some bullets are stupid fast and/or have thin but dense metal cores that don't deform and slow down as easily as other bullets, so many bullet proof glass panes have more than 4 layers. the thickest bullet proof glass panes known to the general public are the ones used in the US presidents limo. based on footage of the doors being open people estimate the panes are about 5 inches (130 mm) thick, which is about twice that of the thickest commercially available bullet proof panes which are rated for most .50 BMG amor piercing bullets. unsurprisingly more than the limos windows are armored but that's beside the point.
FYI, it doesn’t reduce the bullet’s force. It reduces its pressure. Force per unit area is pressure, and if the same force is distributed over a wider area, you have less pressure.🤓
I used to manufacture these. The thinnest layer of glass is at least an inch thick. The plastic in between layers is polystyrene, which is what styrofoam is made from.

that plastic he's referring to is actually called urethane, with is a glue sheet that feels likes like rubber but is activated through high heat. In bulletproof window product, you have the hard side, or known as the threat side (military/law enforcement terms). Some designs have plexiglass in between the threat side and first layer of urethane sheets, some don't. But between every glass pane is a urethane sheet and everything is held together by a rubber belt called edge seal (main majority of applications use edge seal in black color, but sometimes other colors, depending on the window's application). The windows can have multiple layers and weigh several hundred pounds (i used to work in a factory that built bulletproof windows for the military and first responders that used them). The soft side is also known as the safe side, under military and law enforcement terminology. The threat side is the strongest end because it can't be scratched (unless your blade can handle diamond-edged panes) whereze the safe-side needs another pane of glass (known as cover plates) to protect them from damage (the safe side fails inspection easily due to severe vulnerability to scratches and gouges). But in between the cover plate and safe side is a thin layer of light-adhesive paper-tape known as poly to prevent accidental scratches. Everything is carefully secured into air-tight bags and after the air is suctioned out, the completed windows are placed in a massive vacuum-oven called an autoclave.
hey man i found your comment informative and intriguing even if some people just don't have the mental capacity to read a couple paragraphs without falling asleep. Don't listen to the tools above me.
This is why it wasn't a fail that the cybertruck's windows showed damage and why Elon's "it didn't go through" was valid, many people assume bulletproof means no damage or the bullet can't get through at all, but it's literally layers of glass and fiber-like plastic that catch the bullet, same thing with bulletproof vests, there's just lots of layers of things to catch bullets
The bullet was so strong that it bent the air molecules around it forcing the plastic layer to absorb the shock of the bullet before it even got hit, Keep in mind that all of this happened while the bullet was stuck in 1 place mid-air.
@@Elaine-ji1et Why risk that if the modern one is better? If someone was hit by the loose bullet, it wouldn't matter who did it bc they'd be injured regardless.
