She really tried to get rid of the rat poison by buying it to throw it away. Sis they have more in the back, and the more they sell the more they get in future shipments. You're literally contributing to higher demand.
This plus I would assume thereâs a chance that a wild rat will find that poison in the landfill trash. Itâs a dumb strategy on so many levels
@@Usagi393 not just rats too, cats and dogs, depends on where she despoce of it
ahhhhh, capitalism
Yeah lol exactly. Just annoying the workers who have to put them back.
Throwing it away is super concerning because this could effect plenty more animals than just rats. Aside from that, if she really wanted people to stop selling rat poison she could talk about the fact that birds of prey and other important native predators will consume rats affected with poison and it will kill the predator as well, owls are a big casualty in the rat poison industry.
Considering how so many people with animal addictions could care less about their pets' medical care, I actually admire this lady for bringing her rats to the doctor

As worrisome as her behavior is, I do feel for her loss. Losing a pet is always hard because they're family, even more so when you've had them for a long time. I hope she breaks this spiral she's going down and starts to get better.
Can confirm rats smell like nachos. Also they are great pets and this show is stupid.
I had to stop keeping them because they are honestly like little dogs, they are smart and affectionate - but they have such short lives. Like this woman, I grieved every time. It became too stressful.
Mine smell like puppies, like honey and milk đđđ
Mine used to roll over for tummy rubs on command.
Iâve had over 20 rats in total. Each death hurt me a lot, especially my favourite boy, Prince, who lived for 5 years and bonded really close with me. I now only have one rat left, Frank, as his three brothers passed away within a month of each other. Iâm not getting anymore after my last one passes as it really is too much to deal with emotionally when they only live 2 years on average and the vet bills are quite expensive.
PS: My boys usually smell like buttered popcorn.
rats absolutely smell like corn tortillas I have had pet rats too

@@XxTechnoCakezxX neither did sheđ
Was hoping someone was going to point this out, rats and other animals that go digging through the trash
Rat poison is SO dangerous & is actually causing the demise of other species who rely on them as a food source. Birds of prey, foxes, wolves, mountain lions, etc. IF you have a wild rodent problem, use humane traps & release them elsewhere, or as inhumane as they are, the old fashioned spring traps. Too many other animals ingest the poisoned rodent & die from it
That shit was in Ratatouille
I really hate how they added in all the squeaks because rats really donât make noises unless they are fighting with eachother đ
That's one of the reasons I got rats. They are ESAs and the little to no noise helps. Whenever I watch movies/tv and they put in the rat sounds I'm like 'dude. come on. that rat is just chilling for a yogi.'
I had 2 rats and they were amazing!I saved them from a snake (he fed well on dead ones). These beauties were amazing from day one! One could actually backflip (when she fancied) and they would ride on me as my hair accessories, visit my friends during class in college and come back to me when called to go home. My rats were absolutely awesome!! I miss my girls. Rip Lilly and Violent (aka violet).
Lol "Violent" that sounds like a name she earned đ
As someone who owns 3 rats used to be 4, they are extremely clean animals they constantly groom themselves. But you have to remember that feral and domestic rats are VERY different
Also with the whole rat poison thing, I disagree on her hiding it. There are many feral rats that bring in parasites diseases, feral and domestic rats are extremely different in so many ways.
Except for the fact that they constantly pee to mark their territory
@@elijahtaboy yeah, true
Update.I now have 1 rat.
@@ohthatsnice7323 Did the 2 step in the one you have now's pee?

Ken is right in that there is a difference between how sanitary pet rats are compared to feral rats. Feral rats can be vectors for pests, parasites, and diseases, and feral rat infestations can lead to unsanitary living conditions. This has been well-researched. Iâd hold a pet rat, sure, but Iâd definitely avoid touching a feral rat, for my healthâs sake.
i agree...the only common part is..the smell..a very special smell..if only one rat is in the place i know it..
This. This is 100% accurate. Domesticated rats can be wonderful pets. Feral rats are living breathing disease factories that wonât hesitate to eat an incapacitated human. Do not mess with feral rats.
Handle feral rats to build up your immunity to new diseases đ đ
right? ever heard of a little thing called the Black Plague lmao
I had a pet rat named Gus Gus, he was a lover. Very clean, loved carrots, unfortunately he was a feeder rat so he didn't live long, but he lived his best life with me instead of being snake food.
I used to rescue rats and I had twenty at one point. 12 females and 8 males. I had the males in a double critter nation and the females in a triple stacked critter nation. It was a ton of work, once they started to pass away it was too hard for me. I couldn't do it anymore. Rats really are great pets, they are so smart and have so much personality. They really are like little dogs. They like to play and give you kisses. You can also teach them their own names and tricks. All of mine knew their names and would come when called.
Hiding the rat poison doesn't do anything, the employees just have to put the product back lol. đ

Honestly, the dedication and compassion this woman has is impressive and admirable
If I worked in a hardware store and the rat poison kept going missing, I would 150% think that someone was using it for murder and didn't want a paper trail.
You shouldn't leave small pets like rats or reptiles out of their cage while you sleep. One time I had this friend who slept with her bearded dragon. The ironic part was it was named pancake, but then got crushed to death....like a pancake
D:
As a rat breeder and rescuer, DO NOT LEAVE YOU PET RATS/SMALL ANIMALS UNSUPERVISED. Not only can they damage your walls, but they can get hurt. I can't stand rat owners who just think they can do whatever they want with their pet without doing the appropriate research or even use common sense. I have rescued so many rats from people like this and it breaks my heart how the animals turn out as a consequence. People, please, if you decide to get exotic pets such as rats (or even normal pets like dogs), do your bloody research extensively! Save up money, prepare to clean alot, feed them appropriate diets, and watch lots of videos and read lots of papers to make sure you aren't putting your animals in danger or making their lives miserable!!!!
@@lunaballuna I agree but gonna be honest. The only thing I donât agree with is leaving the rats out when sheâs not home.. have them out when she gets home but she seems to clean there enclosures, give them baths and even go the extra mile to bring them to the vet if they need help. The part where Blossom passed was sad because as someone who works at a vet office, you need to keep post surgery animals warm. There is a reason they wrap them in multiple blankets and have them on a heating mat as they cannot produce their own body heat when under anesthesia. Smaller animals also have a higher natural body heat than larger animals, so she likely could have passed due to her trying to warm her up in her hands and not in an incubation chamber or in front of a heater. Itâs kinda wild they just let mum take her home while she was still under, but I can see their reasoning as she doesnât seem like the type of person who could leave her sick animal for an extended period of time. It can be nerve wracking enough waiting for a dog to wake up. Let alone a rat with a mum who HAS to be right there but not know proper procedure for coming out of anesthesia. RIP Blossom.
Hey sheâs doing it right though. She actually takes care of her pets to where they go to a exotic vet and everything. Thatâs amazing. Ive known of plenty of dog and cat owners who donât even do that. So good for her.
Her: *"I hate rat poison companies so I buy tonnes of their product every week just to throw it out"*
Some rat poison company: *"oh no, that's so horrible. Please never stop"*
*"Wow we keep selling out at this one store, so we should keep selling it!"*
That logic is so completely backwards, I can't believe she wouldn't understand that buying these things and giving more money to the company only HELPS them make and sell more đ€ŠđŒââïž
Under capitalism, the best way to tell a company you don't like what they're doing (aside from actual activism) is to NOT purchase their products. And maybe try to convince others not to. But you definitely do not buy more of their products just to throw them away. That's not "showing them" - that's just giving them money!
@@doperagu8471 Not to mention, just throwing it away means that itâs going to end up in landfill somewhere... where there are likely plenty of rats who will nibble on it đ±
Her entire logic just reminds me of my grandma and her church friend's logic back in the 80s. "We're gonna buy all these rock band albums that are obviously Satanic just to burn them. That'll show them!" Like bruh đ
I think her thinking process was like: Buy more rat poison --> they run out of resources --> no more rat poison. Rat poison is very easy to make.

As someone who owns rats it made me so sad to see blossom pass đ one of my rats recently passed due to tumors as well and it was so hard
It's crazy to me how she already got to take Blossom home when she was clearly not back from anesthesia. Rats are incredibly sensitive and can pass away at any given point until everything is fully our of their system. There's always a chance you can recover rats with CPR and proper tools like a respirator balloon if you're in time. It almost shows a lack of care on the vet's side.

Unfortunately the lifespan is very short, 2-4 years max. Thatâs for a fancy rat like this lady has. You CAN tame wild rats, and they can live longer, but take more time as they are way smarter :)

I think people should admire her instead of looking so down upon her, she is emotionally strong for going through multiple rats and having to bond with them just to lose them so easily, it must be so hard.
Animals do feel emotions. They have more empathy than most people. They respond to the language theyâre around and can in fact respond to commands and can be trained.

I've been raising rats and breeding them on and off for like 15 years and I can't live without a rat in my life, like I have to see them everyday. Some are smart, some are dumb, some act like literal cartoons, they're so different with little personalities. When they're sleepy their bottom lip sticks out like the cutest freaking thing, and when they're super happy they grit their teeth and "boggle" their eyes which is the most hilarious thing and looks like a cartoon character bugging their eyes out. I had one beautiful ivory colored rex (curly haired) mama rat who had 13 babies, but they only have 12 nipples, so she divided them into two groups by their fur colors so she could nurse them in shifts and make sure not to miss any. Her litter was one of the healthiest I've ever seen, she was also super friendly and if a stranger came to our house, instead of being nervous she would run over to sit in their lap and say hello, and she held still and posed for photos.
How adorable! They really are quite intelligent

I used to have pet rats and mice as a kid I loved the rats because the mice where always scared and easy to die/loose but my sister and I used to take our pet rats everywhere and theyâd just sit on us and inside our jumper pockets, cutest things ever. Miss those rats
Okay but I can kind of relate to the nacho-rat thing at 6:08, my son smelled like canned ravioli when he was first born
Pewds: "Shouldn't they monitor them after surgery?"
Doc: "We give antibiotic just in case" *with a 'I DON'T CARE' hand gesture*
I mean he's right, even I was like, uhhhh....wtf!? They usually monitor animals after surgery, bc coming off that anesthesia is rough on any living animal, including humans. My pets have always been monitored for at least a day post operation.
@@GingerThereforeNoSoul ya~ they should, unless the vet already knew Blossom wouldn't make it
@@LockonStratos08 then that would have been mentioned...at least one would think it would have been...
I agree I thought it was a little strange, I'm a vet tech and at least at the clinic I work at we keep the pets for most of the day to monitor them after surgery.
We've literally had a mouse get surgery before and they kept her there for 24 hrs before going home. Anaesthetics can be risky for a dog or cat, let alone a small rodent.
1:06 honestly felix has a point with the whole "we've been trained to think rats are disgusting" . the bubonic plague really made rats feared, that fear was passed down through generations
Wrong species though, plague was carried the the black rat (rattus rattus). Domestic pet rats are the domestic variety of the brown rat (nattus norvegicus).
I dont know if its true, but ive been seeing where some scientists believe that it was actually majorly people spreading the plague, not rats. Seeing everything with Covid, i believe it lol
Rats ARE disgusting, they live in trash and spread diseases
@@MisterMunkki There is a difference between domesticated rats and wild rats, but sure man, whatever you say.
I'm sure I've read they don't have sphincter muscles to control bladder function, meaning they just pee as they go. Which is why i don't agree with having them run anywhere and everywhere, but especially on counter tops.
F for Blossom. That was sad. I've lost a few cats and dogs over the years. Some happened right infront of me(not my fault..kinda like the situation this lady was in smh) and it's always hard. You have them for years, So I know the feeling of losing a pet that you consider part of your family that you take care of.
I loved our pet rats. Theyâre like small dogs, so smart and clean. I canât take the loss tho, they have such short lifespans itâs so sad when they pass x

"she has 19 rats"
me, a rat breeder: *sweats*
I'd say the difference is you specifically breed them for people to buy. Im sure you have you're own little group that are yours, several females and males specifically for breeding and then the babies you sell. Im also sure your more than well equipped to take care of all of them
@@A.Mortem a lot of rats donât get bought though, rat keeping is more of a passion than financial investment
Honestly she seems to take great care of them and their space, tlc exaggerates everything so much. Theirs nothing wrong with her loving her animals, these rats are domestic and clean. They donât have diseases and that is a very common misconception.
Seems most people nowadays realize that rats (that aren't feral) aren't dirty by nature and that the only reason feral rats are still unpleasant to have around is because they carry ticks and other parasites but that's really with any feral animal.
Thankfully more and more people are being made aware of the myths surrounding rats and they're treated better in general, they really did have such a bad rep for so many years which is sad because they're really chill pets to have around. (if you don't mind the droppings Lol)
This lady in the video is just insane (not judging, just an observation) and needs to see a counselor, her problem isn't the rats, her problem is her escapism is literally ruining her life.
It's also not a healthy environment for her kid, it's clear he loves his mom but I'm afraid he's going to learn some bad habits from her if she doesn't get some help, and it's clearly causing tension between him and both of his parents.
@JJ apparently you missed the part where I specified "...rats (that aren't feral)..." because otherwise your comment makes no sense.
Next time try actually reading someone's comment in its entirety instead of skimming it before attempting a rebuttal.
@JJ were you trying to imply that I blame feral animals for being dirty or something?
That wouldn't make any sense either, it's common knowledge that feral animals carry pests and sometimes diseases depending on the animal and their environment, it's just a fact of life.
@JJ they didn't even talk about rats being bad tho . You're the one making dumb comments without understanding the context .
I hate how people think certain animals donât deserve lives. Like How they were shocked gold fishes have surgery too. They have a will to live and long memories and emotions and thoughts just like humans. All Bc they are smaller and donât have voices doesnât mean these animals arenât just as precious lives as humans

Imagine a vegan person supporting the meat industry by buying meat and throwing it so others won't buy it. The logic lmao.
Yes the shop getÂŽs the money anyway so she is supporting him still.
And wouldn't the stock compensate each month for how much rat poison is sold? So if she buys consistently just to throw them out, the company would send more rat poison to restock
@@DianaIsaBeek In fact, if they think demand is going up from people buying all this rat poison, they'll send more
Thatâs a huge risk to have her present for the surgery. If things started to go wrong she wouldâve freaked out and gotten in the way and made a scene, while the vet would just be trying to take care of the animal. Kind of a gamble.
Iâm a vet tech and depending on where you live if the owner requests to be present during surgery you are forced to let them due to laws. Itâs never fun dealing with owners in the surgery room it creates a better chance for germs to spread they often times faint, get sick, or like you mentioned freak out. Unfortunately we donât have a say.

Actually Felix, cats can understand about 25-35 human words, so your Grandma wasn't necessarily fooling you! also cats rarely meow at other cats (only mothers and their babies, adult cats never meow at each other) cats only meow to communicate with humans! :)
Yes! I actually read somewhere that the reason cats meow to us was to get our attention. Because when they're kittens, they meow to get their mother's attention, so it makes sense they meow when they want ours, because we're kinda their parents
I have full-on arguments with my cat and he matches meows to the aggression in my voice whenever we argue. It's kind of hilarious and I love it. We really just argue over wet food and who gets to sit in the armchair.
Yes! I agree! :)

i know itâs jokes and all, but when blossom passed away and the woman just looked at her rigid, unmoving body and started crying i cried really hard as well. i know exactly how she felt in that moment because iâve had to go through the same process with my gerbils. it may seem silly because theyâre âjust rodentsâ, but it is so hard to describe the absolute pain and sadness and grief i felt when i realized that they were gone. they were my little babies, and iâm sure she felt the same way about her rats. i feel so bad for her and hope sheâs doing alright.
my old neighbor had two pet rats, total sweethearts. they were very clean, toilet trained and they would just do tricks or chill in her hood or flower pots

I had a pet rat named Cora and she lived 4-5 years after I bought her from the pet store in Marietta Ohio. She was the only female medium sized rat there and there were no large rats at the time so I got her instead and I'm glad I did. Now she's buried underneath a beautiful in the back yard where I currently live now. I miss her all the time and she was pretty spoiled.
Also, She was a type of albino rat so she was blind. Which is commonly referred to and know as a lab rat. Cora was also the only acception when it came to rats as she was the only one I loved and was not afraid of.
When I was a kid, I had a pet rat who hated everyone but me. Would consistently bite my dad, but never me. She also would escape from her cage every night and then return by morning. How did we find out? Besides rat poop in weird places (lol), I once woke up to her standing on my chest, watching me sleep. It was actually really sweet. I think I thought I was dreaming and just fell back asleep.
Thatâs cool
I used to have a couple rats who id let roam anytime I was at home with them. They would follow me everywhere, sleep all cuddled up with me, eat with me, jump in the shower with me even. They're like little mini dogs, it's sad that they're so misunderstood. They're actually very clean, extremely intelligent, complex, social little creatures. They can be trained to do anything really, including sniffing out drugs, explosives, disease and cancers.
Also they don't typically bite unless they have some kind of issue, like pain that is exacerbated by not so gentle handling, or they had been mistreated, perhaps prior to you getting them? I just wanted to mention this incase any morons read your comment and go "see?! They bite, so dangerous!" Or something equally stupid(they're no more dangerous than a cat or a dog or even your neighbors child, their reputation is unearned and the result of misinformation).
And yep, I've owned many rats over the years and only a couple(the boys usually lol) never figured out how to get out of their cage!
@@ovvierazones I totally agree! I hate how misunderstood they are! And yeah I think that one was just a grumpy girl who didn't like being handled lol.
I am so glad I grew up with rats tho! Thanks to my dad â€
Yes they help me in cooking too
that is so cute awh
My problem with rats as pets is how short their lives are. They only live about three years and it would just be too upsetting
@JJ time doesn't matter. A friend is a friend
@JJ how can you compare pain like that? So if one of your dogs died after 3 years it would be less painfull than if another one of your dogs died after 10? What about all those years between 3 and 10 that you never got to experience? That is also a loss
@JJ I'm sorry for your loss, I totally understand the seeing their "ghosts" part. Please understand, though, others can and do form bonds deeply as yours with their pets regardless of the time. My 17 year old cat passed a year ago, I've had him since I was a kid. Before that, a cat who was only 6. Recently, I had two mice pass away. Of course the loss of my oldest cat was crushing, he was my childhood friend after all. But I've grieved those 4 losses all the same, and I miss them all. I wouldn't dare compare them.
@JJ wierd flex but ok.
@JJ đ€
I own 13 rats currently, used to be 15 but in the past two months two died from cancer (they were old pet store rats) I feel this lady on a personal level, and honestly love knowing she actually takes care of them rather then leaving them alone constantly and not taking care of their medical care.. rats are so social, but, they also get sick very easy, itâs the reason why scientists use them for tests so often! The chemicals are going to effect them more then a human!
Felix is not the only one who sniffs his dog, everyone in my family does but thatâs only when our dogs are clean. I do it when I give my dog kisses and she lets me. I own 2 Labradors ones chocolate and the other is a yellow. I love my babies so muchâ€ïžâ€ïž

I'm a huge hamster person and although I'd never own more than one at a time, I understand how heartbreaking it can be to loose one. A lot of people don't understand that rodents have their own unique personalities and how they know and love their caretakers...
When you get to know them, you can see how they recognize you and how they can get excited by being pet or held or even when they hear your voice.
Needless to say, Blossom's passing made me cry too :-:
Everyone knows this, why do you think people say "aw rats" when something bad happens? So sad
I cried super hard when my rat died, I only had 2 because they like to be social but it was still really sad for me - I canât imagine getting this extreme with so many pets but rats are extremely smart and can be trained, and theyâre super cute in my opinion but after mine died I cared for the other til she passed too and I donât think Iâd get rats again just simply because of how short their life span is. I feel for her and I understand itâs sad but itâs bound to happen and itâs probably gonna hurt each time unfortunately. (Iâm also really sorry for your loss)
its so sad that people usually dont pay attention to rodents :( people think theyre unhygienic and that theyre not capable of having a personality
If you ever get Guinea pigs, get them in pairs.
Them being alone is so detrimental to their health, that it's illegal to own only one Guinea pig in some countries.
@@andregon4366 I used to own guinea pigs! I loved them to death T-T and no worries, I got two sisters ^^ I'm a rodent person, and I'd never get one (or any pet for that matter) without doing extensive research on them first. If only more people understood how important that was....
Aw I love that you started off with good vibes for the pet rats, thereâs ALOT of people who think theyâre just disgusting and say very mean things to people who have them đ
I too smell my dogs, & rats. Rats have always been my favorite pet. I've had rats since I was a baby. Also, you can train them to do tricks, & you can let them roam around out of their cage. Rats are very, very smart, and trainable like dogs. My rats always just stayed on my shoulder, or they would just follow me around the house. Pet rats are also very clean, & you have to keep their cages clean or they get depressed. Rats should be kept in pairs or in groups, or being alone will also make them depressed.
