I mean this movie had it all: two writers with a backlog of terrible work, a cast who were misled into thinking this was an MCU movie, truly awful plot structure, a villain with no backstory or depth who had to be ADR'd most the film, some of the most egregious product placement ive ever seen, dialogue out of a highschool play, and just zero creative identity outside of being another nail in the coffin of Sony's corpselike Spiderverse
Hopefully the final nail but something tells me they’ll keep on kicking. I did feel bad for all the younger actors, they definitely were excited to be there
It makes morbius look like a masterpiece.
Like Tahar and the others are great actors, but they were let down.
@@ripleyjlawman.3162 see I thought he was probably a good actor but that script and the ADR of his lines made him UNBEARABLE!
The ADR can be attributed to one factor and one possibility, clearly the studio decided his accent was too thick, (a stupid reason given that he’s completely understandable in interviews from the press tour for the film, and from previous press tours for works he was involved in/starred in. (Edit: The second possibility was not a possibility but a definite factor and I didn’t even realize it.)
Ezekiel’s characterization was clearly a major casualty of the multiple rewrites that Dakota Johnson admitted occurred during filming, it’s entirely possible that they just used takes from earlier versions of the script and dubbed over the lines they’d made Tahar read when the scenes were originally filmed.
Honestly one of the things that irked me the most was the way they wrote Sydney Sweeneys character. Had this grown woman playing like a 15 shy, almost babyish character wearing a short skirt and high socks. WHY ARE WE DOING THIS IN 2024!?!?
“it exists and you can decide if that’s good or bad” is the only movie review that needs to exist from now on 😂
Hahah sometimes there are movies so bad we will warn you, but “2003 direct-to-dvd throwback superhero film” is fine if that’s all you’re expecting!

I love this review, so actually honest! I feel like critics are usually afraid to go for the middle ground approach of "not impressed but not disappointed; make your own opinion" so this was refreshing ❤

This movie feels messy, like the writers couldn't agree on one cohesive story. Plus in the og comic, Madam Webb is an older woman, and i wish they kept that since there’s so many talented actresses out there. Dakota is pretty likeable but her dry acting makes her act like she's too good for this role (just like all her other films)

So I watched Kayla says’s video on this movie and her bf is a huge spider man fan and follows the comics and he was so upset by this movie because the point of Spiderman is that a radioactive spider randomly bites Peter and gives him his powers but in the Sony Spiderman universe, all spiders are magic (maybe not all but most) and give you abilities. You lose the point of why Spiderman is special.
he didnt read enough spiderman comics cause 1. not all spider people got their powers the same way. in fact that spider that bit him died and there are folks like julia and jessica drew who never got bit by a spider 2. in the early 2000s when ezikiel (the villain of this movie) was introduced, they retconned the whole radioactive spider thing. look up the comic "the other". it introduced the concept of spider totems and that allowed the spider people (who were largely UNCONNECTED dispite their powers, names and costumes) to now be connected and them to introduce the inheritors, a big bad new villain for spiderman, who are multiversal vampires who only feed on spider people. this has been since 2001 so homie needs to catch up on the last 2- years. 3. elseworlds/what ifs exist. there are so many different alternate versions of parker 4. most importantly, this isnt a spiderman film lol its a MADAME WEB film. getting mad at it for not having spiderman in it or "changing spiderman's lore even though he isnt in it so no it really doesnt" makes absolutely no sense to me. people forget that fan is an abbreviation of FANATIC #mentalhealth #icouldnever. it would be like me getting mad at a woleverine movie cause of the POSSIBLE implications it has for the wider xmen universe and no. not once did i go "it doesnt work because xyz" the movies were horrible and im so glad jean wasnt in them :) 5. if you think what makes spiderman special is HOW he got his powers, then you dont get the character at all. neither do any of these "fans". its his PERSONALITY. how he is an every man. how, when in that costume that covers his ENTIRE body, he could be ANY one of any color, background, religin, etc. he is very much an average joe. homie doesnt have food in his fridge and is always late on rent but he preservers and keeps going no matter how hard the challenges are that life throws at him. THAT is what makes him special, not HOW he got his powers or (in the case of the outrage of the first spiderman films) rather or not he has organic or man made webbing. its all so silly and fake outrage cause they have no real problems in their little lives to create some drama so they arent bored to death. lame
We’re not gonna slam anyone here but that is a valid reason to not want to see the movie Megan. That said, Peter Parker isn’t really ruined by this movie so you’re still able to enjoy the rest of the universe with or without Madame Web
@@PinkPopcast thank you. I think I might pass on this movie only because it doesn’t seem as camp as the other Sony movies. Morbius and venom are at least campy.

I disagree. Her dismissive attitude reads as very privileged. Most actors will at some points act in projects that turn out horribly but they understand this is
job. Doing the press tour is a job. A non-nepo baby actor would take it more seriously and not show up with a “I’m too good for this” attitude. Because they know they need to continue working after. She has the privilege not to be concerned about future projects so she can do this. Her co-stars don’t act like this on the press tour

In the comics she is a mutant but she isn't a fighting hero. She is an old woman who is stuck on life support but also has a bunch of psychic abilities like telepathy and clairvoyance. She interacts with spiderman a bunch though.

A good actor really does a lot with sup-par movies. Even if the dialogue is cringe, a good actor can make it sound decent. But I'm sorry, Dakota Johnson can not act to save her life. Dakota Johnsons' acting is blander than a pop-eyes biscuit.

The bad dubbing just made it kinda unwatchable for me. But I know it doesn't bother most people as much as it bothers me.
Honestly, i was looking forward to the movie when i saw the trailer.. i didnt mind Morbius, and figured itd be a similar energy to that, considering the hate both movies got.. but once i watched Madame Web, there was so much potential that they just failed on, and so many character contradictions, it sucked

Wait so this isn't marvel? Someone please explain to me the difference because i started watching all marvel movies like 3 months ago(?) I'm still kinda learning about all of this. Please bear with me, i never thought i was this slow till i got in the mcu lol
the thing is- Marvel belongs to Disney meaning that Disney have rights to do movies about all Avengers members, Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, girls from the latest movie The Marvels etc. They can use them however they want, use their names, their backstories, have two/three/all of them in one movie, basically they have rights to use their characters as they please. The problem is that Spiderman is great fillar of comics but doesn't belong to Marvel anymore, Spiderman belongs to Sony. The backstory behind it is that in the ‘80s Marvel went out to Hollywood to license some of their superhero characters to different movie studios to create films that would function kinda like commercials. The independent studio Cannon Films bought the rights to Spider-Man, tried and failed to make a Spider-Man movie and then went bankrupt in '96 and so did Marvel. The rights to Spiderman were lost in litigation until '99 when Marvel recovered them and sold them to Sony. The success of Sony’s Spider-Man films along with the Fox X-Men movies helped Marvel earn some money. So now we have a situation where anytime Marvel wants to use Spiderman in their movies they need to make agreement with Sony, it doesn't matter that Spiderman is a really important character in marvel's comics..Thats why many ppl were surprised when we watched Avengers Civil War in 2016 cause it featured new Spiderman and it was an intresting plot twist and hope that they would start doing his story properly and regularly. Also, during previous Avengers The Age of Ultron from 2015 we got two new characters Wanda and Pietro Maximoff and there were rumours that Marvel could only keep one character so they decided to leave Wanda and kill off Pietro who was supposed to be the Quicksilver (this name never was said during the movie, once again no rights to use them). Avengers Age of Ultron couldn't call the Scarlet Which and Quicksilver 'mutants'. They solved this by calling them 'miracles'. Marvel has the film rights for Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch because the characters have a unique status in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch have been members of both the X-Men and the Avengers in the comic books, which has allowed them to be used by both 20th Century Fox (for the X-Men franchise) and Marvel Studios (for the Avengers and broader MCU). This is due to their complex comic book history and the fact that they are considered mutants in the comics, but their connection to the Avengers has allowed Marvel Studios to use them in their films. And back to Spiderman, the licensing deal between Sony and Marvel means Sony also controls the film rights to roughly 900 characters from the Spider-Man universe, its mainly just supporting characters but thats why we are seeing and we will see so many characters around main Spiderman

Mr Sunday Movies referres to these sony marvel movies as SPUMM (Sony Pictures Univeres of Marvel Movies). The name sounds so yuck, that it perfectly encapsulates their movies and their business practices.

I smoked up before I went to see this and the crazy backstory intro had me questioning my existence.
I loved Dakota’s performance and her character - the way she oscillated between being intentionally and unintentionally comedic was weirdly compelling. Loved the early 2000s feel of it too. it was so fun!
That ADR villain was definitely the weak spot tho.

I saw this with a free ticket and I hated it. You can tell Dakota tried with what she had been given. As I was leaving, a super butch masc person in about their 60's asked what I thought, and I said, "Well, it was certainly a movie." They said they loved it and they'd seen it twice already, this being their 3rd. If I hadn't needed to leave, I would've asked them why, but to each their own, I guess. Almost the entirety of all 3 Lord of the Rings films were ADR! This movie just did it horribly, and didn't even do it that often! °SPOILERS° The moment I started hating the movie was when Ezekiel killed the cops on the subway instead of the girls. Of all the dumb villain things to do... He's so determined to kill these teenagers, but nope.

Honestly this is the only review I care about. Personally had no interest in this movie cause I'm tired of Sony trying so desperately for this cinematic universe to work when it's clearly not, but I knew you two would be honest with your thoughts without being click-baity. Imo they should've just stopped with the first Venom movie (if only for it being fun + exposing me to Symbrock lol), and then either leave him by himself or pull a Deadpool and somehow get Venom in the MCU for a full movie if that's too boring. Idk just my thoughts 🤷🏾♀️

A2 was exactly what it was supposed to be a live-action Saturday morning cartoon! Not perfect by any means, but it's a fun ride.
