Exactly! They filtered at the end of the previous episode and he is a teenaged boy so yeah he comes and hangs out and wants some JubiNookie- seems pretty straightforward
Dammit why did Beau have to get himself fired I’m loving this show so much I worry what season 3 will be like without him.
Love how frightening Mr Sinister was in that episode.
That Madelyne vs Magneto fight was incredibly animated
Wolverine was the one most broken up about Morph's supposed death at the start of the original animated series. Also said he was the one person who could make him laugh. So they've definitely established their friendship both prior to the series start and throughout. Morph pining for Wolverine makes a lot of sense.
Yup, and Wolverine tracked him down after he left the X-men ..they were shown as best buds multiple times.
This episode was written by Beau and an old acquaintance of many of us in this space, Charley Feldman. On Screen Junkies back in the day. Is a Supervising Producer on the series as well. Very cool to see that 😃
They definitely had Morph flirt with Wolverine back in the original show too. When he came back from his death, he turned into Jean to screw with Logan’s mind.
I honestly wasn’t prepared for how much I’d enjoy this show. What a time to be a fan of this stuff.
OMG...this show is so damn good. Also...I think this was a better way for the Scott's reaction to Madelyne. Like wasn't it in the comic that Cyclops just left Madelyne and Nathan to go back with Jean with essentially NO remorse. This interpretation of the storyline was so much better.
Also, the 1st scene with Sinister and Madelyne... giving a "my body my choice" vibe from what Sinister said to Madelyne! A man telling a woman "your body belongs to me" and you have no choice in what I do with or to your body.
To Mike's point I think they could've had Sinister give her the name - it doesn't make "The Goblin Queen" any less ridiculous but its coming from a guy who everyone calls Mr Sinister so it tracks, and you could've had Jean's friend be called Madelyn so the clone is living on in her memory. Although she does say the life she lives will be her own, at least she would have some connection to the name, but they're minor quibbles about what was undoubtedly a great episode. I love the horror vibes, and that Morph turned into Magick from The New Mutants, which was touted as a horror take on the comic book genre, along with all the demons - it does make me want the MCU to do more in the horror realm 🙏🤙
What a damn good show X-Men 97 is!! It makes all the X-Men look like the bad-asses that they are, Madelyne Pryor is incredible! Forge!!
First - never saw the show in the 90s but really enjoying this one. Second - you can never be 100% sure that you not a new clone having all your original's memories.
The pace of this show (especially Ep 3) moves so fast, it feels like a recap to a show I haven't watched.
I would love to see Madilyn pop back up paired with Havok as a throwback to Mutant X
Claremont's run on X-Men will never be surpassed and I don't mind the animated shows doing things out of order and different. As an older guy I just hope that Feige stays a little consistent to the source when bringing them into the MCU.

It’s honestly very like the OG series to have a character say their “superhero” or “villain” name without any buildup or reason for it. There are so many characters in the og series that have a superhero name that are just there and never establish themselves as that. So it’s both kinda out of nowhere and very in line with the show to have Madelyn call herself the Goblin Queen haha
I just rewatched season 2 of the animated series and Wolverine and Morph were pretty close in that series too.
There’s an arc where Wolverine breaks off from the X-men to go after Morph after the team finds out that they’re still alive. Logan was the only one super adamant on bringing them back to the group saying “He was the only one you who could make me laugh”. At this point, Morph is suffering from Sinister’s brainwashing and kinda has this Jekyll/Hyde back and forth, each trying to assert control. So when Wolverine finally tracks them down in a bar, the two have a back and forth struggle and the conversation during the fight kinda intimated a bit of relationship or history. For a split second, Morph gains control of their old self and yells at wolverine that they need to find themself on their own and runs off. And then Wolverine says something like “I’ll be here when your ready.”
So I think the show even back then was trying to establish that Morph was kinda wolverine’s person on the team. They were bros for sure.

Goblin Queen did a partial Sharon Stone leg uncrossing ala basic instinct
I didn't see the leg cross but that costume. Probably as much or as little as you can get away with in a kids show.
Inferno was my favorite X-Men story line and i always wanted in the animated series, shocked they were able to do it coherently in one episode. So happy I got my wish so much later.
Mike you should check out Tom Taylors Xmen: Red run! Its the best xmen run of the last decade imo. And possibly the best Jean Grey story of all time...
The fast pace i agree with. But like the 90s show, some episodes were also packed. The difference with xmen 97 is the fact that there are no commercial breaks when you watch it. Imagine 4 commercial breaks (cliff hangers) in crucial moments and the pace would be similar, i think, with how packed some 90s episodes were.
While I enjoyed episode 3, I did find it to be rushed. It would have been better if they had dedicated two episodes to this story arc.
This episode hit on a bunch of story beats from the time that I collected the series. They did a pretty good job, though condensing the 70+ issues of Maddy Pryor's story into this one episode cut down on the emotional heft (to me) and was rushed. They made it work and the only real emotional beat that they missed out on was letting Cyclops off the hook. In the comics he abandons Maddy to go start X-Factor and be with the newly resurrected Jean.

I hope all of Hollywood is paying attention. X-Men 97 is the epitome of 4 quadrant entertainment.
Little confused on two points;
1-didn’t we see an adult Sunspot in the old series in the Genosha arc?
2-Speaking of Genosa, that’s where we first meet Cable(he helps Gambit get his collar off).
Then the next time we meet him(where he says “skip Cyclops and Jean Grey “ to his computer), fighting The X-men and Bishop, Jean scans his memories and sees he’s her abs Scott’s son.
Has she forgotten that in the new series?
Or did the writers of the show change it ?
Otherwise the show is awesome!
I took the name Goblin Queen because she was taking the baby. I still don't understand why Sinister switched them in this version because before the clone was due to Jean being dead at the time. But, whatever, it was awesome

Another great episode, this season is dope so far. I don't get why all the producers preached all this trans crap when Morph doesn't even act trans at all. And he still transforms into his original Kevin looking form, so it seems the comments from the producers were nothing but rage clickbait
How do you act Trans? Because Morph is non binary, doesn't going to act anything other than act like himself.

@@IndianaJake true. But when at home he is in their "normal" form but when they are out and about they takes the "Kevin" form. But they are comfortable in any form, and acts like the gender of the form they take instead of choosing only male forms.
Who knows but also many shape shifters and bots fall into the non binary box. Shrug. I'm just glad the show is good and the characters are true to the original show.
@@mrs.paperweight6036 Yeah I thought his normal grey form is a nice inclusion, as other shapeshifters we know have a natural form such as Mystique's normal blue form.
I just don't buy into that retcon some of the creators said about all shapeshifters being non-binary. That just doesn't make any sense. The shapeshifting is a power just like any other mutant power. Everyone is born anatomically one way or the other, we all know this (barring some very rare cases). We all know Mystique's natural blue form is very clearly female. So to me comments like that go a little too far and are just pandering at that point.
Days of Future Past, Fall of the Mutants, Inferno was definitely my big introduction era to the X-Men, so a lot of love for it. To see them boil the Inferno story down to one episode was a bit saddening but impressive. I love how they just dealt with Madelyne as a clone of Jean who everyone believed was Jean, including Madelyne. Frankly, much as I love Inferno, it was kind of better than the convoluted story Claremont came up with -- first to write Cyclops out of the series and give him a Jean he could retire with after her death, even though everyone was supposed to believe she was a random someone else who just happened to look identical to Jean; then had to twist to fit the company's plan to line up with them bringing Jean back to life for X-Factor -- in the comics. Great episode.
I do think this could have been expanded to at least 2 episodes.
This show is spectacular!
Fucking incredible episode. Everyone complaining about the animation can kiss my ass, the original show NEVER looked that good. The animation on the action and the dream creatures and manifestations was super well-done. Such a trippy episode, and a great little adaptation of the Madelyne Pryor storyline.

why is Michael half the volume as John? the last few video's I've watched have been like this - John is always louder (volume wise) than everyone else - if I turn it up to be able to hear what Michael is saying - John may as well be shouting - PLEASE FIX THIS

It’s clear that the creators of the show aren’t concerned about entertaining kids, they’re more concerned with “what can we technically get away with”. I’d never let a sub-10yr old watch it. Seriously ADULT themes. Great show tho
