This is the main principal of the Japanese version of chess called "Shogi". It changes the game a lot because you have to be a lot more intricate in constructing defensive "fortresses" while you can also be super aggressive by dropping pieces behind your opponents.

Yes it is. The differences are that in Shogi you can't drop a pawn in a way that mates the opponent's king. Further, in Crazyhouse you can double one of your pawns
Drag & drop is a trash way to do a mouse interface. That's the real problem. You can't mouse slip nearly as easily if you click to select and then click to place (or similar).
Drag and drop is good for chess because it means that one physical motion corresponds to one move, whereas clicking on both squares is basically 3 motions
@@purewaterruler It's 3 in both cases. Click-drag-release versus click-move-click. But how you frame it doesn't matter, what matters is usability. Drag-and-drop is just a less precise interaction than clicking with a mouse. I think it would be fine to give players the option to use it if that's what they want, but if it's required, then that's just bad interface design.
@SharurFoF I agree with you that the option should be given to the player But it's literally objectively more movement(and more segmented movement) to do a click drag click. I framed it at 1 vs 3 because that's most similar to the way the brain would normally segment it when actually doing the action. The advantage is that it's more precise and you're less likely to make mistakes with clicking on both, as you said. But the reason a lot of players don't do that is just because it adds a little more friction to thinking(plus it's a bit slower in speed chess)
@AlanchessI haven't checked this, but I think this is the best line: ..Qxa1 Qxa1 Kd7 (if Kd8 then @f7 R@e8 fxe8=Q+ Kxe8) @f7, then Black is stuck, as there's no way to protect against Q@e8 and Q@e6.
I’ve played a team version of this before called Birdhouse, I believe. Teammates play opposing colors against the other team, so what you capture, your teammate can use, and vice versa.
You can't put pawns on the 8th and 1st rank, and if you promote it and it gets captured, it will be the opponents pawn and not the promoted piece But you can put it in 6th or 2nd rank
@@DidierLoiseau Right? Like I've had some problems with my mouse suddenly deciding that I'm no longer pressing the button, but it's never been relevant to chess cus you can just click twice rather than having to hold down the button.
I think logitech has started using crappy switches. When he blundered his rook, you could have trapped his queen with your dark squared bishop. Granted, rook for queen is slightly worse than rook for nothing, but the knight would have ended up in the corner, the queen was very active, and you would have gained a queen to play elsewhere.
@@drakebalzer3950 (Edit: 2:05) the queen was protecting the dark diagonal, the final checkmate was possible because of the pawn which was placed later. There was a dangerous check which forced the king forward, but not a clear path to checkmate. Trapping the queen wouldn't be giving away a checkmate.
@@grapetoad6595 Theres still no reason to go for the trapped Queen if you can force the King to a more dangerous square for free. Theres no reason to go for the trapped Queen when you can leave it and potentially have your opponent blunder like they did in the video.

I think that it’s pretty obvious to see that they took the principle from shogi
Yeah but in shogi you only get 1 rook and 1 bishop and most other pieces have even worse movesets than the king.
Shogi looks "idyllic" compared to chess in terms of firepower. 3 rooks 3 bishops and better knights make it chaotic af.
@@HiddenBush64 Well, they took it from bughouse which is BELIEVED to be based on Shogi. That's why it's called crazyhouse.

Major flex to win at Crazy house without stealing any pieces (not pawns).
“Maybe he has an alternative reason for blundering his rook”
“He helped me trap his queen” Both the rook and the queen are on the board at the end
Because Simp would rather win a king than a rook. And the opponent's queen became useless, making the win easier.
Trapped doesn't mean taken.
Trapped pieces are useless. There is no reason to take a trapped piece if you can attack a higher value piece.
@@drakebalzer3950 i see your logic but not in crazyhouse. a captured queen may have made that win a lot easier than it already was
If you don't click and drag you can't mouse slip. Click the piece you want to move and then click the destination square
