagine if Jerry passed on a HoF lineman for the second coming of Leaf. Oofs abound
