Absolutely no innocents should be dying in this conflict. All innocent civilians deserve life and safety. But the idea that people in the live comment section just commenting Palestinian flags actually care or are doing anything is insulting. Some of us are actually losing people on both sides of this conflict and people just commenting flags is crazy. The whole situation is a lot more than just a chance to post Flags in chat for many of us. This shit is serious and I'm not down with pretending people throwing up a Palestinian flag in chat is anything different than posting a black square as your Instagram pic in summer 2020. The communities affected by this deserve more than that type of nonsense and we all know it. All of those civilians deserve better than the black square activism that most of the internet is giving them.
So I very much appreciate you posting this message of support for innocence and mentioning that there are Innocents on both sides and none of them deserve what is happening. Actually saying that does so much more for all of us than you understand.

It’s not that she thinks Gale was accidentally part of the delayed bomb that killed Prim, it’s that she KNOWS he was. You must’ve missed it, but there’s a part earlier in the movie where Gale comes up with the design for a delayed explosion that draws more people in, thus also killing the people that try to help the injured. Katniss says something like “I guess there’s no rules for what you can do to somebody in war.” Gale is garbage đŸ—‘ïž

I kept thinking that too and that I hate him.
But the more I rewatch this series, I see him as much as victim as the victors are. He lost family. He had to see his childhood friend in these games for four movies. He is seeing the effects that it has on her family as he is protecting him. District 12 is his district too and it got burned to the ground.
He has survivor’s guilt over not saving everyone in District 12 and the hospitals.
I discussed this with my mom and she said he was brainwashed by Coin, just not with tracker jacker venom. I agree. Coin used these half truths and their vulnerability to manipulate them to do her will just like Snow did.
I felt it was more subtle, but I felt even though he did make the bombs with the delay, he did not know how Coin was going to use them. I see films and hear stories that involve employees making something that can be abused behind their backs. Coin did not reveal herself or her plans to everyone. I think this includes Gale.
I realized I don’t hate him. I hate what he did. There is a difference. But Katniss was right for kicking him out of her life.

@@gabrielleduplessis7388 I see your points and agree with many, but I think it’s a bit of a copout to say that even though he designed them, he didn’t know that Coin was going to use them. He designed them for them to be used, wanting them to be used to the point that he defended the idea to Katniss. He only felt guilty when it killed someone he knew and hurt Katniss. If Prim hadn’t died there, I don’t think he would’ve felt guilty at all, which is a problem in itself.
Yea, he’s a victim of trauma too, and that’s tragic. I think he kind of serves as an example of trauma manifesting itself by continually perpetrating more trauma. It’s like in Katniss’ speech in District 2, when she tells the guy: “We blew up your mine, you burned my district to the ground
it just goes around and around.” And she mentions the same idea to Gale by saying with his kind of thinking, one can continue to destroy lives and do stuff like create the Hunger Games.

Right the movies doesn’t do his character evolution justice. It also goes back to the love triangle the books, tell a much deeper story about the evolution of the love relationship between all of them. By the end of all this, Gail had changed so much that he wasn’t even the same person that she Cared for before the first hunger games. And her love for Pita grew way past platonic in such a distinct way that I wish the movie could have shown. The books even go into their intimacy a little bit.

Suzanne Collins actually was asked about Primrose's death in an interview and that really opened my eyes a bit to the ending. the question was if she knew from the beginning that Primrose would still die in the end and Suzanne replied: "yes, of course. that's the whole point." just the randomness and unjustness of it all, that you can do everything to protect someone but war will still kill them. it's heartbreaking but i get why it was important for the story

Snow was so realistically despicable I can't help but love Donald Sutherland's portrayal because he played the f*** out of this character. the mutt isn’t really a race allegory so much as it is about the mutations in the capital. the scary creatures were also “mutts” aka mutations made by the capital to make the games more interesting (like the dogs from the books). so when he says that, he’s calling her a creation from the capital, which he later calls himself a mutt because he was messed up by the capital by torture

The problem with these movies is in order to sell the love triangle they upgraded Gale and downplayed Peeta. While the romance between Katniss and Peeta was a show they had to present it was actually real. However, you had a 17 year old who had big feelings she was having difficulty processing under a microscope being forced to be a distraction. At the end of Catching Fire Katniss says “I trusted him [Haymitch]. I put what was precious [Peeta] in Haymitch's hands and he has betrayed me.”
Gale was never an actual option in the book. He was friend zoned and portrayed as Katniss’ cousin so that her only friend being interviewed during the 74th Hunger Games wasn’t a good looking male. They were not actually cousins.
Peeta had rooted in Katniss’ heart with the bread that saved her and she kept tabs on him. In fact she was upset he was reaped after she had volunteered. Katniss also references several times their eyes would meet at school only to flit away from each other. I would argue if Katniss was the spark then Peeta was the air that allowed it to catch fire.
There is no love triangle in the book
it was always going to be Peeta. A lot of his stuff from the book was cut.

A sampling of Katniss thoughts on Peeta throughout the books:
***I reach out and take his hand.
“Well, he probably used up a lot of resources helping me knock you out,” I say mischievously.
“Yeah, about that,” says Peeta, entwining his fingers in mine. “Don’t try something like that again.”
      “Or what?” I ask.
      “Or . . . or . . .” He can’t think of anything good. “Just give me a minute.”
“What’s the problem?” I say with a grin.
“The problem is we’re both still alive. Which only reinforces the idea in your mind that you did the right thing,” says Peeta.
“I did do the right thing,” I say.
“No! Just don’t, Katniss!” His grip tightens, hurting my hand, and there’s real anger in his voice. “Don’t die for me. You won’t be doing me any favors. All right?”
I’m startled by his intensity but recognize an excellent opportunity for getting food, so I try to keep up. “Maybe I did it for myself, Peeta, did you ever think of that? Maybe you aren’t the only one who . . . who worries about . . . what it would be like if. . .”
I fumble. I’m not as smooth with words as Peeta. And while I was talking, the idea of actually losing Peeta hit me again and I realized how much I don’t want him to die. And it’s not about the sponsors. And it’s not about what will happen back home.
And it’s not just that I don’t want to be alone. It’s him. I do not want to lose the boy with the bread.
“If what, Katniss?” he says softly.
I wish I could pull the shutters closed, blocking out this moment from the prying eyes of Panem. Even if it means losing food. Whatever I’m feeling, it’s no one’s business but mine.
“That’s exactly the kind of topic Haymitch told me to steer clear of,” I say evasively, although Haymitch never said anything of the kind. In fact, he’s probably cursing me out right now for dropping the ball during such an emotionally charged moment. But Peeta somehow catches it.
“Then I’ll just have to fill in the blanks myself,” he says, and moves in to me.
This is the first kiss that we’re both fully aware of. Neither of us hobbled by sickness or pain or simply unconscious. Our lips neither burning with fever or icy cold. This is the first kiss where I actually feel stirring inside my chest. Warm and curious.
This is the first kiss that makes me want another.
***In stark contrast to two nights ago, when I felt Peeta was a million miles away, I'm struck by his immediacy now. As we settle in, he pulls my head down to use his arm as a pillow; the other rests protectively over me even when he goes to sleep. No one has held me like this in such a long time. Since my father died and I stopped trusting my mother, no one else's arms have made me feel this safe.
***Go to sleep," he says softly. His hand brushes the lose strands of my hair off my forehead. Unlike the staged kisses and caresses so far, this gesture seems natural and comforting. I don't want him to stop and he doesn't. He's still stroking my hair when I fall asleep.
***He manages to wake me and calm me down. Then he climbs into bed to hold me until I fall back to sleep. After that, I refuse the pills. But every night I let him into my bed. We manage the darkness as we did in the arena, wrapped in each other’s arms, guarding against dangers that can descend at any moment
***I wish Peeta were here to hold me, until I remember I'm not supposed to wish that anymore. I have chosen Gale and the rebellion, and a future with Peeta is the Capitol's design, not mine.
***So what should we do with our last few days?”
“I just want to spend every possible minute of the rest of my life with you,” Peete replies.
“Come on, then,” I say, pulling him into my room.
It feels like a luxury, sleeping with Peeta again. I didn’t realize until now how starved I’ve been for human closeness. For the feel of him beside me in the darkness.
***I look up into those blue eyes that no amount of dramatic makeup can make truly deadly and remember how, just a year ago, I was prepared to kill him. Convinced he was trying to kill me. Now everything is reversed. I’m determined to keep him alive, knowing the cost will be my own life, but the part of me that is not so brave as I could wish is glad that it’s Peeta, not Haymitch, beside me
***Peeta and I sit on the damp sand, facing away from each other, my right shoulder and hip pressed against his.
After a while I rest my head against his shoulder. Feel his hand caress my hair.
"Katniss... If you die, and I live, there's no life for me at all back in District Twelve. You're my whole life", he says. "I would never be happy again."
I start to object but he puts a finger to my lips. "It's different for you. I'm not sayin it wouldn't be hard. But there are other people who'd make your life worth living." ... "Your family needs you, Katniss", Peeta says.
My family. My mother. My sister. And my pretend cousin Gale. But Peeta's intension is clear. That Gale really is my family, or will be one day, if I live. That I'll marry him. So Peeta's giving me his life and Gale at the same time. To let me know I shouldn't ever have doubts about it.

Everithing. That's what Peeta wants me to take from him.
"No one really needs me", he says, and there's no self-pity in his voice. It's true his family doesen't need him. They will mourn him, as will a handful of friends. But they will get on. Even Haymitch, with the help of a lot of white liquor, will get on. I realize only one person will be damaged beyond repair if Peeta dies. Me.
"I do", I say. "I need you." He looks upset, takes a deep breath as if to begin a long argument, and that's no good, no good at all, because he'll start going on about Prim and my mother and everything and I'll just get confused. So before he can talk, I stop his lips with a kiss.
I feel that thing again. The thing I only felt once before. In the cave last year, when I was trying to get Haymitch to send us food. I kissed Peeta about a thousand times during those Games and after. But there was only one kiss that made me feel something stir deep inside. Only one that made me want more. But my head wound started bleeding and he made me lie down.
This time, there is nothing but us to interrupt us. And after a few attempts, Peeta gives up on talking. The sensation inside me grows warmer and spreads out from my chest, down through my body, out along my arms and legs, to the tips of my being. Instead of satisfying me, the kisses have the opposite effect, of making my need greater. I thought I was something of an expert on hunger, but this is an entirely new kind.
***As I drift off, I try to imagine that world, somewhere in the future, with no Games, no Capitol. A place like the meadow in the song I sang to Rue as she died. Where Peeta’s child could be safe.
***When I wake, I have a brief, delicious feeling of happiness that is somehow connected with Peeta.
***By late afternoon I lie with my head in Peeta’s lap making a crown of flowers while he fiddles with my hair claiming he is practicing knots. After awhile his hands go still.
      “What?” I ask.
“I wish I could freeze this moment, right here, right now, and live in it forever,” he says.
Usually this sort of comment, the kind that hints his undying love for me, makes me feel guilty and awful. But I’m so relaxed and beyond worrying about a future I’ll never have, I just let the word slip out.
“Okay,” I say. I can hear the smile in his voice. “Then you’ll allow it?”
      “I’ll allow it.
***When Peeta holds out his arms, I walk straight into them. It's the first time since they announced the Quarter Quell that he's offered me any sort of affection. He's been more like a very demanding trainer, always pushing, always insisting Haymitch and I run faster, eat more, know our enemy better. Lovers? Forget about that. He abandoned any pretense of even being my friend. I wrap my arms tightly around his neck before he can order me to do push-ups or something. Instead he pulls me in close and buries his face in my hair. Warmth radiates from the spot where his lips just touch my neck, slowly spreading through the rest of me. It feels so good, so impossibly good, that I know I will not be the first to let go.
***I like to watch his hands as he works, making a blank page bloom with strokes of ink, adding touches of color to our previously black and yellowish book. His face takes on a special look when he concentrates. His usual easy expression is replaced by something more intense and removed that suggests an entire world locked away inside him. I've seen flashes of this before: in the arena, or when he speaks to a crowd, or that time he shoved the Peacekeepers' guns away from me in District 11. I don't know quite what to make of it. I also become a little fixated on his eyelashes, which ordinarily you don't notice much because they're so blond. But up close, in the sunlight slanting in from the window, they're a light golden color and so long I don't see how they keep from getting all tangled up when he blinks.
***You're alive," I whisper, pressing my palms against my cheeks, feeling the smile that's so wide it must look like a grimace. Peeta's alive.
***Sometimes when I'm alone, I take the pearl from where it lives in my pocket and try to remember the boy with the bread, the strong arms that warded off nightmares on the train, the kisses in the arena.
***My mockingjay pin now lives with Cinna's outfit, but there's the gold locket and the silver parachute with the spile and Peeta's pearl. I knot the pearl into the corner of the parachute, bury it deep in the recesses of the bag, as if it's Peeta's life and no one can take it away as long as I guard it.
***It's impossible to be the Mockingjay. Impossible to complete even this one sentence. Because now I know that everything I say will be directly taken out on Peeta. Result in his torture. But not his death, no, nothing so merciful as that. Snow will ensure that his life is much more worse than death.
"Cut," I hear Cressida say quietly.
"What's wrong with her?" Plutarch says under his breath.
"She's figured out how Snow's using Peeta," says Finnick.
There's something like a collective sigh of regret from that semicircle of people spread out before me. Because I know this now. Because there will never be a way for me to not know this again. Because, beyond the military disadvantage losing a entails, I am broken.
Several sets of arms would embrace me. But in the end, the only person I truly want to comfort me is Haymitch, because he loves Peeta, too. I reach out for him and say something like his name and he's there, holding me and patting my back. "It's okay. It'll be okay, sweetheart." He sits me on a length of broken marble pillar and keeps an arm around me while I sob.
      "I can't do this anymore," I say.
      "I know," he says.
***I wrap my arms around his neck, feel his arms hesitate before they embrace me. Not as steady as they once were, but still warm and strong. A thousand moments surge through me. All the times these arms were my only refuge from the world. Perhaps not fully appreciated then, but so sweet in my memory, and now gone for ever.
***It's a long shot, it's suicide maybe, but I do the only thing I can think of. I lean in and kiss Peeta full on the mouth. His whole body starts shuddering, but I keep my lips pressed to his until I have to come up for air. My hands slide up his wrists to clasp his. "Don't let him take you from me."
Peeta's panting hard as he fights the nightmares raging his head. "No. I don't want to. . ."
I clench his hands to the point of pain. "Stay with me."
His pupils contract to pinpoints, dilate again rapidly, and then return to something resembling normalcy. "Always," he murmurs.
***I raise my left arm and twist my neck down to rip off the pill on my sleeve. Instead my teeth sink into flesh. I yank my head back in confusion to find myself looking into Peeta’s eyes, only now they hold my gaze. Blood runs from the teeth marks on the hand he clamped over my nightlock.
“Let me go!” I snarl at him, trying to wrest my arm from his grasp.
      “I can’t,” he says.
***Peeta and I grow back together. There are still moments when he clutches the back of a chair and hangs on until the flashbacks are over. I wake screaming from nightmares of mutts and lost children. But his arms are there to comfort me. And eventually his lips. On the night I feel that thing again, the hunger that overtook me on the beach, I know this would have happened anyway. That what I need to survive is not Gale's fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that. So after, when he whispers, "You love me. Real or not real?" I tell him, "Real.

@@scahearn6279while you picked very specific quotes (and too many to read here, I admit), it's important to take the circumstances into account. If Katniss didn't volunteer, she would've ended up with Gale. He was her best friend, they were close and he obviously had feelings for her. Katniss is pragmatic, so he would make an easy, effortless choice.
If Gale agreed to leave district 12 after Katniss had won her games, she would've ended up with Gale as well. While he was not what she needed, he was at least comfort and safety, which is what she wanted. At that point her relationship with Peeta was icy, so no competition there.

Peeta wasn’t being a brat and discussing her feelings in the middle of the war. He is having a hard time differentiating between what truly happened in the last years and the brainwashing that was done to condition him to kill Katniss. That is why he was playing that “real” or “not real” game with her. He isn’t trying to hear her say she loves him just because he is insecure, he is truly still trying to get to know what is real and what isn’t.

So, something about Pt. 2 and Katniss’ mission:
In the books, she actually got sent along with the squad to the Capitol, she didn’t have to sneak into it. She had to go through weeks of combat and military training and pass the evaluations to show that she could follow orders and carry them out even when she doesn’t agree with them. Joanna was in the training too, but she didn’t pass her evaluation and was actually really devastated by it bc she wanted to be sent in as well.
The reason Boggs gave Katniss the holo was bc he knew that everyone else was under Coin’s orders. Katniss was the only one who could be trusted to get them where they needed to be and understand what they were going to face, as she’s been in the games twice and understands the gamemakers’ traps.
For Prim, I remember reading that scene in fourth grade and THROWING the book across the room and wanting to just cry. I think that scene was an amazing choice from Suzanne, as it really drove the message of the story. It’s also extremely painful, because everything Katniss did was for Prim and to protect her. Now, her reason for everything is gone. Again, war doesn’t care about intentions. It kills indiscriminately. The fact that the bomb was from 13 and Gale was part of developing the secondary trigger technology that killed so many is such a gut punch to Katniss, and why she can’t stand to see him later on.
In terms of the ending of the series- a lot of ppl didn’t like it and thought it was too happy or just didn’t end the way they wanted it to. I think the ending was perfect for the series. The games and the war literally destroyed their lives and their homes. Katniss was still a teenager during the events of the series, so by the time she became an adult and had to keep going, she found a way to cope along with Peeta and build a life together that they could find peace and joy in, despite their traumas and nightmares. It’s the happiest ending they could’ve had, and it’s also the most realistic one.
I know it may have been a bit anticlimactic for some, but it actually drove home the message of the entire series. Suzanne really understood that war doesn’t care about who you are or what you’ve done. It destroys everyone. And once war is over, people have to rebuild their lives and find ways of coping.
It’s wayyyyy to close to home right now, but I’m glad people are actually waking up to the reality that we’re living in and how we can absolutely make change if we fight for it.

    Alright here I go:
I am team Peeta for multiple reasons. First and foremost he’s just so un-toxic. He’s supportive, kind, fun, cute, sweet, romantic and has morals. He’s also patient. After he found out her ”love” was fake at the end of the first book, he wasn’t downright harassing her with questions and basically trying to force her to feel the same way (*cough* Gale *cough*). He just stood back and let her figure it out.
He’s not radical like Gale, doesn’t condone the killings of civilians even if they are from the capitol.
And at the end Katniss’ inner monolouge explains everything. It goes something like ”
what I need is not more fire and violence. I have enough of that myself. What I need is the dandelion, the proof that there is still hope even after significant losses. That life can move on and only Peeta can provide that
”
I also think that once you’re a victor you can basically only ever be in a longterm relationship with another victor. No one else will understand the nightmares and the PTSD. They’re just written in the stars, I’m sorry for the Gale girlies but even when I was 16 and reading this for the first time I understood that Gale never even had a real shot.
So there u go. Thank you for listening to my TED talk.

The Capitol started brainwashing Peeta long before he even warned Katniss about 13 being bombed. Peeta essentially has two sets of memories where one is reality and the other is of him in fight or flight fearing for his life and Katniss is trying to murder him versions of his real memories. They replay the games, interviews, any footage of him and Katniss together and describe and talk to him about other memories he has with her so that every memory is “contaminated” with trackerjacker venom. The reason he is able to break through to warn Katniss during that interview is that his memory of her singing was not contaminated so to speak and it brought him out of the internal battle of what is real and is not. When he asks Katniss if she loves him it’s because there’s a set of memories he has to navigate where she lets him love her so she can kill him. In the first movie she also lets him love her but to stay alive and at certain points was willing to kill him also so the line is very blurry. They also cut out a LOT of their interactions with book two and three in the movies that flushes out their friendship and relationship of bonding, supporting one another and understanding each other.

the reason she ended things with Gale was because earlier in the movie he came up with the two bomb idea with Beetee and Katniss thought is was a bit barbaric and that’s when she started seeing Gale in a different light. once she saw that the bomb in front of the Capitol , she put two and two together and realized Gales barbaric idea and President Coin putting a 13 yo Prim on the front line is the reason Prim got killed. Gale also doesn’t come to see her in the hospital because of the guilt he feels over his idea being the reason Prim dies, even though he promised to take care of her.

I read a comment once that summed it up well
it wasn’t just a matter of Katniss choosing one of the men. She was also figuring out along the way what she stood for when it came to the war itself and her whole mindset. Because the two men represented two different sides.
Despite the Capitol sending him to 2 Hunger Games, killing his entire family, and being tortured and brainwashed by them, in the end, Peeta still stood for peace. Whereas Gale had all this rage and hatred for the Capitol (rightly so), but it started to consume him. Hence you seeing him and Katniss’ friendship growing more and more contentious.
In the end, she says in the book that she knows her and Peeta would’ve happened regardless. She needed that calming, patient presence to bring peace to her life after everything that happened. The hope that life can be good again, despite all the loss they suffered.

I only just recently re-red all the books- as expected they are a lot more fleshed out. I find the romance too much in the film too, however in the books they make it much clearer that Gale was simply her only friend for years, she had a much more strained relationship with her mother therefore relied on him for support. When he started all the romantic crap she lost the only person she trusted because her platonic love wasn't enough for him. she wanted closeness and comfort because she's going through hell, and not romantic love. With Peeta at first it was an act, and she felt her life was indebted to him, she really didn't even think about him seriously in a romance way until months after returning to 12 and processing everything that happened. they obviously had to speed it up for the films but in the books it is clear her and Peeta's relationship evolved really slowly and on her end it was mostly concern, comfort, trust ,and shared trauma that didn't turn truly romantic until right at the end.

One of the big things about katniss having kids is that throughout the entire series ( in the book) she states how she does not want to have a child. Mainly because she did not want to have them go through the reaping process for the hunger games and didn't want to bring anyone into the world that she lived in.
Now, and a time of peace and with someone she cares about. She was able to get past that and start a family.

A few notes on this reaction:
    - Thank you for your bravery and integrity in voicing your support for Palestine- I didn't think I could love this channel more.
    - It's so funny what you said about how Tigris should've maked-up Gale and Katniss since she was a stylist in the games- bc that's exactly what happens in the book- Katniss and Gale were in wigs, full makeup, scarves and hats and full coats bc they also had fully loaded weapons on them (also it was a blizzard), Peeta even makes a comment about 'never underestimating the power of a talented stylist' and Katniss thought about how he seemed so much like his old self. That's why the little girl in yellow spotting Katniss was so dramatic- bc they were supposed to be in full disguises...annoying that they took that out.
    - It was mentioned briefly in this movie but it wasn't that Gale 'played a part' in prim's death- he literally designed the bombs and were showing the designs to Katniss and Beetee. Why Gale says "idk" to if they were his bombs is bc I guess the capitol could also have had similar weapons??
    - Katniss and Peeta have kids 15-20 years after mockingjay. I wish that was displayed better. The time jump is supposed to communicate that Katniss and Peeta ended up together but it took alot of time to grow back together - and even more time for Katniss to trust the world as a safe place- without the games- for her kids.

Finnick's death breaks my heart because he deserved a happy ending after everything he went through. At the very least, he deserved to see a world without Hunger Games and Snow. And to be with Annie, of course. The same goes for Prim who was just a 13-year-old kid. Unfortunately, war is cruel to everyone. It's heart-wrenching to think that everything started because Katniss wanted to protect Prim, only to lose her in the end. My heart goes out to Katniss, especially knowing that her mother left her in District 12 and never came back from District 4. She had nobody from her family on her side at the end, but fortunately, she had Haymitch and Peeta. I believe that Katniss, Peeta, and Haymitch are the definition of a found family. Their bond is truly precious, and they understand each other so well because they have the same experience of trauma. After everything, it's so beautiful to see them there for each other, trying to comfort each other and move forward together.
Now, let's talk about Peeta. He is one of the characters that the trilogy did wrong, especially considering he's one of the main characters. Josh Hutcherson did everything he could with the script he had, but the problem was in the writing. They cut his scenes with Katniss to push the Gale love triangle, and they failed to show the depth of his character and the complexity in the book. I don't even want to talk about his leg, which was such a significant thing to cut out in the films. Because of the erasure of Peeta, the Gale thing feels pushed in the films. Since they didn't show the progress on the Katniss and Peeta side, especially in Catching Fire, Katniss's feelings for Peeta deepened throughout the story. There were so many moments when they kissed, hugged, and had physical touch behind the camera. This is so important because it shows their sincerity, especially Katniss's. Most of the time in Catching Fire, Katniss is the one who initiates physical touch with Peeta, and she even yearns for those moments. There are moments in Mockingjay where Katniss puts the pearl Peeta gave her to her lips and imagines kissing him. They left out so many things that viewers saw their ending as rushed and irrelevant.

Peeta's baseline thought process throughout ALL the books is that Katniss doesn't like him back, especially not to the same degree he loves her. He's resigned about it, but he doesn't go out of his way to court her or get a definitive answer out of her like Gale (ew) does. It's more that the switch from having to act lovey-dovey to survive to a cold barely-friends dynamic plays with his heart, but Peeta knows that she doesn't mean to do that. I love that he told her that directly in Catching Fire, too! For most of the first book, Katniss thinks that Peeta is making up his crush to appeal to the crowd and get sponsors. She only realizes he actually has feelings for her when he starts recounting things about his childhood and watching her from afar. Katniss grows to care deeply for Peeta, but with Gale yammering in her ear at every chance about romance, she keeps shoving him away to protect herself from any possible pain

The boy is legit struggling here đŸ€Ł he literally thought she was a mutt that had been created by The Capitol.

in the books, they did do makeup for the disguises for the refugee infiltration part, but i assume they wanted jennifer’s face for prim’s death scene so they did away with it for the film. also, it was gale’s plan that got prim killed. he came up with the idea to bomb people, wait for medical staff to move in, and set off a second explosion. a horrible war crime by an angry, vengeful man that got someone he truly cared about senselessly killed

This love story feels more realistic to me. Sometimes your best friend becomes the one you can love a d trust. Also in the books it took perta and katniss like 16 years to have kids cause she was still so scared of bringing children into the world. Gale was not her cousin in the series. But originally he was supposed to be and the publishers/editors wanted that YA love triangle
which is why it felt so not right.

In the books as well as in the movies the cousin story is just a cover up, to have a plausible argument why Katniss hangs out so much with this other dude, when she is supposed to be head over heels in love with Peeta

  • @bexc348
    @bexc348 Pƙed 6 měsĂci +13

A bomb that had a delayed second blast was Gales idea, he mentioned it in the last movie in the weapons room. The idea was to draw in medics and more people once the first blast had gone off - derived from a hunting trap. He spoke about this with Beetee who was helping with the weapons designs for District 13 at the time. He knew the bombs were being made, he didn't care at the time about the actual casualties they would cause which led to a disagreement with Katniss. He knew they would've been used at some point, he didn't know when and obviously didn't expect Prim to be caught in the explosion.

I'm glad you mentioned the parallels between the movies and what's going on in Palestine. It's a bit sad how people will side with the oppressed in fiction, but when they see something similar in real-life, they sometimes side with the oppressors (not you guys, of course, but in social media, specially in traditional media, some people in general). I've seen a very viral tweet a few minutes ago related to this, where they shared a scene from Mockingjay ("if we burn, you burn with us") and were asking if they'd think she's a terrorist (or if what she did/said was, of course justified).

When I first read the books I totally agreed that Katniss should end up alone however the quote from the book is still adorable and makes me think someone is cutting onions in here. "Peeta and I grow back together.
Real or not real?" I tell him, "Real."

If I remember correctly (and I could be totally making this up, I’m not for sure lol), I believe the author said at one point that there was never meant to be a love triangle. Gale and Peeta were supposed to represent war and peace respectively, and it was just meant to be 2 people she cared about. I think the publishing company wanted a love triangle because it was popular at the time.

Someone on Tumblr wrote a very good post about Prim being doomed from the beginning and trapped by the narrative. The first line of the books is Katniss waking up and realizing Prim is gone before the Reaping. She does everything to get her back and keep her safe, but that’s not the real thing that matters, because Prim is already gone. What matters is she kept fighting.

This is most definitely one of the greatest Dystopian stories ever adapted to the big screen, but I think where the movies failed a little bit was the lack of symbolism that came across much clearer in the books. Mainly Katniss' inner monologue and motivations. E.g. Prim being the reason for Katniss' two biggest acts against Panem's dictators (the first volunteering and later the death of Coin), the parallel between Prim's cat and herself (she hated him because she believed him unlovable, just like herself and the ending with the cat is her making peace and allowing herself comfort) and MOST IMPORTANTLY the fact that it was never about romance. That is to say, it was, but it was never about choosing a romantic interest but rather an ideology - either selfish Gale who had violent, revenge-filled ideas about how to achieve justice, and who time and time again demanded for her to choose him, or selfless Peeta who continued to give her everything without asking for a single thing in return, who did not desire justice but peace. The boy who taught her how to shoot an arrow, or the boy who gifted her bread when he did not need to. The second she decides to kill Coin, to prevent a new Hunger Games, to discard the revenge and anger she felt in her heart, THAT was the moment when she chose Peeta. Whew.
So yeah, I totally get the frustration and Gale is a deeply annoying character in both books and movies, but he still had a purpose. Just wish they had kind of elaborated it further.
    Love you guys as always!

First of all, thank you for speaking up. Not a lot of people are and we need to be vocal on this issue, especially since it does reflect these films.
I wanna talk about Peeta having this constant issue with knowing if Katniss likes him or not, and it makes it worse because 1) It was supposed to be fake since the beginning but he clearly grew fond of her but knew of her connection with Gale. But 2) He was mentally fucked over by the Capital so him still having to ask if it’s “real” or not has nothing to do with what Katniss has said or did, just more of the trauma and manipulation he went through by the Capital so they could get him to hate her. The reassurance is rough to watch but it’s nice to know that after everything Katniss doesn’t have to take it or hide it for the sake of his life.
Loved your reaction!! (If you watch Divergent, have fun making fun of it because 2/3 of the films are horrible)

ok so from what I remember about the books "mutt" isn't about her ethnicity, it refers to the mutations that the capitol made like the mockingjays, the tracker jackers (those killer wasps in the first book/movie) and the dogs that chased Peeta, Katniss, and Cato to the cornucopia. Mutts are creations of the capitol used for warfare, and Peeta has been manipulated (with tracker jacker venom) into thinking Katniss is a creation that caused all of his suffering

When Peeta refers to Katniss as a "mutt", it's not a slur. It's short for "muttation", the name they give to all of the Capital's genetically enhanced creations (e.g. the tribute dogs in the first games, the jabberyjays in the second games, and the lizard people in the sewers during this movie.) The Capital programmed him to believe that she was nothing more than a deadly mutt that needed to be killed.
