  • VITAMIN D, SUN AND WINTER
The sun is said to be one of the greatest source of vitamin D. However, winters mean that we won't be exposed to sunlight for long and the rays will be soft.
Little exposure to the sun can lead to a vitamin D deficiency, which in turn can affect your bones and overall health.
Dietary sources to support vitamin D levels during winter include orange juice, yoghurt, margarine, breakfast cereals, fortified cow's milk, plant- based milks, salmon, and yoghurt.
    WHAT TO DO?
Here are 5 ways you can fulfill your daily vitamin D requirement during the winters.
During winters, you need nearly 2 hours of sun exposure on 10% of the body, and more if you have darker skin. Put on a sunscreen and go out even if it's cold.
The Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health says that supplements are more reliable than diet alone for vitamin D.
Try to let in as much sunlight as possible at your home by opening the door and window curtains. Do not stay in the dark.
When you go out for sun exposure, try doing it when the sunlight is as its highest - preferably around noon.
