    Story 1:My question is:Did those neighbours just tell the paint company:"We give money,You paint house"
    And did the company just assume that they owned the house without checking who actually owns it?
    Because if that's what happened,Then this is stupid
    The solution is for OP to hire that same company to paint the neighbours' house yellow

    • @punksandpoodles
      @punksandpoodles Před 2 dny +99

      I was thinking this too? like, the painting company SHOULD be liable for just painting a house they have no proof is owned by their client. if I called them right now, gave a random address and said, "I'm outta town, paint my house puke green" both I and the painters would face no legal issues? insane

      Depends on where OP lives and how the paint company ordering system works.
      Let's say they use a system to only give them your color choice, number of the address, and photos of which house it is and the company only reports the progress and accidental breakage then it's possible.

    • @Tustin2121
      @Tustin2121 Před 2 dny +24

      Right?! There is no way it is just *legal* for the paint company to paint a property they don’t have permission to be on. That’s trespassing at LEAST. By this same logic, someone could just pay some random person on the street money to graffiti a property and that’s just somehow legal? Just because it’s a professionally done job doesn’t make it all well and good!

      @@SailorMya Pre-reddit days or I could be on that list.
      I once got fired because my golden-child brother stole from the store that he worked at. I then got in trouble with my parents both for him being caught stealing and me being fired for it.
      We worked at two different locations of the same brand of store. He stole from his workplace. My mother when in, pitched a fit, threatened everyone and their uncle if they tried to discipline dear brother, argued it wasn't stealing (he just 'forgot to pay for all of that merchandise in his bag), etc., etc. For some bizarre reason, and also terror of my mother, that store kept my brother on without even a write-up. After much theft and finally surveillance from head office, who didn't give two flips about my mother or brother, he was eventually fired (I also got in trouble for that but that's another story), though lucky for him not prosecuted (mother stepped in again, and HO folded on that part).
      Of course word got out that my brother had been caught stealing from the store (the first time). So, I got called into my manager's office at the start of my next shift and was summarily fired. The manager said something to the effect 'birds of a feather flock together - if your brother is a thief you will be one too. And, either way, I'm not going to deal with your mother even if you're not a thief' (as if my mother would ever stand up for me like that).
      I had to call for a ride home early. I got in trouble for being fired because it could never be because my brother was a thief - the poor darling isn't one - so it must be that I was slandering dear brother, and that I was not just a thief myself but a lousy thief who managed to get caught.
      And now they wonder why I have moved across the continent and gone no contact with them all...

And the very first rule is that the only colours that houses are allowed to be painted are all of the colours that those crappy neighbors hate the most (first and foremost, YELLOW 🟡). With a little bit of subterfuge and trickery, the crazy neighbors could probably even be convinced to sign up for the HOA. Only afterwards would they find out that OP is the HOA president, and the other neighbors who don't like the new arrivals are the vice president, treasurer, bylaw enforcement officer, etc. So now everything that they hate about OP's and everyone else's homes is considered to be a requirement, and they'll either have to conform or move away.

Oh and then Sarah lied to mommy dearest which brought a “righteous mommy anger storm” because I bet Sarah is the golden child. I can't believe that it's perfectly legal and if I was in OP's situation I would hire a panting company to paint the redhead neighbor's house yellow or get the other neighbors to paint their houses yellow and see if the redhead neighbors are going to waste probably hundreds of dollars to repaint the houses.

    • @better.better
      @better.better Před 2 dny +4

      yeah it's not legal, and doing that would only escalate things rather than resolve the situation. OP did the correct thing by keeping their own hands clean and let the neighbors dig their own legal grave, instead going to a lawyer. having video proof of them "casing the joint" on the day the painting contract was set up, plus proof of previous legal action on this topic, was enough, but a lawsuit for the cost of the painting is the nail in the coffin.
      weird that they choose grey as the new color... maybe they were strictly thinking about making it very difficult to go back to yellow? kind of funny since that meant it would be like 3×-4× more expensive when the court ordered them to cover the cost of painting it back to yellow. and what if Louisiana is a treble-damages state? that would be 3³ the cost of painting the house!
      another thought, the painters would need to get an estimate first, that means they WOULD have had to trespass to get measurements and again to do the painting. there's only so much you can determine from a couple of photos from the street.

    Had a cousin go through a similar situation as the house painting story in North Carolina that leads me to believe the neighbors had to pay to have OP's house repainted.
    My cousin is a graffiti artist in his spare time (he did a few murals for the city and some businesses) naturally he has covered his house in his art and it looked amazing. The issue is that he lived across the street from an HOA, my cousin is not a part of the HOA. (The HOA boundary is the street he lives on) My cousin went on vacation and came home to find his art gone and his house now a "picture perfect, white, HOA house" and he couldn't do anything about it until the HOA sued him. It took about a year but my Cousin was awarded his legal fees and what he would charge to do 4 full wall murals, based on what he charged businesses in the past and accounting for the size of his house. Also this incident was partly responsible for the city abolishing this particular HOA, this being the straw that broke the camels back.

To me that made it sound like she knew he liked OP and was trying to help him date OP??? a few guesses: the sister had a psychotic break, or she's addicted to drugs, or maybe both. All the things the family would do together, all the vacations, events an outings, hell even your friends (if you even had any) were just coping mechanisms. Now that my sister has been out of my life for a year I just feel empty, everything I was and did growing up was for her and to keep her and my autistic brother happy.

      I am sorry that you had this type of family dynamic growing.
      I was going to say that I'm sorry that you are feeling empty right now, but I'm not (sorry). I am, however sorry that you are uncomfortable.
      As someone who also left a similar type of family dynamic, and who knows an unfortunately large number of people who have as well, please let me reassure you that the emptiness you are feeling is, surprisingly and ironically, 'normal' for your situation (I hate the word normal but lack a better one here). It is also unfortunately an uncomfortable early stage proving that you are taking steps to become Your own Self. (good job!). As you learn more about who you are as a person without the overwhelming sway of your family of origin, you will fill that emptiness inside Your Self with so much joy and excitement and love and interest in life, and yes sometimes also sadness and anger, etc. too. You will fill Your Self with a full range of emotions that you were never properly able to experience while living under the thumb of your FOO.
      When I first separated from my FOO, like you and so many others, I just felt empty. It was uncomfortable and scary, and I didn't even know where to start - I quite literally didn't even know which flavour of ice cream I liked to eat. I ended up trying 'everything' to see what fit and what didn't. I started sampling ice creams to figure out which I like, but I also visited the library and took books from different sections each time, I tried different radio and YT channels, I took classes at the local community centre, I looked into different hobbies, visited new parts of the city where I lived, etc. I tried to never invest too much (time, energy, money) on any on thing until I got to sample a few genres within a category. But, I also managed to start at least with 'for sure don't like' and cut those options out, while continuing to try, and repeat try the options that resonated with me. Eventually, I eventually found the things in life that worked for me. In the process, I found people who enjoyed that I found things that I enjoy and I built a circle of friends and a chosen family along the way.
      It is a scary, uncomfortable place to be in that empty space. But, a therapist reminded me that I was strong enough to live with my FOO, so I was also strong enough to figure out who I am as a person in my own right. He also taught me that I was worth the effort to find out.
      You are strong enough to figure out who you are as a person in your own right. And, you are absolutely worth the effort to find out.

    The paint story:
    OP could also geothermal historical society involved depending on how old the house is and have them sue the neighbors too.
    My family lived in very old home, and my grandmother wanted to paint it blue, but the historical society actually was able to legally stop the painting and said she could pick from 3 colors only due to the historical society by-laws for painting older buildings to preserve history. The house colors were; white, brown, or yellow. The house stayed it's "shit brindle brown" my grandmother called it because of that.
    Now in Louisiana might have different laws but technically of the house is old and they went with a none historical color, the grey, then technically they could get their local historical group involved.

    The neighbours would go bonkers in Austria. Yellow was apparently considered a royal or special colour for buildings. There are SO MANY official buildings, castles, palaces, and normal houses painted yellow!

    Rslash, I think you are forgetting about the 8 year old that smashed the car because her brother got a car and not her. She is definitely more of the golden child.

    did the painting company not check ID to make sure they were painting the right house? now I am at 2:59 so I don't know how this story ends... but if OP didn't take the chance to pull a UNO reverse card on the neighbours I will be disappointed.

    First story, OP needs to form a HOA and require every house to be yellow.

    Who is so mad about someone else’s house color so much to the point that they would sue, paint, and sue again?

    I hope house painting OP was able to take the neighbors to court for the costs of repainting it yellow 😂

    Story 2: Missing info. Did she start actually dating Jay after the whole debacle, causing the sister's further mental decline?

    The house paint story is insane! That has to be some sort of vandalism to it.

    the painter story is the equivalent of a scenario where if you hired a roofing company to redo your roof but they mistakenly redo the wrong house instead. It’s on the company to verify everything and it doesn’t seem like they did so considering how they never went to the owner of said property for verification whatsoever
    the company is absolutely liable for this
    this is not a scenario of good faith its pure negligence💀

    There’s no point in understanding the parents’ logic because there isn’t any.

    I would paint my house purple so fast, the neighbors heads would spin!

    1. Story:
    At the very least what the company did was vandalism and then the company needs to sue the couple
    2. Story:
    The sister played matchmaker and then gets angry because she has a thing for Jay? Dafuq, thats just stupid
    She is nuts, so are the parents

    OP’s sister needs serious help. It sounds like she’s built an entire fantasy world with Jay. And the parents are enabling it instead of seeking out professional help.

    Damn, I really wanna know what happened with those psycho paint-happy neighbors. Shame there’s no update, as I seriously doubt it took 8 years with the solid evidence they gave OP.
