▶NEW EPISODE EVERY WEEK - Komedie
One of my favorite theories about this movie is that Oogway was actually planning on making Tai Lung the Dragon Warrior, but denying him was his final test. If he had accepted it with grace, he would've proven himself worthy, but he instead succumbed to the darkness like Oogway feared.
Oh I friggin LOVE that theory!
the wuxi finger hold sent tai lung to the spirit realm btw!😭
Haha thanks
So... basically, he died
@@anneAanneLno he’s not, he got teleported to the afterlife without physically kill
he's in the Home For Infinite Losers
sooo he is dead but he did not die
18:52 You can see that when Tai Lung did the kick-combo and landed on his back foot, he staggered back a couple of hops. That means that he kicked SO hard that he had to compensate for it when he landed. In Kung Fu, you NEVER want to kick so hard that you land off-balance. Being off-balance gives your opponent an opening and time to attack you. But his hubris was too strong and he went 1000000% on everything, which is MUCH too far off-balance. Kung Fu is both push and pull, and Tai Lung was ALL push.
Whoa! First off: what a keen eye you have. Secondly: fantastic job of the animators to put that in! So good
You know as a kid obviously that’s not some I was worried about but as an adult this is so interesting to know he definitely was all push no defense just offense thanks for the info
@@shania991 I'm always happy to share! I'm relieved that my martial arts nerd-rants are useful, or at least entertaining. Little details can matter so much, in animation, in martial arts, and in life, and I was trained to pay attention to all those nuances. The details in someone's behavior can tell you more about the person than the person can.
Also his build compared to tigress and every other kung fu user, he's visibly more buff than all of them. He's built for power, not finesse.
@@MammalianCreature Yes! He's mostly focused on strength. He is very agile, but he gets most of his hits in through brute force and some cunning maneuvers (many of them are cheap shots) rather than speed/agility and balance/stability/rootedness, which are the other two most important parts of Kung Fu.
“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery but today is a gift, that is why is called the present” I could hear this a thousand times and still get teary, so beautiful so hopeful so true.

ah yes, the age old trope: fulfilling the prophecy by trying to avoid the prophecy
Exactly! C’mon Shifu you should know better
I think the official term for that is “self-fulfilling prophecy”.
Fun fact about the floors, some historic-style homes in east asia are actually built to have loud floors on purpose in case of intruders
Interesting 🤔
28:15 don’t know if anyone’s pointed this out yet but as a snow leopard, tai lung would have a great sense of balance (mostly from the type of tail they have) which is why he was relaxed on the swaying bridge while tigress had to rebalance herself!!
Ooh that’s awesome
Fave line - “you may wish for an apple 🍏 or an orange 🍊 but you will get a peach 🍑” - Oogway 😂
🐢🐢🐢
such wise words from a turtle until the day the rabbit beats him
“But a peach can not defeat Tai-Lung!”
@@wickedshadesproductions5254 "Maybe it can, if YOU are willing to guide it, to nurture it; to BELIEVE in it. Promise me, Shifu. Promise me you will believe." 🐢
10:54 "You've never seen Bear Style!" There's a good reason Po says this. There are Tiger, Mantis, Snake, Crane, and Monkey styles of Kung Fu, but I don't think there's a "Panda" style. There might be a newer Bear style, though, or if it's not that, Po uses the Drunken style of fighting. (I'm speaking as someone who practiced Kung Fu for 13 years. Happy Year of the Dragon, by the way! Perfect timing!)
Drunken style is fun!
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who was mad Tigress got snuffed on a higher up position. She worked her whole life, only to be looked down upon constantly by the masters. She's still a strong queen to me, she's the immovable force but I think the reason she wasn't ready was because she couldn't see the whole picture. She can't flow like Po does, physically and mentally.
It seems like the animals that are raised in it tend to not have the right balance
Tigris is an unstoppable force, but so was Tai lung. The valley didn't need an unstoppable force, it needed an immovable object, which is Po.
There's a theory about how Po became the Dragon Warrior that sort of de-mystifies it, but I have to agree with the logic! You could link it to fate, destiny, or dumb luck, but I think Po wrote his own story by acting on what he wanted. Similarly to what Oogway said: "The path to one's destiny is often the road he takes to avoid it." But Po, instead of avoiding a pre-written destiny, actually discovered what his destiny was by building the road himself, through wanting to FIND his destiny.
Because Po was so eager to see the Dragon Warrior, he became the Dragon Warrior. Oogway saw Po repeatedly struggle to get into the arena and brutally fail multiple times until he succeeded. And when he DID make it in, he fell from very high up in the air and survived both the fireworks explosion and the freefall onto the pavement from that height. Oogway saw that Po had tenacity and physical endurance, both of which the Dragon Warrior would need. It was no coincidence or accident, Po simply unintentionally proved himself. Plus, the fact that he survived due to his thick layer of fat meant that if Tai Lung attacked him with the paralyzing nerve attacks, they wouldn't work because he can't find Po's nerves the same way Mantis couldn't when doing acupuncture on Po. Therefore, Po was the best-suited person to stop Tai Lung.
Po wanting to be something he wasn't led to a self-fulfilling prophecy: Instead of becoming something he wasn't, he just became the BEST version of himself. He became "better" as himself, not as someone/something else.
I usually prefer demystifying prophecies!
@@PinkPopcast Just to take it even deeper into the lore, you should watch the 2-D animated short films too. "The Secrets of the Furious Five," and "Secrets of the Scroll" respectively tell how the Five grew up where they came from; and then how they met, formed the group on accident, and how young Po grew fascinated with Kung Fu.
To cut multiple VERY long stories short, each of the Five had very important lessons to learn growing up, making them into who they are. Then, Po gets involved in the Five meeting for the first time. He sneezed into the bowl of noodles Shifu ordered from Mr. Ping's shop, so Shifu gets sick just when the town is under attack and gives his student Tigress a list of 4 warriors to fight the villain. That list gets mixed up with Po's list of potential careers that he threw away. Based on Po's list, Tigress finds Mantis, Monkey, Crane, and Viper, who help her fight the villain despite Shifu's disapproval of their styles because they're not exactly like Shifu's, and their inexperience. When their unique fighting styles win, he decides to let all Five train into the warrior group. Po watched the whole fight and decided he was obsessed with Kung Fu from then on.
So because Po tried to figure out what to do with his life, he made the list. Mr. Ping didn't approve of those jobs so he made Po throw it away and put him in charge of the shop while he ran arrands. If Po hadn't been left in charge of the noodle shop and then made Shifu sick, Shifu wouldn't have asked Tigress to find 4 other warriors. And if Tigress didn't accidentally find Po's list of jobs he made while trying to find his purpose, and think it was Shifu's list, she wouldn't have met her warrior friends. The Furious Five wouldn't exist for Po to look up to. If Po hadn't seen their victory, he never would've wanted to learn Kung Fu. And he wouldn't have become the Dragon Warrior.
TL;DR, Po's search for meaning as a teenager brought him to Kung Fu and made him hungry for more, giving him the drive he needed to fulfill his self-made destiny to become the Dragon Warrior in the first movie.
38:43 So I had to Google it, but apparently snow peopards CAN mew. They just can't roar like some other big cats can. Instead, they make a sound called "chuffing." They can also purr, hiss, growl, moan, and yowl.
I quote so many lines from KP everyday, is embarassing... the other day my father (who is divorced from my mother) said to me: " You're such a selfish horrible and bad daughter", and I was like " I'm not A selfish horrible and bad daughter... I'm THE selfish horrible and bad daughter" safe to say he didn't laugh, but I did in my head 🙃
OMG 🤣🤣🤣
The second one for some reason legit terrified me when I first saw it😂 it’s definitely a lot darker but VERY ENTERTAINING
I can see that! Terrifying villain 🥶
"And everyone is traumatized now." YEP
11:13 Oh, that was NOT a "balloon," Benji! It's a weighted wooden dummy that bounces back like those "Bobo the Clown" bop-it toys, but it is NOT soft! We have a dummy similar to that at my dojo, except it has a spring-loaded arm and a couple of padded areas to practice blocking and striking respectively. We can't use it unless we're VERY advanced and only with teacher supervision, because someone actually did lose a tooth once with that same dummy. An older student who was definitely not advanced enough to use it was trying to do so while waiting for his teacher, but I told him for his own safety to stop before he hurt himself. I was 3 sashes more advanced than him and I hadn't begun training on it yet. I also told him it knocked out someone's tooth before and he immediately backed away. He just didn't know any better before I said something.

Po said "Watch me" and hit the Lil Kim on em lmfaoo
I just have to say that this movie franchise is near and dear to my heart. As you have already guessed, Po was adopted and some people would say he's neurodivergent-coded. I was adopted as a baby and while I don't remember the person who birthed me and I don't want to find them, I know and love the woman who raised me as a single parent like Mr. Ping raised Po. I have also been a Kung Fu student for a long time and I love martial arts. And to top it all off, I'm on the Autism Spectrum. This franchise (and "Lilo and Stitch") have always spoken to my identity from the adoption perspective, and from being "the weird kid." All the friends I have now love me for how I am, and I never had to change for them; Neither did Po (or Lilo.) Our found families love us.
I love seeing all the people who practice kung-fu info dumping in the comments
🤚🏻 I am one of those people 😂 I'm already biased to love this whole movie franchise. I already liked it when I was 7 and it first came out, but then I started Kung Fu myself when I was 9 and fell in love with the first one all over again. I practiced Kung Fu for 13 years (taking a break to focus on University stuff for now) and as more of the movies came out I just went 🦇💩 crazy for them. And since I'm ✨ on the Spectrum,✨ I love nerding out about the martial arts aspects of ALL of them, with anyone who will listen 😂
2:03 James Hong's family actually DID own a restaurnant/noodle shop in the Chinatown area of Minneapolis when James was younger, and he worked there. The creators learned that about him and incorporated it into his character, Mr. Ping.
Amazing! 🪿
I cannot explain how comforting it is to see Rizzo talk about who voices who bc ive always been that person and it annoys everyone when i do it
like no you need to know who is voicing this character
😂 yes he’s definitely that person too, no worries
26:17 If you freeze-frame it, you can see that Shifu was grinning at the camera when he stole Po's dumpling. Cheeky little red panda!

The fact that this is my first time hearing this movie in English and with Rizzo’s and Benji’s commentary makes it the best first time ❤
What language did you used to watch it in??
39:28 Like others said, the Wuxi Finger Hold sends someone directly to the Spirit Realm (like when Jedi join the Force and their physical bodies leave the Earthly realm/life.) And if you remember, Shifu said the hardest part of the Wuxi Finger Hold "is cleaning up afterwards." That's because it also disintegrates your physical body. In Thanos' words, Tai Lung is "Gone, reduced to atoms." So all that dust in the town and that whooshed on the wind? It's Tai Lung's disintegrated body.
LITERALLY CRYING AT THIS REACTION
The first time I saw this movie, I was in standard 2, and immediately, I fell in love. It makes me cry so profusely and truly inspires the woman I am today. I'm so happy you reacted to this.
Aww well it’s such a good film so it’s a great inspiration

It's kinda crazy to think about how if Shifu had just waited for Oogway to blow out the candles, how different would his fate have been?
I get that Shifu blowing them out added to the comedy, characterization, and pacing of the scene/characters, but the timeline of it all would be have likely been drastically different. The feather would not have landed where it did, if not at all. Shifu may have been calm enough at that point to not take such hasty measures. And maybe there wouldn't have been a need for a Dragon Warrior, thus altering Po's own timeline (nospoilers yo).
Whoda heck knows tho?? yall watchiing this reminded me of that alternate story that could have (but not likely canonically) been

15:02 one of the most beautiful shots in an animated movie change my mind
This movie is dearly-loved in China for being a great representation of Chinese culture and kung fu movies. It's considered to be among the greatest films in the Wuxia genre, and especially because it's an American-made animated movie marketed to kids, that's saying something! The whole franchise is very profound and honors Chinese cultures while maintaining lighthearted moments and humorous beats.

Yess! Glad to hear it 😄
I absolutely love this movie everything about but the main thing is the CASTING, how they lowkey fit the animal their playing, how they play of that animals strength. My fav for example mantis super small but even in real life a very strong insect I just found that very clever, and for some reason when Po is fighting for the dumpling I love the line “I’m not hungry” subtle but showing Po is becoming the man or panda ? Lol he always wanted to be vs who he was expected to be and for a lot of people that can be super stressful feeling like you aren’t living up to your full potential which po wasn’t.
22:41 same here Benui, those scenes always get me cackling

Number 4 is coming soon 😂 i hope u do 3 and 4 soon
Ready for 2, 3 and then 4!!!😊
18:45 Finally proper reaction on mustache being tore off
I honestly love Dreamworks films. They are so slept on compared to Pixar but the creativity they have with some of their concepts is just bananas. Like...on paper Kung Fu Panda sounds dumb.
But the film really goes in on self acceptance being the key to Po's ability to be great. And others accepting Po as he is to see his potential. Like normally when we see a fat character, we see them get skinny as part of their journey towards being the hero but...that NEVER happens with Po. And idk, as someone who had been constantly told I wasn't enough just as I am, that message rang out loud and clear.
Like, this trilogy is lovely. I hope you watch the second cause how it deals with trauma and adoption stories is just beautiful.
We definitely will 🦚
Po sent him to the spirit world. Basically he forced him to do what Oogway does going to the spirit world. Not necessarily killing him but he can’t go back to the real world

When I first watched this movie, I didn't pay it that much attention. Rewatching it in 2011 (because of the second movies release), I loved the action, character growth, and lessons taught. Have u guys thought about season 2 of Derry girls?
Most "unkillable unbeatable god villains" in movies feel so artificial. Like they are unbeatable and godlike just bc the story says they are - but Tai Leng's prison escape scene shows you again and again it is entirely earned. He's calculating, cunning, and absolute uncanny perfection in every action he does. Completely unrelated to his physicality, he is the big bad (ironically) because of the same reason Po becomes the dragon warrior, but in a twisted kinda way - he just believes he is the dragon warrior so he is. No questions asked. Funnily enough, he believes in his "destiny" soo much he can't see anyway out of it other than becoming that thing by whatever means necessary. "In order for something to be special, you've just got to believe it is" is all well and good, but Tai Leng believed in his specialness soo much he became a unfeeling unremorseful villain.
THERE WAS AN END CREDIT SCENE?!
I know right!? It’s so cute

That is quite a mix 🥹
There’s a great Tumblr post about this movie, basically, “Kung Fu Panda did a lot more for body positivity than any magazine campaign in the last decade”(or along those lines). It’s not perfect. But, while there’s fat jokes in the movie, it eventually is shown to be part of Po, and therefore one of his strengths, showing that yes, you can be fat, healthy and happy! Mantis addresses that directly, “Who am I to judge a warrior based on his size?” But it’s nice to see the characters really come around to Po and support him. Plus, it’s so nice that neither Tigress nor Viper were hypersexualized in some way, with Tigress’ body proportions looking really natural. Even if it’s because “they’re all animals”, I wouldn’t have put it past execs to request something really wild.
I recommend the second movie!!! It's on par (if not better) than the first film!
Definitely better
We’ll be watching it ☺️
It has the (in my opinion) the best villain in the series by far!!!
