This is one of those movies that are so light and nice that it feels sad because of how reality is. A woman becomes President of the US as a democrat with a mexican husband and a biracial son who is openly bisexual... and she wins Texas.
If only we were so open in real life 😭
I don't live in the US, but I'm gonna hold out hope that films like this is normalising the good stuff and closing the gap to reality 🥰
@@Jeneri1 as someone who does, me too! 🩷
@@kaepiper 💕
'Red, White and Royal Blue' is my favourite science-fiction fantasy romance movie
I love how this movie feels like a Disney Channel Original with sex scenes.
😂😂 so true!
It really does though
UR SO RIGHT
It really does 😂
YOU PUT IT INTO WORDS
This movie nailed the "How to make a good LGBT+ story" by:
1) Skipping the "Abuse" (way too common)
2) Skipping the "Double Standards" between the two main characters. Both guys are actually treated like men. Love them ❤
Just a nice healthy love story❤️
the only thing i wish is that they'd come on out on their own terms. but oh well
Treated like men?
@@habibadokubo-asari211 that’s pretty much impossible based on their popularity
Based on what I saw NOBODY was expecting this movie to be good in any sense of the word. Both actors had recently been in bad movies & a lot of people said it looked like they had no chemistry in the trailer.
But tbh I found it to be a gem where you can tell people still made an effort and everyone had a good time. It's a comfort movie for me 😊
Yes it’s definitely enjoyable ❤️❤️
I thought the casting was spot on and the actors had amazing chemistry ❤
@@rebeccamarch1984 Fully agree! I am willing to accept criticisms of several aspects of the movie but the one I will not tolerate is the chemistry. Like, argue with the wall! Lol
This movie had me at the trailer. I got the free amazon trial just to watch this movie. Loved it.
I would not call Bottoms a bad movie 😭😭
The entire seen of Zahra finding Henry in the closet made me laugh hysterically. She is so done with Alex’s drama. 😂
😂😂
That was one of my favorite scenes. She is straight up savage, lol
In the book, she doesn’t find him in the closet, he falls out of it
That is my favorite scene in the movie
SAME 😂
Nicholas Galitzine is just blazing trails for queer joy for a while. Also, brb screaming very loudly that you’re reacting to this without major prompting by us lol
😄😄
Isn't he straight?
yall should check him out in the new show hes in called mary and george
@@ziixgz Yes, I’ve heard about it
The emails in the book are so much more heartbreaking because it details so much of their family. In the book the president is divorced. And Alex doesn’t have a perfect relationship with his mom, so he talks about that, and Henry talks about his sister’s addiction (which the world wasn’t aware of) as well as his mom being depressed and neglecting them after his dad’s death and his grandma (the queen) treating them in an almost non-humane way. The emails had SO MUCHHHHH. Can’t recommend the book enough.
I think in movie they mostly only showed alex and henry what was their love was and the struggle and all. As the movie was only for mostly 2hrs so I think it’s the best they did cause if they focused more on this details it would’ve taken them to make a series on it. (Tbh i wish they make series with these two actors only)
The book is SO good!
I’m so here for Rizzo just being obsessed with Alex not slamming Henry against a wall 😭 and Benji crying over firstprince reunion 🥹
I’m so glad he called Alex out for not following through on his promise!
Benji if you cried at the movie, you have to read the book. that crap had me sobbing over and over again.
We’ll have to see lol
The emails and outing chapters had me SOBBING
@@Meleninmoneal03 it was so real and raw, though i appreciate the movie showing henry’s side more.
Audio book. Than you can 😭😭😭 and still consume it
he’d also see that it’s equal participation
Stephen Fry isn't just gay, he's THE gay!
He's been out for ages and is so amazing!
I knew he was gay from the “hoemoesecksuel”
He wasn't out during the first couple of years of his career - understandably so! It was a really shitty time to be gay back then. Fry has also spoken about how he was celibate for literally an entire decade when the AIDS crisis was waging - a choice that was self-denial and self-preservation in equal measures. My hot take is that they cast him of all people as the king in order to insinuate that the king himself might also be gay or bi but closeted. It would add a whole extra level of poignancy imho.
Blue Texan voter here - WE’RE TRYING!! Biden had 46.48% of the vote, we’re slowly inching our way thru but man do the Republicans + voter suppression make it hard 😭
Honestly being a bi Mexican from Texas this book felt like it was just so for me, I instantly adopted Alex into my cherished fictional character family. TZP did well with the role and you can tell that he and Nick took proper care of telling their stories. Benji getting emotional was the cherry on top!
😄😄
He could have practiced his Spanish a bit more 🤭. Other than that I have no other complains, both actors were amazing!!! 😻😻😻
@@sophiaamundsen9142 agreed, it needed a lot of work (wish they had someone to work w/ him on it or he could've even practiced w/ Nick since his Spanish is decent). But they did great with the characters themselves❤️
Good luck in 2024!
I'm rooting for you.
@@jwehopewait ✋️nick speaks spanish??? does he ever stop just getting more and more perfect??
🕊️ 🙏🏾 little known fact. This movie was dedicated to Taylor's (Alex) sister Kristy. Who was her brother's #1 fan and passed away from cancer during the production of the movie

watching rizzo pat benji on the back felt like a marvel reality break 😭
😂😂 definitely an alternate reality
I, with absolutely no shame, will admit that the enemies to lovers trope is the one and only I adore. In books, tv shows, movie, no matter how bad it might be. And lt all started with Anastasia and Dimitri
😂😂
One of the best couples of all time. I love everything about that film.
Have you ever seen The Untamed? Can't recommend it enough
Omg. Anastasia and Dimitri were my firsts too! 😂❤
@@sassylittleprophetI hear its not a romance. Also cdramas are so long!
Lord Ivar Mountbatten, a cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, came out as gay in 2016, five years after divorcing his wife, Penelope Thompson. Two years later, Thompson "gave him away" at his wedding to James Coyle, the first same-sex marriage of a member of the extended British royal family. The men live at a magnificent country estate, Bridwell, which you can rent for your own wedding or event. Lord Ivar seems to be the only openly out gay royal currently. There have been a few in the distant past.
Thank you for sharing this info!
Well, to be fair: Benji would have cried over the coming out scene in Heartstopper S1 if Nick didn’t feel the need to explain to his mom what bisexuality means 😅
I definitely saw that tear almost being shed… don’t deny it 😂
Lmao very true! 😂
he could've just said "im bissexual"
I'm currently manifesting a sequel to this or a Christmas wedding movie.
Awwwee yes!!
Watching this a little after the sequel was announced how are you feeling 😂
Woo hoo, it worked! Now if only I could make myself rich.
I, a Bi woman, cried too when I saw all those pride flags waving outside. It's OK Benji.
🏳️🌈🏳️🌈😭😭
The supporting cast deserves a separate comedy ensemble award or something.
As a member of the family 🏳️🌈 I love that all the baby gays have a GOOD gay cheesy love story that isn’t hard and sad and difficult.
Just regular tv movie problems and regular tv movie love.
Everything I wish I had as a kid.
I love how far we’ve come
Same!! 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈❤️❤️🙌🙌
Yesss! People are saying this is a cringe and cheesy movie and it is but I love it so much because of that.
if it were a straight couple this would’ve been a normal romcom
i felt the crying over "i would break the sound barrier for you" as soon as i heard that, i burst into tears for some reason, and i dont cry very easily
Right!? Not sure where it came from but it hit
the way i was punching the air when benji cried i never thought i’d see the day ❤
Same! 😂
Idk why but hearing Henry's sister saying "Reddit" in the most dramatic queen's english accent possible was so fucking funny to me
Even though I loved and adored the book, I didn't think I'd watch this movie and end up balling my eyes out...but I did. So I feel for Benji, for some reason seeing a gay film being so sweet and happy just made me cry. It really just creeps up on you lol
Yea, I was definitely caught off guard 😭😭🏳️🌈🏳️🌈❤️❤️
Admittedly my hubby is more of a crier than me but he cried during this movie lol. The actors' *chemistry* was amazing and I will defend that aspect of the movie 10000%
@@mariazamora6824 no absolutely same. they carried that entire movie with their portrayal of Henry and Alex and their chemistry. Casting was sooo important for this movie and they NAILED IT
I didn't think this movie would break Benji this bad😂😂😂 I mean, I knew he was gonna cry (cause it was the title), but I was expecting like a single tear ahah
Haha yea this movie GOT me 😂
this book has been my comfort book since it came out and it’s definitely better than the movie (which i definitely feel like is meant to be a less serious version)
Maybe we'll get Benji to read it! ;)
@@PinkPopcast he definitely should, it makes me cry but happy every time i read it🥹🫶🏽
I watched this movie and thought it was amazing, then I read the book after seeing a ton of people say that the book was a lot better and it did not disappoint

But only IN character lol
I've never cheered so loud in my life at benji FINALLY crying.
now let's all cry together ❤😭
😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️
As someone who was outed before they were ready, this hits me hard, I'm crying too, Benji! I love how it tackles the difficult stuff whilst also remaining a wholesome and adorable rom-com; I wish our reality was the world in this movie instead I'm fighting for the basic right of wanting to marry my fiancée in a church xx
Hopefully this world is on the horizon 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
In the book, Zahra has known the family since Alex was five. You must also remember that she just dealt with the cake incident. She probably saw the headlines flashing before her eyes. Still, she loves Alex like a mother and only wants to see him happy. Her reaction on finding Henry in Alex's hotel room, however, was valid 😂😂
The diffence between football and rugby... in the context of the kiss. Football was meant to be like playful kisses. But rugby was the serious intentional kiss.
Like the girls on new years were football, just playing & having fun
Henry was rugby, he was intentional with his actions and feelings.
Benji, I totally get it - some people cry most easily when something sweet and beautiful happens, because it doesn’t raise our emotional defenses the way sad/traumatic things do. 😊
Exactly!!
This movie getting Benji to cry? I totally, privately, called that 😂 I’m so freaking excited you guys finally could see RWRB! I knew it you’d like it! I love you guys!
😂😂❤️
"They're fucking, CONFIRMED"
This film made Taylor Zakhar Perez a star. We need him in more stuff.
OMG! I'm so excited to finally see your reactions! Also, I'm only seeing the thumbnail right now and Benji is crying?!?!? Omg I thought this day would never come😭😂 I just know this one is going to be good!🔥
Same!! 😂
@@PinkPopcastI snorted a bit when Benji starting crying. Shocked me as well. I rarely cry watching movies though. Also, Stephen Fry is gay. He married his partner on January 17, 2015.
Benji's heart grew 2 sizes!!! Love it!😀😃
😂😂
Even though the movie is obviously not based on a true story, the emails being hacked is based on a real scandal where phones of dozens of celebrities and public figures were hacked, including members of the royal family. But the most twisted thing about it was when it was discovered that, not only had phones of victims in terrorist attacks been hacked, but also the phone of a murdered teenager named Milly Dowler, which lead the police and her family to hold out false hope that she was still alive.
I can't believe some people have said that Nicholas and Taylor have no chemistry. Their connection felt so organic and effortless. I could feel the angst, the hurt, the longing, the love and the friendship. I really love how the sex scene is so much more than sex, it's truly making love. It was so intimate that I felt like I was intruding on something very personal between two people. This one of the most beautiful, complex romances I've ever seen in a movie. But also a great depiction of what it's like to be in a position where you are afraid to be who you are.
I totally agree about the sex scene. It was the most intimate I think I’ve ever seen in a normal movie. Their chemistry was off the charts, in my opinion, both on set and off.
Thanks for reacting to this great Rom-Com. It was fun, romantic, and sincere, and the powerful line at 39:03 "I'll break the Sound Barrier for You.." had me in tears too.
😭😭❤️❤️🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
The intimate scene was *so* well done! I kinda thought I was intruding on their private moment together. It was just so loving and sensual.

I was thinking "Rizzo's gonna cry for sure" and had to double take when it was Benji😭I love that!

it's impressive how such a silly little low-budget edit of a lgbt crowd reflected on glass can get to us HAHSHSUSHHAHS i felt so silly losing it and crying at that part too but it's just the cutest thing ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

I'm so excited!! I can't believe we will see Benji crying! 😂👏
😭😭
We FINALLY got Benji to cry. I have been waiting for this moment for so long.
Right? Lolll
This is the start to the Author's note from the book:
"I came up with the idea for this book on an I-10 off-ramp in early 2016, and I never imagined what it would turn out to be. I mean, at that point I couldn’t imagine what 2016 itself would turn out to be. Yikes. For months after November, I gave up on writing this book. Suddenly what was supposed to be a tongue-in-cheek parallel universe needed to be escapist, trauma-soothing, alternate-but-realistic reality. Not a perfect world-one still believably fucked up, just a little better, a little more optimistic. I wasn’t sure I was up to the task. I hoped I was."
They cut and changed things from the novel but I think the movie did a fantastic job staying true to the intent of the book.
There is a prince from India who did get his tittle taken away because he came out. But let’s face it I think the only people who cared was his fam cause everyone still called him a prince after that 🙌🏼
Alex and Henry really made History and in this channel...Benji crying is historycal
😆😆
i know im late but a very nice detail thats not mentioned in the movie is the fact that the emails leak was so much worse bec in the book its not only about their relationship but their families as well. in the emails henry describes how the royal family esp the queen and his brother (his grandma not grandpa) forced him into the closet, how he doesn't want to but still blames a little his mother who went mia after their dad died for not fighting for him and their sister, how beatrice had a drug addiction and used to have the nickname Powder princess but they kept it a secret and forced her to go to a rehabilitation center for a while. and alex goes on about his family, the challengings of having divorced parents when both of them are into politics, about how he feels like he is unintentionally forcing his sister (he has an older sister in the book called june who gets together with nora and pez
rizzo realizng that they hadnt bee having sex for the first half took me out for some reason his face was hilarious
😄😄
tbh book alex is so much more iconic, he comes out to his mum via a powerpoint presentation
Yay so happy you both enjoyed it!! (Benji def read the book or listen to the audiobook and let us know what you think of it at some point pleeeese 😊)
Yeah, I think I’m gonna have to
I watched this movie after having read the book several times and loved it. And then I made my daughter watch it with me. She absolutely loved it and started freaking out very early and said it was making her feel too much and started crying like a quarter of the way through and never stopped.
😭😭
Commenting for the algorithm, Benji is so real for tearing up at the "I'll break the sound barrier for you" like it's cheesy but its so sweet and it really was such a succinct way for the movie to show how henry and alex are always there for each other. I'm sure many others have already recommended the book but its so worth it even it you don't talk about it anywhere especially if you like the movie its obviously just allows for greater expansion on the main dynamic but also all the side characters

I honestly don’t know what’s sweeter, Benji’s feels or Rizzo knowing him so well he actively toned down his reaction to not overwhelm him ❤

you're not wrong lolol
@@PinkPopcastYAYYY
Listen the book is so much better because their relationship is established through emails that will absolutely obliterate your emotions with how sweet they are.
The "I'll break the sound barrier for you" line gives me goosebumps every time!
Idk abt the sound barrier but Benji’s lachrymose barrier definitely had a breakthrough. I think their banter and correspondence in general (incl. special BBQ Sauce) was really very cute ❤
I legit forgot Stephen fry is gay and married
Lord Mont-Batten who is a (second?) cousin to King Charles, is one of the first openly gay aristocrats in England. He was married to a woman and haad kids but now lives with his husband. And the Netherlands have made it legal for the crown princess to marry anyone regardless of their gender which is a first since she is the heir to the crown. So....progress I guess! Loved your reaction as always guys.
Awesome, we’re slowly getting there 🏳️🌈
The whole time I was squeeling, gasping, blushing, and tearing up along with you. Fav one so far ❤
❤️❤️
The book is amazing as well and Nicholas and Tyler were perfect as Henry and Alex. The whole cast was tbh
Best litmus test in the world for how well a movie handles the emotional weight of a queer love story is whether it gets Benji to tear up. He has such a high standard, so if a film resonates with him on that level, you know they did something right.
Haha that’s giving me a lot of credit lol but thank you 😊
Seeing Benji cry made me cry, because we never see him cry 🤣
❤️❤️
I'm so ready for this reaction I really Liked the movie I'm so hoping you guys do too.
waited for the cry for help in rizzo's eyes upon being subjected to another enemies to lovers story, less than two minutes in i am not disappointed
😂
Here for Benji simping over Alex and Henry simultaneously 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. But more for Alex😂😂
🥵🥵😂😂
Benji did not start singing my favorite Shrek the Musical song in the middle of RWRB. My heart stopped. I thought I was hallucinating or misattributing the song. I thought, “That can’t be from shrek. Benji is not singing Shrek.”
Lmaoo definitely shrek 😂
Get Low was played at my school’s senior Prom (which is what that party looks like to me) in 2018, but it was the clean version. Of course, we knew the best version was not the clean version so everyone that was singing (most of us) just sang the normal lyrics, and the DJ was told he’d have to turn off the music if we kept doing it because the teachers didn't wanna let a group of mostly 18-year-olds sing the curse words in a song 😔
Hahah yes! It totally looked like a prom
You guys need to watch Bottoms! Nicholas Galiztine is in it and it's so funny!
Omg omg omg omg omg yes yes I’ve been waiting for this one!
🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
Also both Alex and Henry were in a literal closet as a metaphor and then when they came out of the closet in the school is when they start showing chemistry building between these two😸😸
taylor and nick love alex and henry so much and you can see it in the way they brought these characters to life, i am so happy to have seen my comfort book turned into a comfort movie ❤
I love how the emotion just reach out and slapped you. It was like- feel !

I absolutely adored the book and when I watched this movie, I was so happy that they came through!! It’s so refreshing to get a gay love story where they actually end up together & we get a happy ending 🎉🎉
It’s funny that Rizzo called it when Henry threw himself in the water to escape the love conversation haha. Also, I was lowkey shocked when I saw Benji cry. It finally happened!!
I watched this movie with my bsf at school and OH MY GOD, I WAS OBSESSED!!
Not me smiling the entire time Benji was crying... Finally! haha. Really love this move and I've rewatched it more times than I should. Sort of gives me comfort.
😆😆
i was so scared the movie wasnt gonna live up to the book but i was so wrong. this movie CHANGED me
The book is absolutely hysterical. Especially the turkey scene.
After IWTV being a more toxic gay relationship, I'm glad Benjii finally got to watch this one! Its so wholesome and we need more queer romances of this tone. I was so obsessed with this the first month it came out
🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🥰
Gotta give a moment for Benji's jumper, it's giving Chris Evans from Knives Out
Yes!!🙌🙌
See I don't think that anyone who is straight can really grasp how deeply it affects queer people to see the scene where people are supporting them outside the palace. It's not just a "hey we support them. Who cares about traditional royal image?" but its also the symbolic power of "there is a future where queer people are celebrated in seats of power and are able to live without shame" and that's why Benji crying is so real.

I plan to, I just downloaded it on Audible lol
Another reason I love this book and movie is because it hits so close to home and that I wish this was the reality we lived in. Just has such a comforting and fun vibe to it
Reason number one being Zahra. freaking love that sassy queen

"He might have anxiety Benji"
"He might need to get over it"
Lol 😂
"When they write the history of my life, I want it to include you." That line hit DEEP! It actually had me tearing up so unexpectedly. Such a poignant thing to say and it really hits home how much of a public, and eventually historic, figure he is. I'm also cracking up at the dungeon where everyone who finds out about them is thrown into. Just watching all the people pile up one by one 😂😂 I also hope you guys can react to The Idea of You one day, also starring Nicholas Galitzine. I think it'd be such a fun reaction!!
There are various movies from my life that are my comfort movies to be watched over and over, and RWRB is the only movie in the past decade to make my comfort movie list. Taylor and Nicholas did an amazing job. Their chemistry is off the charts. The filming of the 'making love' Paris scene is one of the most beautiful love scenes I've ever watched. And Alex's line when they reunite on the stairs, "I'd break the sound barrier for you" makes me cry too. And yeah, it's wonderful to see a gay movie with two consenting adults having a healthy relationship where they genuinely have respect for each other.
