I'm South Asian and let me tell you, everyone here is obsessed with looking as pale as a ghost. Fair/ "white" skin is the beauty standard here (its a common occurrence where girls who are tan can't get married easily). If you're fair, you're pretty.
Seeing such a contrasting difference in beauty standards absolutely ASTOUNDS me and it always has. Makes me think what we even consider real beauty at this point. Everyone just wants what they don't have.

The laws that they have for Uv light are in place for the risk of cancer and crap. i was reading some history about radiation and didn’t even realize that we have laws against exposing people to a certain level of radiation. Smaller people naturally have higher levels then larger people surprisingly but it was the first time I seen the laws about these level..and learned that even cell phones give off radiation. My mom got skin cancer from tanning every day from the time she was a teen & it got really bad. A lot of people think it’s a simple surgery but if it gets to your bones, it can easily kill you. It really is an addiction because you don’t feel like yourself when you’re not tan. She continued to tan & got cancer multiple more times until finally she realized it was a real problem. It took a long time for her to be happy with her looks, even to go out in public.

Tanning beds/salons no longer exists in Australia. As someone who now resides in Australia, Ken, you could look into this. From memory (which could be wrong), I think a 26 year old female died from skin cancer, caused by tanning beds. More research was done to look into the health affects caused by the tanning beds, and the salons in Australia were all shut down. Possibly because we don’t need a higher risk of skin cancer, when we are the top country in the world for the rate of skin cancer already.

@@Sebastian-fy3hu correct. Different uv spectrum and not the same as being in the sun. Does not create vitamin d. However I do tan and feel relaxed afterward? When I tan in the sun I notice how my body reacts differently and I do feel the anti depressant qualities. I believe you only need 15 minutes sun uv exposure in the morning and half hour later in the day can improve mental health. 6minutes in a tanning bed is close to an hour in the sun, and a lot of your body is exposed. With proper sunscreen and hydration.
