Another amazing thing-men weren’t supposed to ask women again once they’d said no to a proposal. You had one shot, and that was it. That’s why he asks if she’s rejecting him-he’s clarifying whether this is a thing open for discussion or if she’s giving him a formal no, and she makes it clear it’s a no. So when Darcy does all those things for Elizabeth after she refuses him, he’s not doing them to “get” her. He can’t “get” her, because it would’ve been scandalous to ask again without Elizabeth broaching that subject, and he’s a man who respects good social boundaries. He’s doing these things to make her happy. That’s why the aunt is a character-it’s so she can go to Elizabeth and demand that she promise not to marry Darcy, so he can learn of her refusal and suspect she would be okay with him raising the subject again. And it’s why he emphasizes that this is only a result of the convo with the aunt, not him just pressuring her. He’s a good man who understands why etiquette exists as it does-he doesn’t want Elizabeth to be afraid that he’ll abuse his power as a rich man with tremendous influence in society. He’s telling her that she can safely say no. The cherry on top of the Darcy Perfection Sundae.

One thing that I would want to highlight about Jane's character, which they didn't show in the movie, is that Jane wasn't just simply shy: women back then were forever adviced to be demure and be serene, and even be very reserve (not to show too much emotions). Jane basically excelled in that. Mr. Darcy, being experienced in the London society, where MANY people were forever hounding him for marriage and his money, I can only imagine how many tactics of getting him he had already memorized. Now when Mr. Darcy met Jane Bennet, while he didn't know her that well, he sees her very much reserved (and serene), even in the presence of Mr. Bingley. He notes that, while she does enjoy his attentions, what he sees is that Jane treats Bingley the same treatment as everyone else. What Mr. Darcy usually would see in London Society (in which he was a part of for many seasons already) is that IF a women does like the man who was flirting/courting her, she would give him much encouragement. And Jane, to Mr. Bingley, did not. That is why Mr. Darcy arrived to that conclusion. Yes, the Bennets were a vulgar family (with the exception of Jane and Lizzy ofc), but his concern is more of the unequal affections betwen Jane and Bingley. As his friend (maybe even bestfriend), Darcy felt that Bingley deserves better, that he married a woman who has equal affections to Bingley. In the end, Charlotte was right: she advised Lizzy to advice Jane to be more open with Mr. Bingley, or else he will think that his attentions, while welcomed, weren't really as wanted. Lizzy would then tell Charlotte that Mr. Bingley would be a fool if he couldn't guess Jane's feelings towards him and give up his (unofficial) courtship with her. But Lizzy totally forgot that really only her (and maybe the rest of the family) can actually read Jane, not everyone else. Mr. Darcy (and Mr. Bingley) failed to read Jane Bennet's feelings. While it was kinda lame for Mr. Darcy to do that to the sunshine couple, he did have a point. He really was just trying to be a good friend to Bingley.

My friend got me to watch this for the first time a couple of years ago, and I think I may have slightly ruined the famous rain scene for her because I’m like 98% sure that they used a male stand-in for Keira Knightley when she’s not facing the camera. She’s 5’6 and Matthew Macfadyen is 6’3, but they’re practically the same height when the camera focuses on Darcy. That or they just have Keira up on a box, but I prefer to think that impassioned performance was directed to an intern in a wig.

Its a pity how madge, her friend in the upper district, was cut from the casting. Cause she was one of the only ones peeta could normally talk to when they first recovered him from the capitol.

I always love seeing people discover my favorite movie for the first time 🥰 and I love sharing fun facts about it to help deepen general understanding! - The eldest of the daughters would be called Miss Bennett; the rest are considered Miss *insert first name* until they become the eldest unmarried Miss Bennett. - Mr. Collins is not their First cousin. His father and Mr. Bennett were first cousins, so he’s a tad bit removed. Unfortunately, intermarrying like that to keep estates and property in the family was fairly common. (Still pretty ew in our eyes, but for the times, 🤷🏻‍♀️ what can you do.) - “Do we hate each other? Do we love each other?” YES, DUH. 🤣 I kid. - Dayum, Benji knows things! Yes, Mr. Bennett has the estate, and it produces a certain amount of interest from the banks every year. That interest back to them is the money the “landed gentry” live off of, including Bingley and Darcy. Bingley’s family estate provides 5000 pounds per year to live off of, and Darcy’s 10,000. The Bennett’s do Not have that kind of money, and after Mr. Bennett dies, the estate and all of its income goes to Mr. Collins. Hence why Mrs. Bennett was so eager for Lizzy to marry Mr. Collins, to keep the estate in the family so she and the girls wouldn’t be homeless. - It’s suuuuper gross because he sucks, but Mama Bennett was thrilled Wickham married Lydia because Everyone’s lives would be ruined if they hadn’t. Her running off with Wickham and not marrying would mean she has no morals. If she has no morals, then her sisters probably have no morals. If her sisters have no morals, no respectable/wealthy man would ever consider marrying them. If they don’t marry, the family is homeless once Mr. Bennett dies. It sucks, but them marrying helped save the family’s reputation. (I typed all of that before getting to the part where Benji already knows this. Whoops.) - Awww, the American version ends with a lovely scene between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth after they are married! He calls her Mrs. Darcy repeatedly and slowly kisses her all over her face until it ends with a big damn kiss! It’s beautiful ❤️ I love your appreciation for the filmmaking and acting and this magnificent movie!

TLDR: This show has my entire heart. I see the mural in Derry often and I've always been in awe of it. Its beautiful and it reminds me of my childhood and of hope. The show's finale holds a really special place in my heart. This is my home and it is the home of the people I love, and the people I will meet or never meet. The faces painted on that mural represent not only the comfort the show brought millions, but of the thousands of childhoods experienced or cut short during the troubles; the childhood memories that couldn't be recreated in a script. It would be incredibly difficult to travel to a town in the north without finding a monument or mural dedicated to the victims of a bombing or shooting where you're stood. There is so much anger, darkness and grief associated with this time, but this show depicted a side to real experiences that reminded us that joy and love continued on in the face of it because it had to. These were children raised in an adults' war just like the conflicts that are still occurring across the globe. The humility of the characters is supposed to highlight the absurdity of the situation whilst comforting us that we are largely removed from it - a privilege others do not have.

I teared up when Edwina was yelling at Kate. I felt so bad for both of them. Edwina became my favorite character this episode. And I felt the same way about the wedding dress as Rizzo, I just wanted it to be bigger.

I’ve watched this movie so many times, and LOVE the soundtrack. But I never caught the brief look we get at how Wickham treats Lydia in the carriage. He basically pulls her around, pulls her down on the seat, and starts yelling at her? I never noticed that until you showed the close up of that scene. 😮

You got one thing MAJORLY wrong. I don’t know if it’s the fault of the film (possibly) or you just misinterpreted. Darcy is most DEFINITELY NOT in love with Lizzie from Day 1. When he says at that first ball that her looks aren’t good enough to tempt him, he means it. He is not interested. It’s only as time goes on that he adjusts his opinion, and the more he knows her, the more beautiful he finds her. It is not love at first sight.

Wait a minute! Was that just your editing or did you watch the European ending?! The American ending has an extra scene of Darcy and Elizabeth at Pemberly after they are married.
