It’s so hilarious that Erik is trying to be so polite and watch his words with THIS movie but Loki episode 2 got all kinds of unnecessary smoke when it came out. I want the same amount of smoke for something that actually deserves it.
I mean this is the first time he has ever given a 0. So I feel this was very honestly harsh for Erik.
Isn’t the whole plot that the bad spider-man is afraid that these ladies will kill him by trowing him out of a window, but then literally jumps to the ground from the 30th floor himself and is fine

I really enjoyed this film but I remember when it was announced and rumoured to be a terminator style movie where Madame Webb sends a team of Spider-People back in time to protect baby Peter parker and like .. that would've slapped
Script f'ed up the movie
I didnt even care for that plot but I much would have preferred the rumored plot then what they finalized and put in theaters now. Its clear the studio interfered so much, its barely anything 😅
It was even worse than this review. Don't sugar coat it. Terrible movie. End of story.

This reluctance to place blame for these awful movies due to being seen as “mean” on the internet today is ruining film criticism and it’s also why we keep getting so much crap directed and written by people with a history of directing and writing crap.
Well this is the access media so of course they wont say anything bad because they need their access to stay relevant. There's plenty of real critics that will call out the bad writing, directing and acting in movies though.
Erik has SUCH a great point about ageism in Hollywood. I mean, they have so many men in their 40s/50s in the MCU, and the leading women are in their 20s/30s. I would be ALL for an older female lead!
Honestly, psychic ambulance driver sounds like a great movie…and then BAM post credit scene, Peter Parker is born. I fixed it for you Sony

Madame Web felt like it was edited by a CZcamsr. Quick cuts, crossing the 180, not letting ANY of the dialogue breathe, just absolute chaos.
Regarding giving a 0, if you don’t allow it then your scale is 20-100 rather than 0-100 so a final score of 42 is ~28%
The Green Lantern slander needs to end. On rewatch it really holds up.

Set in the past, Madame Web sets up a sequel to take place in the present, featuring Melanie Griffith as a more mature version of the character.
I don't understand anyone's power sets in the movie. Is Ezekiel similar to our basic Spider-Man? Then why doesn't he have a spider sense? Cassandra's powers are different than spider people's but imo they're very vague. Can someone please just explain the individual powers of all the main characters (including the three girls) according to the comics? I'm very VERY confused.

It seems at this point sony doesn't care about making good movies as long they still have the Spider-man movie rights. It also seem they rather lose money than lose the Spider-man movie rights. Movies like Madame Web and Morbius will pretty much hurt Kraven and maybe Venom 3 as well at the box office. Seeing how bad those movies are people are not going to see Kraven and Venom 3 because of it. Sony might panic and decide to make Kraven PG-13 so more people would see it in theaters and get some money back.
!00% this. Let Sony keep the video game rights, and the rights to the animated fils. But give the live action to Marvel

That snap zoom at the end where she says they werent you nightmare but me, all 10 ppl in my theater LAUGHED so fucking hard, also every scene where they were driving the EMT was laughably horrible, why they treating it like a fast and furious movie? There are tv shows that have made following an ambulance way more interesting

I understand where the disappointment comes from. But you need to understand the message the director wants to give. The theme to the movie is beautiful and as a first responders I feel very proud we are being recognized. Not all heroes wear capes.

I hope the people who treated the Marvels unfairly realize how good of a female led cast we had in that movie and how it came together in comparison to the poorly engineered Madame Webb cast and storyline.

My only issue with this movie was how did she drive through an ad into evil Spiderman? The ad wasn't ground level. Second time she hit him with a vehicle. Otherwise, I liked it.

I’m wondering if this started out as a Spider-Woman movie and they didn’t know which to use. Maybe like his Karate Kid idea. They just turned the Madame Web part of it up. I can see Johnson as Jessica Drew. Maybe Web started out like the Patrick Stewart Prof. X. They then eliminate her and merge the role with Drew so she can be in on the action because they need the psychic. Which, if you think about it, is just a stronger spider-sense.
Okay, just going by this review. I’m starting to be convinced she might have been Jessica Drew. She sounds like she was meant to be the established Spider-Woman sent out to save these future spider women by Madame Web. She’s a loner type that’s not good with people and has to learn to connect. In the comics Web was like a psychic monitoring system for a government agency and Drew was a SHIELD agent. Uniform downgrade and now she’s a paramedic. The girls might have been pre-teens (kid with picture) that were aged up because they merged Web and Drew and she needs older girls to bounce lines off of. Wow that would have been a better movie…
Re: the needle drop choices:
The movie was very inconsistent here with what year it takes place. On the radio earlier in the movie you only hear songs from the mid 90s like 4 Non Blondes, Cranberries, and Meredith Brooks. Then for some reason Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now.” The only music things that really connected it to the early 00s were needle drops that seem to have been added *after* shooting (like that weirdly delivered line by the DJ of “this is going to be a hit!” or the random building with Beyonce on it) to the point where I think they produced the movie thinking 90s and then decided in post to move it to 2003.
Also makes more sense if it was supposed to be the 90s for the age of Ezekiel Sims, as he would likely be in his 50s or 60s yet the actor is in reality and looks 40 in the movie.
I am sad at how many people hate this awesome movie! I really loved this one!

It's fascinating in all the reviews, critics all like the actors, but really, really kill the writing. I gotta say though that even if Dakota Johnson knew she was in a bad movie, she should've gone the other way and just hammed it up and had fun with the character, instead she went the other way and was blah. Also I know that Madame Web that we normally see in comics is an old woman (even though now she's young) if this movie is an origin story than I can't say Sony is being ageist. We're supposed to see the beginning of Madame Web so it makes sense to make the character young. I tell ya Sony, this is your second strike, Kraven better be REALLY good

Who decides if someone is creative? Is it quantifiable, or is it the fact you were born into the right environment, went to the right educational facilities and had the right family connections whilst pandering to the current trends.
Current film output seems to point to the studios trying to direct the viewer to believe in what they believe and not just telling an interesting, structured reality based story
I envisioned Madam Web played by Maggie Smith.
