Oh man, it's Davecat. I first saw this guy on an old documentary from 2006 called "Guys and Dolls." Honestly, after 15 years, it looks like he's still pretty consistent with his opinions and viewpoints. Even back then, he was always advocating for synthetic partners but also still rational enough to know his dolls were ultimately just dolls. The dude obviously has some emotional or psychological history that led to his preferences, but as long as he's not hurting anyone, let him be a weirdo in his own home lol.
I think a lot of the criticism of this video stems from Davecatâs unique style. âGuys and Dollsâ and some other similar docs also featured a few very ânormieâ people who keep their dolls a closed door secret-they get much less interest. Some of them were less realistic and consistent than Davecat; theyâd have families of dolls or pretend to be one until someone noticed. As said above, Davecat seems like a guy with maybe some trauma, and maybe some abandonment issues. The consistency of a âpersonâ who he can count on to be present may be really comforting. It may sooth some attachment disorder (not to armchair). Who knows. I do recall he did add another non-latex lady to the constellation several years back. For a kind of romanticized(?) take on these kind of relationships, the movie âLars and The Real Girlâ with Ryan Gosling is really good.

The thing that makes this much weirder than the balloon fetish is that this guy's relationship with his doll is all about control. He controls everything, from where she sits to what she wears to what color hair she has. That's why it's creepy. He can't be with a human because he won't have that kind of control.

As a student of psychology, the conversation acknowledging that psychologists ARE professionals was very refreshing.
My brother got his masterâs degree in counseling. Last year I spent 8 days in the depression unit of a local mental hospital. The year before I did a month of partial hospitalization (day program) at the same facility, although it was very different.
I finally found the right therapist for me. Heâs a trauma therapist I see weekly and have had for over a year. A PTSD episode landed me in that inpatient hospital stay, but that was very good for me. Iâve been seeing psychiatrists without any breaks since I became chronically ill at age 11.
It is a *noble* profession. Carrying the weight of others is not something most people can or would want to do for work.
I took Psychology I in college, but the professor was changed a few days before class started, and she has just stopped doing exclusively research. Iâm not comparing what I learned to you. Donât get me wrong. But after most students failed the first exam, she said that we should all be thinking like professionals by then. đ Wow. Psych I is such a common elective, and then a few students may be inspired to move forward with it. I got at least an 88 on that test, but it wasnât easy. I learned a lot

Here in America, most psychologists are looking to find out what's wrong with themselves. When it comes to someone else... they have NO idea what they're doing.
Therapists often have issues with control and admitting their own mistakes. Which is a very bad mix with the profession that is their work. At least for their clients.

That part when you mentioned it's literally hikikomori is so accurate. It's also a very sad culture to see because it always ends up in MAJOR social withdrawal and spikes in depression and suicide rates. I really hope that this guy does heed the reality checks and does continue receiving the help he may need. And I don't mean this sarcastically, I genuinely think that he could use some help and it might really help if he just lets them. I also hope that he can one day open up to relationships again and maybe be able to understand not all girls will cheat on you. Trust, I learned the hard way through lots of intensive therapy that "All-or-nothing Thinking" is not a healthy cognitive distortion to apply on every single relationship you run into, or relationships as a whole. It will only leave you constantly paranoid of ever going into another relationship ever based on a negative experience you may have had in the past. It's also mixed with some "Fortune Telling" Cognitive distortions where he's predicting events that he doesn't know is actually gonna happen. Not every girl is gonna cheat on you, and no not every relationship you run into will be toxic or end up in disaster. [Edit] I just wanted to mention that for "Fortune Telling" distortions, if you are thinking "Every relationship I run into will be toxic or end in disaster", you first need to take a close, hard, unbiased examination of yourself before you can write it off as fortune telling. The reason is because if every relationship you are running into is toxic, the problem may lie within YOU. So writing it off as a distortion will be enabling yourself to continue "running" into toxic relationships when you may be the one causing it. Ok just wanted to leave that in there so I don't get misconstrued

I think the situation for these kind of people who find âloveâ in non human ârelationshipsâ is where they lack in the ability to connect with an actual human being which includes avoiding judgment. So they fall in love with the idea of having an emotion bond to something. Sexually might make the bond more ârealâ maybe. But being alone or the way a person might grow up being judged for their interests might lead to them wanting to stray from actual people relations. If anything this is not as Creepy but just sad. I wish that wasnât the case where people are lonelier despite the fact that you can talk to someone anytime anywhere, but itâs the life weâre dealt. We all have our coping mechanisms, his is just odd in our perspective. To him, itâs socially acceptable.

It's a different case if they are controlling each and every movement of their pets. Otherwise, they can be doing their own thing while the pet companion is on their own. Obviously, in most cases, they do find a partner. There are relatively few people who spend their entire lives with just their pets and no one else.
